As I have decided to embrace the Autumn season well and truly, I also realise I want to help those hygge vibes along and create a warm, cosy and inviting space for me and the family to relax in. I am a big believer that the space around us really can influence our mood, and with one or two areas of 'Home Sweet Home' still not quite finished off, my mood can be a bit fickle at times ;) I wanted to begin to bring a little Autumn love into at least one room and so the lounge was decided upon. I still love the florals, and they will always play a part in my home decor for sure, but ones tastes do change over time and so I've decided to cut back from the flowers (a little) and am aiming for a more simple, streamlined look, with plain walls and pops of colour!
After a little mooch, that turned out to be a bit of a shopping spree at
Dunelm (it will always be Dunelm Mill to me!) I found some lovely bits to help me create that cosy feeling that I was yearning.
I also think I found my 'pop' in the form of 'Ochre' a particularly lovely autumnal shade of mustard yellow. Oh my goodness I can't get enough of it and have been surprised with how it can compliment many a backdrop. You can see the popping of colour in the haul I got!
I just had to have the cute slippers with their ochre pom pom!
Once I had a chance to have a good look through my haul, a couple of the cushion covers didn't quite do it for me, so I decided to exchange them for some other ones. Ah yes, now that's much better! With the dog in mind of course, seeing as he sits on the sofa as much as anyone else ;)
And whilst he's up on the sofa, it seems I'm not the only one who also loves cosying up with the fury throws.
Against the crisp white walls the ochre lampshade looks so cheery!
And with the colourful party lights this is a lovely corner of the room. My daisy wooden wall art had never quite found its perfect place in 'Home Sweet Home' over the years, but now with the ochre love in here and its tiny yellow disc centre think it's found its new place! When the party lights are on, this corner is one of my favourite spaces to sit.
I'm just loving Dunelm's cosy
teddy bear range, so as well as picking up a couple of their throws, I couldn't resist a super soft hoodie for Miss. Poppins and I to snuggle up in. Being a teen, I have to take every cuddle opportunity I can get and these will definitely help to get some mum/daughter time I'm sure!
As we have been looking for a rug to suit the lounge and realised the previous one, although super lovely, was a little too small, saw a great one at Dunelm, and even better was half price so a great buy. I must be growing up a bit as my teen said "You're turning into Nainy (welsh for grandma) as it's the sort of thing she'd buy". Well, my mum often gets lovely compliments on her home decor so it can't be half bad. The rug looks great, adds warmth, not too in your face and seems to compliment all the mustard love!

We have had our Ikea sofas for longer than I care to remember, and the time has come after many years to bring some new sofa love in. Our lounge isn't that big a space so we have to be really careful with not having something too big, but we seem to be quite taken on a corner sofa and a two seater/sofa bed. However we have looked, and looked, and looked and looked (you get the picture) and just can't decide. Apart from the colour (a light/medium grey) we are no further, and perhaps the trusty Ikeas will be sat on forever!
Talking of Ikea, I have had this Ikea chair on my wish list for ages....so maybe the ochre love has always been there.
I'm also getting quite fond of the faux plant vibe and having only a few real plants dotted around my home of the green variety, I think the faux look can really help to fill the space. I picked up these ficus spray's whilst at Dunelm and they look surprisingly good and only cost 99p a stem.
And this Ivy looks lovely across the mantle above the led candles so no fire hazard issue there!
I also find smells and fragrances help to create a lovely mood and I knew as soon as the Gingerbread candles and diffusers came back into Home Bargains, I was going to get my hands on one. Obviously what fragrance one person likes candle wise can be very individual, I tend to be a vanilla, coffee, chocolate type of girl so Gingerbread is perfect for me, and these smell delicious! I've yet to try the Gingerbread diffuser out so shall leave that in it's packaging until we are well and truly in the depths of Autumn.
Of course I couldn't resist a little light of the teeny version, these are such a bargain at only 59p I can see me going back for many (many) more!
I'm trying to watch less telly (which is a bit ironic as Autumn is usually a great season for some fab tv dramas) and get reading more, of course my new book had to match the decor ;)
So, its a start, and with bare white walls in the lounge, I may be inspired to add a little colour, but for now I'm slowly starting to feel the Autumn vibes and am enjoying my cosy time!
Hope you are feeling the cosy love too, I'd love to know what helps you to create the Autumn love decor wise at this time of year!

