The 5 Biggest Hollywood Villains 5 Nov 2011 6:18 AM (13 years ago)

Hollywood has brought us some gruesomely evil villains throughout time. Everyone has their favorite for different reasons, but some are well known by everyone.

Norman Bates (Psycho)

Norman Bates
Norman Bates was a totally psychotic creeper. Tony Perkins portrayal of Momma's boy in "Psycho" was enough to make anyone think twice before staying at a little Mom and Pop hotel in the middle of nowhere. Of course it also had many people thinking twice before going into the shower. Just the thought of him keeping his dead Mother sitting in his house was enough to make your skin crawl.

Annie Wilkes (Misery)

Annie Wilkes
Annie Wilkes was absolutely bonkers. Kathy Bates excellent performance of her in "Misery" brought your fears of being kidnapped to a whole new level. She was "oogy" to the max. She made the number one fan mean something entirely different and turned your average stalker into a heartless control freak. When she finds out Paul has left his room and snooped around, she goes completely off her rocker and makes you wish he could just GET OUT.

Max Cady (Cape Fear)

Max Cady
Robert DeNiro was super creepy in "Cape Fear". As Max Cady, DeNiro plays an ex-con who is bent on getting revenge on the public defender who originally had him put away. He not only stalks the public defender, but his whole family. When he starts to befriend the teenage daughter, he crosses the line. He is just downright slimy and has no morals whatsoever. He intends on making his life a total hell, as he made Cady's in the past. You will wish for his demise throughout the movie.

Michael Myers (Halloween Series)

Michael Myers
Michael Myers known for the "Halloween" movies, is extremely popular. The music score from the movie alone is enough to make the hair on your neck stand on end. But to see that pale face staring you down is definitely scary. From the slow ominous walk he uses when after his victims, to the slightly sadistic tip of the head when staring them down, he is definitely someone you don't want to meet in a dark alley. After killing his older sister when he was six, Michael just got worse. He is the ultimate Boogeyman, and scares you again and again by never being able to be killed. When you have reached the edge of your seat and decide it is okay to relax and sit back, he will only pop up and scare you all over again. Remember - you can't kill the boogeyman.

Lord Voldemort (Harry Potter)

Lord Voldemort
The most recent villain to take over Hollywood is Lord Voldemort from the "Harry Potter" series of films. Having been the one who tried to kill Harry as a baby, resulting of course in the famous scar, Voldemort (or he who must not be named for the timid), continues to try and finish the job he started many years ago. Like the boogeyman, he also cannot seem to be killed. He is determined to end the life of "The Boy Who Lived" and find peace forever. Ralph Fiennes brought Voldemort to "death" most excellently.

Christmas Shopping Tips for Busy People 5 Nov 2011 6:10 AM (13 years ago)

Christmas 2011 gifts
Christmas is just around the corner, and for many people, thinking about Christmas shopping can be very daunting. This is especially true for busy people because time for them is invaluable. Most often, for them, Christmas shopping is done on the very last minute.

Well, this does not have to be anymore. There is a way around last minute Christmas shopping. How? It’s simple: start today because today is the best time to prepare for the most awaited season of the year. Always remember that more than the merrymaking and the get-togethers, gift-giving and receiving is also one of the most awaited events during Christmas.
In order to ensure that everyone gets the best Christmas gift, planning ahead of time what gifts to give and where to buy them is very essential. Thus, here are some Christmas Shopping tips or suggestions which, when followed, are guaranteed to make your Christmas not only enjoyable and meaningful, but very rewarding as well.

Tip #1 Plan Ahead of Time
Remember what one author said about planning? Covey said:”If you fail to plan, you plan to fail”. This is true, and this is applicable even with your Christmas Shopping preparations. So plan ahead, and plan well. What should you plan about?

Who Will Receive Gifts from You? Long before the Christmas season begins (some are even suggesting that this should be done right after the Christmas tree is taken down), it is best to make a list of the people you intend to give gifts on Christmas. To some people, this is a good idea because the list lessens the chances of forgetting someone.

Christmas 2011 gifts
What Gifts to Give. When you have a list, it will also be easier to plan the kind of gifts to give. As you write down the names of the people you love, including your family, friends, even your associates and maybe some neighbors too, you can already begin making notes as to what gifts you would like to give each of them. You can have columns in your list and immediately after the names you can write gift suggestions that you think they will love and appreciate.

Tip #2 Make a Christmas Shopping List
This is again essential: make a Christmas shopping list. The act of writing down what you plan to buy will already allow you to plan which stores to visit and when. It is a fact that not all stores carry the things we want to buy, and so shopping means going from store to store. When you have a Christmas shopping list, you will be able to organize your schedule, for example, on which store to visit first. There are also other things that need to be considered, such as knowing and planning the best time to visit a particular store. This is because there are stores that open early and there are stores that open late; there are also stores that are known to be filled to the brim with shoppers at a particular time. When you have a shopping list and a shopping plan, you will be able to schedule the best time to visit a particular store to avoid the mad rush of shoppers or the traffic in that particular shopping district. When you are able to do this, you not only save valuable money, you also save time.

Top Buying Tips – C5 Envelopes 27 Oct 2011 9:05 AM (13 years ago)

White C-5 Envelope
Envelopes have been used for mailing documents, letters, money and other such things since a very long time. They come in all styles, colours and sizes, and can be used for a lot of purposes including various personal and business matters.

