Last moonlight swim

Most amazing full moon swim last night!
And
THIS video making me laugh...
The colors here are amazing!
Hard to believe this is even real!
Off to the Bahamas for some well needed sun!

I had
Jessica over for lunch and took a stab at socca again...
This time I used the baking method because we have those crappy electric burners and it worked great!
I think the best rule of thumb is to know your first one will never turn out, something happens to the pan after the first one and then it's smooth sailing-
-1 cup chickpea flour
-1 cup luke warm water
-2 glugs good olive oil
-Sea salt to taste
-Lots of cracked black pepper
-Toasted cumin
Let dough sit for two hours (prob not necessary, but it worked well here)
Rub cast iron with a little butter or drizzle of olive oil, pour some dough in and let bake on 'broil' until golden.
Top with flakey sea salt and whatever topping you like. I made wilted onions in white wine. Oh and a good herb salad with vinegary dressing is a must.
So tasty!

My mom sent some hot peppers from my dad's chili garden, so I dried them and made some harissa...
It's so delicious I want to slather it on everything I eat! So easy too-
-Soak dried chilies in water until tender (you can de-seed if you don't want it to be as spicy, but I like it)
-Toast an assortment of North African spices (I used cumin, coriander, and fennel) in a dry pan until fragrant
-Add chilies, a few cloves garlic, toasted spices, a pinch of salt, and juice of one meyer lemon to a food processor
-Puree until smooth adding either more lemon juice or remaining water from soaked chilies as needed
-Scoop into a sterilized jar and top with a tiny bit of olive oil to preserve
I love reading about people's makeup routines on
INTO THE GLOSS...
One of my favorite tips (sadly I forgot which interview it was from) was to do your makeup in natural light. Since our bathroom is pretty dark- as in I have to turn a light on, I brought all my makeup out to the front room on a little tray and sit in front of a mirror to do it.

Most
delicious meatball spinach soup adapted from Canal House, so fast and tasty...
-simmer veggie broth and drop meatballs in
-let float to rop and cook for 1 minute
-toss in spinach right before you're about to serve
-finish with lemon and pepper
For meatballs, knead pork (you can subsitute 1/2 veal but our butcher was out) a huge handful of parmesan, generous amount of garlic, sea salt, and a farm egg together and form into tiny balls and boil in broth. You can strain broth to remove meatball particles so it's clearer, but I didn't mind.

Just rediscovered my love for weaving thanks to
Caitlin!
Beans for the week.
I like to make a big pot of something to use for my lunches throughout the week on Sunday.
Beans, lentils, and barley are my favorite.
Just throw a halfed onion, a jalapeno, some garlic, a bay leaf, and sea salt in and BAM you have half your lunch for a week!

Check it out! I'm in this month's issue of Martha!

Duh moment.
I'm used to avocado toasts, but Canal House opened my eyes to avocado on a sticky corn tortilla with falky salt, dash of cayenne and a squeeze of lime... DUH!!!

After watching Molly's furoshiki video, I wrapped my lunch up for work like this ;)
Canal House, where have you been all my life?
My friends Margaret and Lily just turned me on to the Canal House cookbooks and I instantly fell in love.
This cleansing beef broth is just what I've been craving this month.
So easy too- and amazing to drink for breakfast.
It kind of has a subtle vanilla flavor...
Put 3 lbs beef short ribs, a halfed onion, a clove garlic, sea salt, and a handful of pitted prunes in a pot to simmer for four hours. I added the celery because I had a few stocks in the fridge that were about to go off. Strain, put in bowls that you can drink from. We also ate it for dinner with some hedgehog mushrooms.