New Seasons
19 Sep 2017 8:23 AM (7 years ago)

Normally at this time of year as one season blends into another, the days get shorter, and the nights draw in earlier, I have a little wobble. I'm definitely a spring/summer girl and as these colder, darker months creep upon me, I tend to want to hide, to hibernate and pop out again come spring! Ok, ok I physically don't hibernate to the outside world but the want is certainly there. I do however feel Autumn is a beautiful month with the change-over, and to be embraced, so I have decided to soak it all up and help make the change over that little bit easier.
First some inspiration from one of my vintage Ladybird books!
And here is what it says...
"There are many, many things to look for in autumn, just as there are at any other time of year. You will, of course, soon find such things as blackberries and hazel nuts, but if you know where to look you might also find the nests of the wood wasp hanging from twigs, or a bumbles bee's nest in the bank - in which you might even discover a field-mouse curled up. You can look for the large flocks of various kinds of birds, some in their young plumage, others fully adult, and some still half-and-half; and sometimes you will find all the males together in one flock, and all the females in another. This book will tell you about many other interesting things that you can see, and will greatly increase the pleasure of your country walks."
Gosh what's not to love! I shall enjoy dipping in and out of my little book. To get me on my way, I took a little visit to the library to seek out any other inspiring books. I found a great Selina Lake one called "Winter Living".
It has some great ideas for transforming your home into a welcoming haven inspired by the romantic charm of winter. I'm really into the Hygge movement and so anything that helps to create a pretty, calm and inspiring space I'm all up for! There is a great little piece on winter florals and creating a pretty backdrop for the home.
I really liked the idea of drying out some pretty hydrangeas and having friendly neighbours with an abundance of the pretty flowers, kindly let me have some. There were so many pretty colours and I looked quite the country girl collecting them in my lovely Freecycle wicker basket.
A couple may have been just past their best for picking but lovely all the same and I couldn't wait to get displaying them.
I'm yet to remove all the leaves and so am enjoying the very best ones before they start to dry out, which they are starting to do.
I'd like to find other ways to display them once they have dried out so if you have any ideas please let me know. For now I'll enjoy looking at my little arrangement which sits on a recently painted little table I found on Freecycle. I just love Freecycle and I don't think there is any room in my home that doesn't have a least a couple of Freecycle, or Freegle as its now called pieces in it. Very often a piece that I have up-cycled.
The little rose gold 'Dream' sign was a 99p bargain from Aldi from their clearance sale. We're also in the middle of a re-decoration in the lounge and whilst browsing in Laura Ashley found this lovely wool blend rug in their sale. A real bargain at £38 from £125!
It's possibly a bit too small for the room, but I couldn't resist the cheery check and it'll be a great addition to any of my other rooms. I had seen another stripey bargain (ex-display) rug at the same time, it was bigger, but I couldn't make my mind up which one to get. The next day I realised the stripey one was probably a better fit for the lounge being bigger, so I dashed back to get it. As I went through the the shop door I saw someone at the till buying it. Ha! I wanted it even more then ;) So the hunt is still on for a larger rug that isn't going to break the bank.
For now I shall enjoy dipping into my inspiring library books to help me get into the changing season mood!

Day Out To Buxton
29 Aug 2017 10:08 AM (7 years ago)

Hello again!
Well I don't know about you but I just love impromptu days out, where you just decide to get out and see where the wind takes you. I had one of these days recently and the wind happened to take us to lovely Buxton. Its a gorgeous drive out there with rolling hills and winding roads. I thought I'd share some of the highlights of the day...
First off a walk through the Pavilion Gardens.
The Pavilion looked very grand with its pretty bunting swishing in the wind!
Then on for a look at the old band stand.
The tulip adorned railings are a lovely feature!
After a little mooch around the Pavilion where I purchased some delightful retro style postcards...
It was time for a little basketball!
Always time for a quick snap!
After some lovely fresh air it was time to head on into the town, passing the Buxton well made me wish I'd brought my empty water bottles.
Then it was on to the Cavendish Arcade, I hadn't been here for a while but remember how pretty the shops used to be inside. I was not disappointed!
I just love the tiled walls.
And this spa bath looked very interesting!
Back to the pretty shops and they were full of lots my favorite things.
I very nearly came away with these fab and ever so comfy shoes, maybe I'll have to go back ;)
I did come away with a couple of other little treats though.
I then remembered how Buxton was great for shabby chic/vintage stores and took myself off for a little wander. I found this lovely little place and every corner was filled with vintage loveliness!
Next I found myself in the most amazing charity shop!
The changing room.
I was very tempted with this vintage fabric bag, it was only about £3 and I just loved the faded floral print, but I ended up putting it back for someone else to enjoy.
Soon it was time to head back and I walked via one of my favourite buildings in Buxton the
Buxton Opera House
I noticed quite a bit of building work going on around Buxton Crescent and stopped to have a read about what was being built.
A new spa hotel, very nice!
So homeward bound it was after our little day out...don't think it will be too long till we're back again! Here are the little treats I did come away with!
I couldn't resist these two items from the New Look sales, I love swallows and so the shirt was a must! The sandals are just the comfiest and a lovely tan colour.
I very often come away with things for the home and this cute rag rug and jug were definitely keepers. I think the jug looks lovely just as it is and it was only £7 from one of the interior shops.
The rag rug adds a great pop of colour to any space!
And last but not least the cute vintage style postcards - I just love these!