Since they come in a variety of looks and functionality, there may come a time when one would not know which one would be the right type to get. Here are a few things to consider for choosing the best kind of envelope to buy:

Size and Purpose:
Envelopes usually come in C4, C5, C6 and DL sizes. These can be used for any purpose, but it's best to know which sizes to choose, depending on the document or the item that you're going to send.
  • C4 Envelope – 12 ¾ x 9 inches. A C4envelope can hold an unfolded A4 sized paper and are commonly used for sending brochures, catalogues and documents that must not be folded.
  • C5 Envelope – 9 x 6 3/8inches. A c5envelope can hold an A4 sized paper folded once in the middle. They are the used for sending letters or other documents.
  • C6 Envelope – 4 ½ x 6 3/8 inches. A C6envelope can hold an A4 sized paper folded in half twice, and is used for carrying letters or small cards.
  • DL Envelope – 4 1/3x 8 2/3 inches. These are the most common types used for letters. They can hold an A4 sized paper folded twice, usually into three parts.
One can also choose from a variety of c5envelopes, as well as the other sizes, depending on the purpose of the letter or the document to be sent out. There are many different types of c5envelopes to choose from: those for general or everyday uses, those used for direct mailing, plain white ones for business letters, and vibrantly coloured ones for personal mail, those used for packaging and even printed or custom-made ones for other purposes. One can also buy a recycled envelope for eco-friendly usage.

Price and Budget:
One also has to carefully consider the price of an envelope and his budget before making a purchase. Consider how many you're going to need and be sure to get the right kinds and sizes for the documents you're going to send out. You won't want to waste money by ordering a wrong-sized envelope, so double check every detail before placing an order, especially if you plan to order them by bulk.

Convenience:
A C5envelope, like all others, come in different styles, thickness, colours and so on. One needs to choose which one would be the most convenient to use, so as to save more time and effort when sending the letters, cards or other documents. An envelope with peel and seal flaps or those with self-sealing flaps are much easier to use than those with gummed flaps-which need to be moistened in order to be sealed.
An envelope with a window is also more convenient for people who don't want or don't have the time to write out the recipient's contact information. Details such as these would help you a lot in choosing the right kind of envelope for every mailing purpose.

5 Things You Didn't Know About Christmas 26 Oct 2011 8:43 AM (13 years ago)

Christmas gifts

Ah, Christmas! That time of year when the TV is plagued with festive reruns, you eat way more than you should, end up with a pile of knitted jumpers, t shirts and socks that you will probably never, ever wear and everyone thinks it’s perfectly acceptable to wear paper hats at the dinner table. I absolutely LOVE it!

I’m already starting to feel a little festive despite the fact we’re not even in November yet and in recognition of the fact that the big day is creeping closer, we take a look at a few things you might not have known about our favourite time of year - Christmas!
The First US State to Acknowledge Christmas as a Holiday
Alabama became the first state in the USA to make Christmas a legal holiday. This happened in 1836 and paved the way for other states to follow suit and spread a little festive joy around the USA.

The Last State?
Not all the states were as quick as Alabama though and it was over 70 years later before the last State to do so declared Christmas a legal holiday. Any guesses as to which state this was? Well, it was Oklahoma in 1907.

Christmas Stockings
Christmas StockingsThe common tale told about the symbolism behind the Christmas Stocking is that Saint Nicholas was concerned about the well-being of 3 sisters. They were poverty stricken and he was determined to save them from a potential life of prostitution. As such, he dropped three pieces of gold down the smoke hole of their house one night. Legend has it that the gold landed in stockings that were hanging on the heath. This is where the symbolism of the Christmas stocking comes from.

Christmas Cards
The Christmas Card is a beloved Christmas tradition. But you might not have known that the humble Christmas card was invented by Sir Henry Cole in 1843.

Merry Christmas – the Lingo
And just in case you’ve ever wondered how to say ‘Merry Christmas’ in multiple languages, here you go. ‘Merry Christmas’ in a few of the many world languages!
  • French – Joyeux Noel
  • German - Fröhliche Weihnachten
  • Spanish - Feliz Navidad
  • Finnish - Hyvaa joulua
  • Greek - Kala Christouyenna
  • Hawaiian - Mele Kalikimaka
And there you have it! 5 things you might not have known about Christmas before you read this! Why not add a few of your own little Christmas facts in the comments below?

Internet TV: Innovative Use of Technology for Entertainment 15 Oct 2011 11:20 PM (13 years ago)

Internet TV is one of the foremost innovations in modern age. In fact, Internet TV has set the tone for future television revolutions that is hugely favorable to viewers. When cable transmission was introduced decades ago, it gained massive popularity with television viewers, who were fed up with limited air broadcasting. However, in the era of globalization and fast technological changes, this old favorite is losing ground quickly. New features are knocking on the door and television viewers across the world are looking for more convenience, better experience, and uninterrupted entertainment. While conventional television transmission is bound by limits, Internet TV is poised to fulfill all these aspiration of viewers.

For viewers looking for ultimate TV experience, this innovative platform has a lot more to offer. It makes available all television channels across the world. Regardless of your location, you can watch news, movies, music, and sports video streaming on your laptop, thanks to the convergence of Internet and broadcasting technologies. Internet TV offers better images and sound, low cost, interactive features, and a lot more that viewers fail to experience while watching programs on their regular TV.

Internet TV operates on protocols and websites offering interactive pages with embedded videos. It is simply an act of audio and video delivery on your computer or laptop through your Internet connection. You computer or laptop doubles up as a TV set, courtesy satellite software. It does not matter whether a viewer is a computer expert. You can just connect your PC to the Internet, install the software, and watch thousands of live or recorded videos online.

Many viewers watch TV online because it is free. But it is the improvement in Internet-based technologies over the years that has become an attraction for viewers. While the speed of the broadband has gone up with increased bandwidth, the cost has drastically come down. Uses of flash for streaming of videos, net booster software, and powerful routers have neutralized the impact of low bandwidth and congestion. The quality of TV software has also improved to ensure that viewers enjoy all the excitement of watching programs on Internet TV.

As the Internet is the key to watching TV online, service providers have come up with the best possible technology and devices to help you enjoy mobile television. You can buy USB dongles and WiFi cards and watch TV programs on your laptop while traveling or vacationing at a distant place. With Internet TV available everywhere using such technology, the geographical or transmission constraints on watching your favorite TV channels are no more there to bother you.

