From Sojourn Chronicles - The ?Fill in the States Map? Part 1 tour is over, and I want to share some information about the motorcycle and riding gear. It?s always good to look back, and pay attention to how effective was the planning. The Motorcycle Just after starting out on this trip, the 2008 Suzuki V-Strom DL650 rolled past […]

From Bikes in the Fast Lane - #Russia #Putin - Recently the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, met with his biker buddy, the Night Wolves motorcycle club president, Aleksandr Zaldostanov, to award him a medal or two. Putin had already been on a ride-out or two with the biker gang, although he did ride a three wheeler, he seemed to enjoy himself with this group of tough speaking, leather clad, bearded uber-macho men. It fit his image and style. Zaldostanov invited him to come to another gathering held in Stalingrad, where they would have a motorcycle show planned
From Bikes in the Fast Lane - #EricBuell #Hybrid #Motorcycle - A lot has been written recently about Erik Buell's new sports motorcycle. Several teasers, hints here and there, but so far no details have been published. But a quick look at recently filed patents will show that Erik Buell filed a patent for a hybrid motorcycle (and scooter). Maybe it's nothing, but the patent was filed January 2012. You will see that the patent calls for an electric motor producing in excess of 200 horsepower, possibly even 400 hp! Engine displacement can be anything from 100 to
From Sideblog - If you're thinking of buying a bike or expensive bike parts online, read this. Sideburn reader John from London, learnt the hard way. To be clear - this is NOTHING to do with Ron Wood Racing. My name is John: For some time I have been dreaming of building a street tracker and it was at DirtQuake 2 that I decided now was the time to start. On taking advice I decided on a Wood Rotax chassis of which there are about 500 in the world. I placed a 'Wanted' ad
From Bikes in the Fast Lane - #Cooling #Scooter #Funny - You think this works? Funny though... ...
From Redleg's Rides - Craig H, a fellow Uralista who drives a 2007 URAL Arctic Patrol rig and I met up at his house around 8:30 this morning and we headed out towards the Deckers, CO area to check out possible sites for the upcoming Shoot and Scoot Event. This event is open to all riders but will consist mainly of URAL riders, their rigs and assorted monkeys. The area we were looking at is inside National Forest lands so as long as you follow the rules and are safe, it's OK to shoot

From Sojourn Chronicles - Day 6, August 10 A decent night?s rest and drying out is what I needed most before the final push home. And, it was to be a short one, only 275 miles?about a five hour ride. Checked out of the motel. Gassed up and headed north on I-75. Of course this tour would not be […]
From Sideblog - This was the only accident of the whole day. It was just topple during the coffee break when the sidestand pressed through the flapjack tarmac. The only damage was some earth deposit on the sidestand which didn't exactly warrant calling out the AA.Dave on his newly acquired CB175Max winner of 'Best Jacket' wearing Dave Aldana's old leathers from when he was a teenager. Proper coffee in the middle of nowhere, served from the back of Motore's Piaggio Ape - How fantastic! And the next day on the way home, I stopped
From Sideblog - As each bike rolled in it seemed an even more 'inappropriate' a match for the others already lined up in the bus lane. And like with the routes people had taken to ride to Sheffield, the sources of the tip-off that there was a ride-out and a Sideburn party in the evening were pretty random too. From "Instagram" to "I work in the tattoo shop around the corner" and "I heard a raucous VROooM-Vroom". Good to see some Dirt Quake II survivors there too.By the time John Lawson turned up
From On Two Wheels - Phone manufacturers have come up with these marvelous new ?smart? devices that do everything from checking your email while on the road (like anything is EVER that important), to allow you to listen to tunes or the radio, or sometimes even actually phone someone and talk person to person. But the one thing they haven?t been able to do is create a battery that will last a full day of texting, chatting, emailing, picture taking, and GPS?ing. And a cell phone with a dead battery is just excess baggage.
From Redleg's Rides - This morning, Martha and I headed out to Westminsters, one of the cities which comprise part of the Denver Metro Area. We met her cousin Craig and his wife Monique along with their two sons Tyler and Matthew. Tyler was being settled into CU Boulder to start work on a law degree.Breakfast was enjoyable as the cousins caught up and exchanged news and happenings. After breakfast, they were off to pack as some were going to their new lodging, some were flying back to Virginia where Martha's cousin lives and plays/serves

From Scooter in the Sticks - On the way to work a couple weeks ago... Crossed paths with two riders from Canada-- John and Doug. Had a nice chat about riding, their trip and the Can-am Spyder Touring machine. Definitely an interesting ride. John refers to it as "an open-air sportscar". After sitting on it a bit I could see his point. His third Can-am I seem to remember and he's loving them. For those times he needs the motorcycle experience there's a Suzuki VStrom in the stable. Both rode down from Ontario and where making a big
From Sideblog - Experiments in Speed from SpindleProductions on Vimeo.I met Tom from Donhou Cycles at the Bike Shed Event earlier this year. From Bikes in the Fast Lane - #Bajaj #Commercial #India #Romantic - This TV commercial from Bajaj is old, but still very good (as are most of their advertisements). It is the story of a young man, riding around the country on his Bajaj Caliber motorcycle looking for his long lost sweetheart. All he has is an old photograph of her, and he is looking for her while bearing a gift. And finally, after looking over the whole country, he does meet her, but it does not go as planned. So far, Bajaj have rarely disappointed me