The convenience and quality of entertainment offered by Internet TV has taken off the shine from regular TV. While watching TV online, viewers can enjoy greater access, wider choice, and personalized experience. Viewers can watch TV online in a time-controlled fashion and on self-devised schedules by paying only once to buy software and there are no monthly subscription fees. Newer services, including video on demand, personal video recording, and facilities to cut down commercials, make viewers in charge of their choice of shows.

How to Boost your Business with Facebook Fan Page? 11 Oct 2011 7:41 AM (13 years ago)

If you have a Facebook account and you are also a blogger and you spend most of time on affiliate marketing than I have got an idea for you to get the most out of your Facebook account and affiliate marketing campaign with the help of your blog. With more than 750 million active users Facebook is the world’s largest social media network but still most of the people just use it for interacting with their friends, sharing videos, uploading photos and commenting. But as a matter of fact Facebook can be used for some other things as will like generating instant traffic – massive instant traffic! Yes it’s true.

There was a time when we only have to rely on Google to generate traffic and run our marketing campaigns but the online marketing process has changed completely. One reason is that Google’s banner advertising rates are much expensive as compared to Facebook and secondly in Facebook we can target customers more narrowly by sex, interest, zip codes, city, and country etc. earlier there were FREE sites available where you would place your banner and receive some traffic but now things have changed and its quite competitive now. In order to promote your product, it’s not just paying the money … but you also have to prepare strategies for your banner advertisement campaigns. Google Adwords are too expensive and sometimes you have to pay $5-10 for a single click.

But most of the people are always searching for Free advertisements and they don’t want to pay for their advertisement campaigns. So I have got a strategy for you. All you need to do is to create a Facebook business fan page for your product or blog whatever you are promoting and start sharing it with you friends. The best way is to create an attractive email and send it to all your friends and social networks contacts to like your page. The more likes on your page means, the more traffic. You don’t have to pay higher banner advertising rates or subscribe for monthly packages. All you need is to have a Facebook account and create a fan page and start promoting it. It’s a free advice, so create a fan page today and increase your profit.

Increase Your Traffic and Sales by Running a Banner Ads Campaign 4 Oct 2011 6:59 AM (13 years ago)

Increase Sales with Banner Advertising
I know most of you have heard about banner advertising but you might not be aware that there are various types of banner advertisements. Online advertisement, blogs ads, web banners, flash banners etc. The purpose is the same to generate traffic and sales. It’s like I am selling an expensive medical product but customers are not coming to my website, they are going to a general store so what I will do is that I will place my product in their general store because they have got a lot of customers and when they sell that product, I will give them a 20-30% commission. Today on internet, the same game is going. There are popular websites with millions of traffic and there are also other websites who have got some excellent products but they don’t have enough visitors, so what they do is that they place their banner on the popular website. It’s also known as affiliate marketing. The banner advertising rates are defined accordingly and they are available on monthly basis.

There are several types of banner ads available like pay per click, pay per impression or pay per sale. Well in my opinion the best one is to select pay per impression because it’s the cheapest and all it needs is a creative and attractive banner design. An impression is when someone visits a website and sees your banner. So if you design your banner attractively than he will definitely click on it and visit your website. Our of all the banner advertising rates available, pay per impression is the cheapest.

Another advantage of displaying banner ads is that you can get targeted traffic. For example let’s suppose you are using Facebook banner ads campaign than you can easily select target audience by entering zip codes for specific region. You can also select audience by age, sex, country, interests, hobbies etc. So your ad will appear only in front of those who are interested in your product. There are countless advantages of banners ads and generating traffic is the most important goal to achieve via ads campaign.

5 Of The Worlds Must See Ancient Wonders 29 Sep 2011 10:49 PM (13 years ago)

Great Barrier Reef
If you love to travel, and if you even spend most of days at home day dreaming about seeing the wonderful sights this world has to offer, this article is for you. Here are my pick for the top 5 must visit locations in the world. Enjoy!

Uluru Sun Set Australia
Uluru
You may know it as Ayers Rock, it is an ancient and sacred landmark in the Australian outback, made from sandstone and standing 350 meters above the otherwise flat desert it is a sight that cannot truly be described, and even photos fail to do it justice. The best thing about Uluru is that it appears to actually change color throughout the day, even glowing red in the sunset.

Machu Picchu
Machu Picchu
This ancient Incan temple is built on top of a mountain with stunning views of the Urumbamba valley. The location itself is equally as stunning as the temple that rests atop it and it hard to really know which of the two you are going to see. It’s not easy to get to, but over 400 tourists every day make it there to explore the ruins and perhaps hike up the worlds famous Inca trails.

Victoria Falls
Victoria Falls
Most people think of Africa as being flat and covered in desert, but there are also some areas of stunning mountains and lush green forests. Victoria falls cuts its way through such a stunning landscape. Taking a helicopter flight over the falls is highly recommended if you have the means, as this gives you an unparalleled view of the falls from above. Alternatively, if you visit between September and December you might like to have a go in the Devils pool at the edge of the falls.

Matterhorn
Matterhorn
The Matterhorn in Switzerland is not the highest peak in the world but it might just be one of the most distinctive. It has 4 faces all very steep and it rises to a sharp pinnacle. From the town of Zermatt it makes a wonderfully formidable view and is sure to inspire.
Great Barrier Reef
Great Barrier Reef
You already know what this is don’t you? The great barrier reef is certainly the most famous landmark on this list, and possibly the most beautiful . It is the largest single structure in existence which was created of living organisms and holds host to a dizzying number of varied marine creatures. This is a top location for scuba divers especially.

Not sure about the helicopter suggestion? why not try having a flying experience at home to get a taste before venturing out to africa and the victoria falls. Click here for more info about helicopter experiences and other fun things.

Reach More Than 750 Million Target Based People with Facebook Ads 26 Sep 2011 9:15 AM (13 years ago)

Facebook Ads
Facebook claims that there ads are more accurate, target specific and they can reach the customers you are looking for. The best thing about Facebook ads is that we can target people by age, location, ethnicity, interests etc. while in Google we don’t know about the people we are targeting. They may be a 6 years old kid. In Facebook, we have to use a banner ad which will be composed of text and image (thumbnail). The banner advertising rates for these ads campaigns are quite reasonable and the best thing is that we can promote a website, a blog or a Facebook fan page. Promoting a Facebook fan page will increase the number of likes which will definitely increase the traffic.
Facebook offers two campaigns CPC (Cost Per Click) and CPM (Cost Per Impression). So you only have to pay if someone clicks your ad or see your ad. The rates of CPM are lower as compared to the CPC. Well banner advertising rates of Google and other networks have the same rule, higher rate for clicks and lower for impressions.

Facebook Ads
As we know that Facebook is a very reliable social network and people consider it as an important part of their lives so advertisers will connect with real people. Setting-up an Ad in Facebook is as simple as signing up for an account. If we take example of Google Ads, we have to take tutorials in order to understand how to create ads on Google and believe me creating ads on Google is a tough job.  Some people hire professionals for this job, while in Facebook, it has been made so easy that even a beginner can create an Ad within 5 minutes.

Facebook Ads marketing is very cost-effective and affordable as compared to other banner advertising campaigns. It let you target your customers by zip codes which make your sale more specific. For example for a local advertiser in USA, it’s quite helpful He can target local customers around by entering their zip codes.
To start promoting your website, visit http://www.facebook.com/advertising/ and click Create an Ad.

Subscribe To Facebook 26 Sep 2011 5:15 AM (13 years ago)

Facebook Subscribe Button
Facebook is making yet another attempt to remain as the kingpin of social media by jumping on the following band wagon. Not only has Google used this feature but now Facebook has started using the follow feature in an attempt to keep up with Google +.

Subscribe practically the same as Twitter with a very similar functionality; this is something famous Facebook users have been requesting for some time, as there is a maximum of 5000 friends. However, Facebook pages have an unlimited amount of friends (likes) which in essence are followers, but this idea has been shifted from pages to profiles.

The release of this feature should be of no surprise to anyone, it has not been Facebooks’ first attempt to combat Google +. The video chat feature was a retaliation to Hangouts, and the privacy settings update was, with no doubt a way to, one up Google.

With the release of the subscribe button, Facebook users can now adjust their news feed, they can filter a Facebook Users’ posts to their importance or even completely block them. This will make the timeline of Facebook much more compact and useful to those who use it.

What Does This Mean For Businesses
This could either make or break business pages, the importance of providing important, relevant and useful information is rising, and unless you are helping your fans, then your fan base will turn out to be useless as none of them are interested in what you are saying.

Before the feature was released, it was hard to manage your news feed and as a result of that it was hard to control statuses, not only for fans, but also for pages. As the struggle to rank high in Facebooks’ news feed was extremely difficult and relied heavily on fans, whereas now, fans have an even bigger control and pages must be aware of it.

Useful content is something pages has, and if they have not they should have, strived for, but now it seems to be a necessity and unless your actually making the most of all of your fans, then you could easily lose them and the number displayed at the bottom of your page could turn out to be useless.

All of these features are very new and as a result of that the theories will also be very primitive, however what is strongly suggested is to engage your audience and become a genuine source of not only useful tips and tricks, if that is relevant, but also someone they can interact with. The only difference now is we as business pages, have a consequence to face if we don’t do things the right way.

Use Facebook Responsibly 25 Sep 2011 9:05 AM (13 years ago)

Facebook Logo
There is no doubt that Facebook is one of the most important sites that has come out of the social media craze that the internet inspired. It helps people keep up with family and friends all over the world, has made it easy to keep abreast of the latest arrivals at our favorite stores, provided us with an easy way to share our pictures and videos, and provided us with partners to play games with at all hours of the day and night. It has even proved useful to parents who want to check on where there kids are via the check-in app that they can use in conjunction with their kids cell phones.

But like any other technological marvel that we have nowadays it needs to be used responsibly. People tend to forget that what they say and do on Facebook can be viewed by a lot of people, and not necessarily by just the people they want to see it. On Facebook a person has the ability to allow everyone on the Facebook network to see their information, or to limit it to several degrees of people that they choose. Facebook calls people that a person allows to see their information "friends". But just because this social media program labels them as "friends" that might not always be the case. Too often people accept "friend" requests from people that are virtual strangers because they may seem to have a similar like or interest in something that they are interested in. But by doing so they are allowing this new "friend" access to information that they probably would never allow a stranger that they met on the street to have.

Because these people are identified as "friends" on Facebook, it insidiously works its way into our subconscious that these people are to be trusted, and that is not always the case. Anyone who has access to their information can take it and re-post it to areas they aren't even aware of, like another social media site, YouTube, etc.

What many people forget is that once something is out there on the web it is fair game, and no matter how hard they try they may not ever be able to wipe it out completely, as many a job applicant or recently fired employee is finding out. So while they might find that picture of them stumbling blindly drunk out of a strip club at their bachelor party funny, it might not look good to a future employer and would give an opponent lots of ammunition when they run for the school board 20 years from now.

So the best thing to do is to enjoy Facebook and all the wonderful benefits it has, but leave all the risqué jokes and potentially embarrassing photos and videos in the bottom of the dresser drawer. And if someone isn't sure what might be construed as risqué or potentially embarrassing, they can use this rule of thumb: If they don't think it would look good on a billboard in town or they wouldn't want their grandmother to see it, don’t post it.

LG Infinia 42LV5500 will Change the Way You Watch Movies 24 Sep 2011 2:39 AM (13 years ago)

LG Infinia 42LV5500 HD 720px-1080px Television
If you are interested in making use of the latest technology called “internet TV”, you should consider getting the best device first. One good option is to go for the LG 42LV5500.

This is a web-ready HDTV, which makes it extremely easy to surf the internet along with watching your favorite TV shows. Quite like a smartphone, this particular internet TV has some apps pre-installed and the ability to install new ones. It means you can easily customize your internet TV not only with the games and music but with programming as well.

Here are some interesting points you need to know about this particular internet TV.
  • As far as the web access is concerned, this internet TV is probably the best. It allows you to catch some interesting movies from Netflix. At the same time, it allows you to surf the internet to get information about anything. It also allows you to watch YouTube clips, download interesting games, and check your Facebook page without making you go through any hassle.  You can use an Ethernet cable to connect it to the internet, but the good thing is that this smart TV doesn’t stop you from watching TV no matter if you have an internet connection or not. But of course, you need an active internet connection to be able to use interesting internet apps. Once connected, you can browse the internet with ease. There is an on-screen keypad that you can use to enter the URLs. It always saves your internet history as well as URLs for your favorite websites, making it less time consuming to visit different sites. The only issue is that this internet TV doesn’t support HTML 5 or Flash 10, which restricts you to some extent because some sites can only work if you have these plug ins installed. But other features are always there to compensate for some others. For instance, you can receive Premium sites along with those that are available on the basic home dashboard. Here, you can enjoy Napster, CinemaNow, NBA, Amazon VOD and more
  •  TV specs are quite interesting as well. This 42-inch internet TV has 1080p resolution along with easy picture calibration and a frame rate of 120 Hz. It has an LED screen that comes with a response time of 2.4 milliseconds; it prevents blurring on your TV screen. The power consumption is 125watts; this is average but it doesn’t go over 155 watts. There is a Dolby Digital Decoder and two speakers, each of 10 watts. What’s more, this internet TV by LG comes with a child lock; it is available in a V-chip that blocks certain channel but doesn’t interfere with internet access.
  • In terms of peripheral integration and customer support, this internet TV again scores well. It has a Magic Motion remote that works quite similar to that of a computer mouse. You can control the cursor on the screen just by moving your remote down, up or side-to-side. When you get this internet TV, you get a one-year warranty on parts.
LG Infinia 42LV5500 HD 720px-1080px Television
The bottom line is that LG 42LV 5500 is one great way of watching TV along with surfing the internet. It has numerous features, but the only drawback is that you can perform only one task at a time – that is – you cannot browse the internet while watching TV.

Software Apps: a Way to Keep an Eye on Your Children? 22 Sep 2011 1:29 AM (13 years ago)

Eye Guardian
There have been several reports about Eye Guardian, a software application in service of parents, who want to know what their kids are up to on Facebook. In that sense, the name of this app is misleading – it does not involve eye protection, at least not literally. And of course, this app was developed in the US (Texas, to be exact), where censorship and content control are issues of epic proportion.

Eye Guardian in service of parents
The Eye Guardian app is tailored to fit the parent’s sensitivity and individual criteria. Basically, it works like this – you input words you deem inappropriate – killer, beer, weed, etc. – and if these words appear on your kid’s Facebook or phone, you get an alert, which can be sent to your email or cell phone. Then you log into Eye Guardian, where you can see the offensive words or pictures. The app also catches cyber bullying, cyber stalking, and sexual content you deem inappropriate. The company marketing Eye Guardian is also selling it to police departments to facilitate Internet-based preventive measures against sex offenders.

Is it too good to be true?
The reports on such apps are brief and seem like advertisements. Parents, apparently, are overjoyed at the prospect. It is not mentioned how kids feel about this and about content control software in general. Moreover, the system can be blocked by anyone who has the password. It is not impossible for kids to get it. How would they feel if they found out their parents were spying on them? This is just a modern-day version of getting your letters opened.

Too totalitarian?
Opponents of such systems term them “censorware” and warn that such repressive measures are typical of totalitarian countries, such as Cuba, where users of public Internet cannot type certain words, and if they do, their access is blocked at once, and they are reported to the authorities.

Some believe, however, that this software could be useful for self-censorship by Internet addicts. These products are also known as accountability software. One would think this approach rather frustrating.

Other issues with spying
Is it moral to spy on your children in the name of their protection? If you filter words like “sex”, you could be blocking access to sites with medical information. You run the risk of over-blocking, which is filtering out important information. Some parents are willing to take this risk just so their kids will be safe. Under-blocking is also a possibility. This is when you fail to update your software (which naturally you have to do once in a while). Then new information is uploaded and the system misses it. This makes the software ineffective.

On the comic site, content-control software has been known to block access to the websites of Beaver College (before the inevitable name change) and Horniman Museum, among others. Take care that you are not too zealous about this.

In general, parents are supportive of such apps, while kids oppose them. Eventually your kids will grow up, move out, and access whatever sites they want.

Top 5 Christmas Gifts for Mums in 2011 20 Sep 2011 4:02 AM (13 years ago)

Top 5 Christmas Gifts for Mums in 2011
It’s approaching that time of year that every son with good intentions but hopelessly bad judgement dreads – Christmas. It’s cool to be kind to your Mother and repay her for the years of hard work she spent raising you, and you want to prove to her that she has not only raised a clever young gentleman, but a thoughtful one. Providing a good gift to your Mother will resound amongst your family circle as they all start seeing you as the gleaming beacon of hope, united in accepting that you will be the person to showcase the family surname throughout the world. Then your dreams of being enlisted in gift giving folklore are shattered as you sense that the very person that bought you into this world is not overwhelmed with the George Michael CD that you have so carefully considered. Therefore, let’s take a look at some of the gifts that will undoubtedly avoid such disappointment:
Amazon Kindle 3
1: Amazon Kindle
Does your Mum love reading books? Is she complaining that her house is always cluttered? Brilliant, you need to get her a Kindle. Amazon’s E-reading revolution has seen people of all ages start to see that reading books is a fashionable pastime once again. Thousands of books can be stored on them, they are light and practical and very easy to use. A great way of introducing your Mum to modern technology in a way that’s useful to her.

Spa day
2: Spa Day
Mums are always going out of their way for other people. Even on Christmas day you’ll notice it’s likely to be your Mum rushing around and organising presents and the Christmas dinner simultaneously. Give her the opportunity of having some time alone to be pampered at a luxury spa by buying her a spa gift voucher. That way she can choose what treatments she would like and she’ll get that well earned break she deserves. You can find a little more information about spa treatments here.

Magazines Subscriptions
3: Magazine Subscription
Buying your Mother a magazine subscription will show that you have carefully observed what she likes to do as a hobby and will hopefully encourage her to carry on doing what she enjoys! By having her favourite magazine delivered to her door every month, you’ll also give her one less thing to put down on that seemingly endless shopping list.

Apple Touch Screen Netbook
4: Netbook
If you’re Mum is a bit of a technophobe and you want to slowly introduce her to the magic of the Internet, netbooks can be the perfect icebreaker. Naturally their smaller size makes them feel less intimidating and if you just focus on showing her the basics of browsing the internet, she may just find this is the technological companion she is comfortable with. Plus, with netbooks becoming more popular you may just find a bargain this Christmas.

Perfume for women
5: Perfume
Perfume has always been an acceptable and reliable gift for Mums on any occasions. However you should only buy your Mum a perfume if you’re certain of the perfume that she likes. Otherwise this is a risky gift choice. A perfume will allow your Mum a touch of luxury wherever she goes and better yet, she’ll be reminded of her favourite son wherever she goes. Genius!

The Problem with Annual Video Game Releases 19 Sep 2011 9:34 AM (13 years ago)

top video games 2011
Every year the E3 convention seems like deja vu. While there are plenty of new and original games that emerge, sequels are the prominent trend. People love sequels, and this is not an argument against them, but many gaming publishers feel the need to release these sequels annually. This is especially true of sports franchises like Madden NFL football, NBA 2K basketball, MLB 2K baseball, and FIFA soccer, and there are problems with this release model.

Timing Is Everything
Game development has never been an exact science. It combines elements of Computer Science with elements of Art, Literature, Film, and many other disciplines. For big production games, there may be hundreds of people involved from the start of development to the final release.
Because of the varying factors that go into development, the time it takes to produce and release a quality game may also vary. We have extremes like Duke Nukem Forever, which took nearly forever to finish (12 years), and the Madden NFL series, which is finished in less than 12 months. As games have become more complex and gamers have come to expect better quality, the development cycles continually shrink.

Quality Over Quantity
If you ask someone what the biggest incentive for buying the next version of a Madden football game is, he or she will probably mention roster updates. This is unfortunate, considering EA sends roster updates throughout the year and could continue to do so for several years, if they wanted to keep customers playing the same version of the game.

Instead, they cut off users after a single season and expect them to pay full price for the next version of the game. In order to not completely slap gamers in the face, they must also find new features to add. They can only add so many graphical improvements with consoles that do not get upgraded each year, and often times the gaming features can go either way, better or worse, which inevitably leads to mixed reviews from loyal customers.

With a longer development cycle, even two years instead of one, the developers would have more time to iron out bugs in new features, fix long-standing problems with recurring features, and improve the overall polish on the game.
EA Games

The Online Cash Cow
There are some who would argue against longer development cycles because it would mean less revenue for the game companies, but when you look at the growth and change of the franchises, that does not seem to be a legitimate concern.

EA, for example, has found ways to cash in on its games from multiple sources:
  • Online Pass - Rather than allow anyone with a game to login and play online, only the original owners have online pass codes. If you buy the game used, you must purchase a new pass code in addition to the price you paid for the game itself.
  • Exclusivity - For the Madden franchise, EA has an exclusive deal with the NFL, meaning it does not even have competition with other gaming companies. If you want an NFL football game, there is only one option.
  • In-game advertisements - You already shell out $50 a year for the game, but that is not enough. Game companies now also include in-game advertising. NBA 2K11 and Madden NFL 11 both have painfully obvious advertising, beyond simple product placement, and other games often include billboards with ads and real-life products integrated into their virtual worlds.
A Better Model for Improvement
Game companies want to keep making money beyond the initial sale of their games, but rather than releasing an entirely new title with only a few minor changes from the previous version, they now have the technology and resources to release smaller frequent updates.

For example, you buy a game in 2011 for full price. In 2012, you pay $5 for downloadable content to extend new levels or other updates to the game. In 2013, you may pay $10 for more downloadable content. Finally, in 2014, a new version of the game is released with new features that is truly worth the full price. With this model, the game companies continue to keep the gamers hooked, and gamers get more for their money.

6 Student Car Safety Tips 19 Sep 2011 9:31 AM (13 years ago)

Car Safety Tips
When a student heads off to college, car safety is probably one of the last things on his mind. For parents, however, the safety of their college-bound child's car is of utmost importance. Help your university student ace "Car Safety 101" by reviewing these six tips with him before he starts his journey on the road to higher education.

Change Oil Regularly
This may seem like a no-brainer to seasoned adults, but some young people aren't aware of the importance of regular oil changes. Teach your child how to change the oil himself, or help him locate a trustworthy mechanic or oil change service in the area of his school. Explain the costly dangers of not changing the oil regularly. Emphasize the fact that, without proper oil maintenance, his car's engine could overheat and be completely ruined.

Keep Fluids Topped
If your college student is getting regular oil changes, chances are he won't have issues with low fluids, as most service centers top these free. Nevertheless, help him understand that oil and gas are not the only two fluids needed to run a car. Insufficient coolant can cause a vehicle's engine to overheat. Insufficient windshield wiper fluid can cause an accident if the conditions are right. Additionally, if your student is the forgetful type, consider presenting him with a plastic gas can for unexpected, "out-of-gas" emergencies.

Learn How to Change a Tire
Young people often don't know how to change a flat tire, or even where their spare tire is located. Provide your child with a jack and tire iron, along with the necessary knowledge on how to use them. For parents who don't know how to change a flat tire themselves, this is the perfect time to learn.

Keep the Right Amount of Pressure in Tires
A car with adequate tire pressure is safer and runs more efficiently. Low tire pressure can lead to costly accidents that can hurt your student's auto insurance rates now and for years to come. When his tires get low on air, make sure your child knows how to refill them properly. Simply blasting an air pump hose until the tire "seems" full is not a safe idea. Provide your child with a tire pressure gauge, and show him how to use it properly. Make sure he is aware of the ideal tire pressure level for his type of vehicle.

Understand How To Use Jumper Cables
Jumper cables can be a lifesaver, especially for people with used vehicles and older car batteries. Provide your child with jumper cables, and teach him how to use them the right way. Also, consider purchasing a jumpstart box, which runs on a battery. To use the box, no help is required from a strange motorist in another vehicle – a feature that is sure to grant nervous parents better sleep at night.

Carry a Cell Phone at All Times
Most kids are literally joined at the hip with their cell phones, but it bears reminding: a cell phone can be a lifesaver in the event of an auto emergency. Not only should your student keep his cell phone charged and stocked with minutes, he should also program emergency numbers into his contact list, including a local mechanic and a towing company.

The Best Reasons to Visit Melbourne Australia 18 Sep 2011 9:31 PM (13 years ago)

Melbourne Australia
Although light-hearted, the rivalry between Melbourne and Sydney has always been intense. With Australia's biggest airport, largest population and status as the venue for the 2000 Olympics, Sydney has the edge over Melbourne when it comes to PR, but Melbourne is "the quiet achiever" and those overseas visitors who take the time to pay Melbourne a visit fall in love with it. Here are a few good reasons to visit Melbourne:

Heritage
Admittedly, Sydney is older than Melbourne and does have many interesting historical sights, but history lives in the heart of Melbourne's Central Business District. The Athenaeum Theatre, built in 1839, was originally called the Mechanic's Institute. It remains in immaculate condition on the outside and has been fully restored and revamped inside and now is home to the theatre and the Melbourne Athenaeum Library. Yes, Sydney's Queen Victoria Building is also a wonderful old structure in the middle of the CBD, but it is surrounded by modern skyscrapers, while the Athenaeum is just one outstanding example of 19th century architecture in the heart of Melbourne.
                        The Athenaeum Theatre

The Melbourne Tram
While San Francisco still has a token tram line mostly for the benefit of tourists, Melbourne's tram line, first started in the late 19th century, continues to be a primary means of transport throughout the greater city area. With over 150 miles of track, the Melbourne tram is the third largest in the world. If you're visiting from overseas, you will need some sort of transport wherever you go in Australia. If you're in Melbourne, the tram will make your visit that much more enjoyable.
                    Melbourne Trams

The Arts
Even many Sydneysiders grudgingly admit that Melbourne is the arts capital of Australia. Historically, it is where the world's first feature film was made and many of Australia's most famous writers, painters and performers practiced their crafts in Melbourne. Today, Arts Victoria, the state body in charge of promoting the arts in Victoria, is heralded as the most active body of its kind in the country and hosts the yearly Melbourne Festival of the Arts in October. That in itself is a good reason to visit Melbourne, so if you love the arts, come to Melbourne in October.

Culture
High art is one thing, but art and culture at the street level is what makes any city a city of the arts. In Melbourne, you can see street culture everywhere. St. Kilda, originally the "poshest" suburb in Melbourne, fell into decline for many years, but has re-emerged as the cultural hub of the city, largely because of the magnificent St. Kilda Arts Centre, but also because the low rents make it the perfect place for university students to live and starving artists to work.

Other places to feel the pulse of the real Melbourne are Brunswick Street, Fitzroy and Chapel Street, Prahran. Before it gets painted over by the local council or other artists, check out the latest graffiti art on the walls in these suburbs. While some of Melbourne's more refined elements don't like to admit it, Melbourne is known as the graffiti capital of Australia. If graffiti is not your cup of tea, wander down to Lygon Street, Carlton and enjoy a perfect cappuccino in an Italian café. Carlton is the home of many of Melbourne's Italian families and a favorite haunt of the college crowd from nearby RMIT (Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology) and University of Melbourne.
                    Chapel St Melbourne

Australian Rules Football
Where else but in Melbourne would the local population be so proud of its heritage that one of its most popular sports would be a homegrown version of football that is played nowhere else in the world? Aussie Rules Football was born in Melbourne and thrives throughout the state of Victoria. Originally developed by Tom Wills in 1858 as a means of keeping cricket players fit during the winter months, it quickly developed into a sport that enjoys equal popularity with cricket in cricket loving Melbourne. Played on an oval field with 22 players on each team, to the uninitiated it looks like a free-for-all, but is actually a complex game with complex rules.

Nobody's saying you shouldn't visit Sydney, but if you miss Melbourne, you'll miss seeing a quintessentially Australian metropolis and a city that is like no other in the world. Book your Melbourne accommodation near a tram line (it's not hard to do) and see the city of Melbourne as Melburnians do. You will love it.

Author: Rob Schneider writes for ‘Book It Now’ about popular destinations across Australia. If planning a visit to Melbourne you will find information about where to stay in Melbourne on and  a wide range of Melbourne accommodation and ‘Book it Now’.

Five Tips for Riding a Motorcycle with a Passenger 18 Sep 2011 8:50 AM (13 years ago)

tom cruise and cameron diaz knight and day
Not every motorcycle rider is experienced with carrying passengers. Many people become excited at the idea of taking a spin on a motorcycle, and riders may become very familiar with people asking to ride with them. If you’re not well-versed with passenger carrying, you may start to feel a bit apprehensive about taking on the responsibility that comes with riding tandem. If you’re not experienced at carrying passengers on your bike it’s natural to get nervous or worried, but these helpful riding tips are designed to make you feel more comfortable with another rider on your vehicle.

  • Be Aware Of Your State’s Laws
Whether riding with a passenger or not, one should always be well aware of their state’s individual laws regarding motorcycle ridership. Always ride in accordance with your individual state’s laws being observed. Be aware that some states require a passenger be of a certain age before riding a motorcycle, while others leave that judgment up to the parent or legal guardian of a child.
  • Be Aware of Helmet Laws and other Equipment Requirements
Generally, a passenger is required to wear a helmet in places where the driver is required to wear a helmet. The passenger is likely to need footrests and a seat on the motorcycle to be legally able to ride. Check into equipment requirements before allowing a passenger to ride on your vehicle.
Five Tips for Riding a Motorcycle with a Passenger
  • Practice in a Safe and Private Environment
Carrying a passenger completely changes the way that a bike will start, stop, turn and handle. If you’ve never taken a passenger, it’s a good idea to practice with one for a time before taking them out on roadways.  When turning corners, your bike may turn wider or narrower than you’re used to, and adding extra weight to the back of a bike will especially change braking times.
  • Consider the Experience of Your Passenger
If your passenger has never been on a motorcycle as a passenger, you may need to give them a few pointers on responsible ridership. Adjust your riding style to accommodate the skills of your passenger by giving them plenty of time and warning when they need it. Start and stop gently to aid them in getting used to passenger riding, and never show off when you’ve got a passenger.
  •  Proper Insurance Coverage
Always be sure to inspect your insurance coverage for information about motorcycles carrying passengers and what to expect. A rider should always consider his or her coverage before getting into a position of being underinsured for certain circumstances. Be proactive in your motorcycle riding by knowing your policy plan.
Allison works with MotorcycleInsurance.com, where you can go to find cheap motorcycle insurance and learn more about motorcycle safety.

Breaking the Habit of Thumb Sucking 18 Sep 2011 1:42 AM (13 years ago)

how to stop thumb sucking
As babies, many of us turn to our thumbs as sources of comfort in times of stress, so it only makes sense that this habit is sometimes carried over into adulthood. While most adults and older children are slick enough to hide such habits, thumb sucking can cause severe tooth damage and should be stopped as soon as possible to avoid further deformation of the teeth.

One popular method of stopping the thumb sucking habit is by soaking the thumb in a spicy liquid. If you have any cuts on your finger, this can be a painful experience in more way than one, but otherwise, you shouldn’t feel it. If you happen to stick your thumb in your mouth while it has the spicy substance on it, you will immediately notice the spice, and pull your thumb away. After a while, your brain will associate sucking your thumb with an unpleasant reaction and you will lose the desire. Since spicy substances wash off easily and require the spice to be reapplied often, this isn’t a very practical method to use when in public.

If you are looking for a public-friendly method of preventing yourself from sucking your thumb, try a nail polish specially formulated to taste disgusting. Available online, these clear or colored nail polishes are an inexpensive and conspicuous method of preventing public thumb sucking. As with spices, flavored nail polish teaches the brain that sticking your thumb in your mouth leads to an unpleasant effect and reminds you of this memory each time you put your thumb to your mouth.

how to stop thumb sucking during sleep
Many people suck their thumbs in their sleep – when they cannot control what they are doing. This can be the hardest form of thumb sucking to break since your brain does it while you are unconscious and unable to stop yourself. There are a few different ways to help you stop sucking your thumb in your sleep. By planning a sleep-over or inviting a friend to spend the night, you can start the night with the conscious reminder that there is someone else in the room watching you. While unpleasant to most, this embarrassment is a great emotion to combat the urge to suck your thumb. If nobody is available to come over, try wearing gloves to bed. This tricks the brain into thinking a different object has been inserted into the mouth and often times, stopping the action from taking place.

However self-indulgent it may appear, there's something in company biography books that make their existence valuable in marketing; they tell the company’s history, goals, and values. But these booklets are still often ignored by company employees given the fact that they are usually printed in glossy and artsy paper with colors and designs obviously commissioned from a classy graphic design firm.

We can’t blame them why they never paid a glance to these classy annual booklet giveaways. Aside from the exasperating traditional mug shots of happy and theatrically smiling employees, inter-racial group of intertwined hands (usually comprised of Black, White, White and brown Asian’s) symbolizing togetherness and strength, silhouette of happy family in opaque or wash color treatment, and happy group shot of unproblematic kids from different parts of the world, these company books are often boring and lack significant and helpful contents, needless to mention that it is all about bragging how valiant the CEO was in saving the poor and jobless people during scarcity and monetary downfall.

Culture Book
To other companies, especially to those who take their business with ardor, passion, and zealousness, these company biographies are tools not just to brag about how the company took the path of wilderness to achieve success. They even call it culture book, a sweet term that separates their version from being a braggart and promotional booklet to what they want to achieve as an organization, and indeed, it is way functional and significant from traditional company biography books.

Culture book’s goal is to define the set of values existing internally in the margins of the business rather to impose certain principles and standards. That’s why it always starts with the company’s mission, or what the company is striving to achieve using the existing values inside the company, and vision/s, or the things the company is surely expecting when mission is achieved. It is also the chief reason why most successful companies today have internal goals translated into catchy phrases or internal company slogans. FedEx has “purple promise”, Telstra has “communicate to success”—and these are done to serve their main function, which is to define the organization’s internal culture.

Culture Books and Internal Reputation
To those companies who find slogan insufficient or ineffective to define the culture inside their organization, culture books are perfect way to do it the simpler way. They put in it print and make it available in the confines and every corner of the business area. In simpler words, culture book is a printed material compiled as a book to define culture and build reputation inside the organization; it is a manual to ensure the employees to understand and embody the spirit of organization.

On Marketing
Culture book (company biography, organizational pamphlet, or whatever people want to call it ) is part of marketing. As mentioned, its goal is to build a strong internal reputation among employees to make the entire organization achieve, believe and involuntarily follow one particular culture. A company with strong internal reputation and unified culture avoids disputes, misunderstandings, and inequality inside the organization.