Aldi Haul
7 Aug 2017 3:49 AM (7 years ago)

Hello, back again so soon... I really must keep up this new blogging pace!
As we all know I love a good bargain so I have to admit I am an avid Aldi shopper and when it comes to their special buys I'm always on the look out for new products. The middle isle in Aldi is often very kind to me especially so when there have been products reduced even further!
You may or may not have heard about the No1, No2 and No3 candles that Aldi sold around Mother's Day time. They were known as the Jo Malone dupe's and being at only £3.99 you can see why they were so popular. Well I tried, tried and tried again to get one but no luck, they had sold out everywhere! It just wasn't meant to be. I had heard recently that they were coming back as a permanent line so I thought now is my chance! Nope, yet again I still couldn't find these infamous candles anywhere.
On the off chance shopping late one evening I thought I'd ask if my local store may be getting them (casually of course so as not to appear too desperate) and was given the response "The candles are over there luv". Over there!! Over there!! They'd been in the store all this time and I'd not seen them whilst shopping. Well no wonder really, there I was looking frantically amongst the middle isle stuff and they were actually with the bin bags and bleach (never on my shopping list) on the other side of the shop. I wasn't so casual when it came to walking over, I practically skipped!
Loads left!
However tempting it was to lift the boxes of candles and just chuck 'em in the trolley, that would be quite greedy so I was quite restrained and just picked a set of 3 and a couple of extras as gifts. Hopefully being a permanent line they'll now be in store more often. I had heard mixed reviews about this new stock and that some people were left wondering where the fragrance was so I was eager to try them out and see for myself.
They really do look very Jo Malone-y and are much bigger than I thought they would be. The fragrances are No1 (Lime, Basil and Mandarin) No2 (a new fragrance Blackberry Bay) and No3 (Pomegranate Noir) So far I have only lit No3 and it's just lovely, the scent for me is definitely there!
Whilst I was on the search for my Jo Malone dupes I happened to find these candles from Aldi and were fab bargains, they certainly appeased my candle needs before finally finding the much coveted ones.
The Scentcerity Sweet Pea candle smells divine!!
Another product that has literally been flying off the shelves is their Exfoliating Mud Mask at £5.99. Now this mud mask has been likened to a similar GlamGlow product priced at £39! I'm yet to try out the Aldi one but I've heard many good reports, so hopefully it won't be too long until I too have that smooth youthful feeling that everyone is talking about!
I'm actually getting to be quite a fan of beauty products, indeed always on the look out for the next lotion or potion that may help to improve my skin and perhaps take a year or two off - or hopefully in my case a decade! Often creams that claim to be the next best thing in giving you that much wanted youthful skin can sometimes really break the bank...ok, it has to be said cheaper than botox but that's not the point as not an avenue that I really want to go down... I couldn't resist this little Aldi haul recently when I saw them, such bargains, but will they do the trick?
I picked up:
Lacura Lavender Midnight Power cream for rejuvenated and smooth skin.
Lacura Lavender Midnight Power Eye Care for a rejuvenated and bright eye area.
Lacura Vitacell Serum Concentrate for skin youthfulness that may be restored.
Lacura Vitacell Eye Cream for a reduction in fine lines and dark circles.
Lacura My Expert Miracle Skin Perfecting Day Cream for a smooth skin feel.
I purchased the above on different visits, the Vitacell serum and eye cream and My Expert cream had been further reduced so I would have still got change from £20 for all five products. Considering many of these products have been likened to other high end creams costing sometimes £100's of pounds, I think under £20 for all of them rather good in comparison!
I can't wait to try out the Vitacell range, and I'm told the Caviar range is also good so I guess I shall keep my out for that next time. Whilst the sun has been out I was in need of a new sun hat and loved this £3.99 one - a fab bargain!
So after my various hauls I think a sit down is in order, with a special drink of course, and what better than a little Rosé. This £5.99 Aldi one has been ranked as one of the best in the world!!
Chin, chin!

Well, hello lovelies!! I'm so sorry, I certainly seem to have be been AWOL for quite a while there haven't I!? Lets call it a blogging break, holiday, hiatus....oh ok, I'll admit it, the blogging mojo upped and went, closed the door behind and I thought it was never to return. Well as life has it, the mojo has decided to re-appear and I seem to have found my love of blogging all over again and look forward to posting little snippets from my life, and of course my many bargain shopping hauls!! I think we should start with some pretty pictures to get the ball back 'o rolling don't you?
I recently found some quote postcards in the sales for 20p and so I bought many different ones, I enjoy placing them around the home to help motivate and inspire me when I walk in to one of the rooms.
And of course I'm still loving all things pink and floral! Whilst they were in season, I made frequent Aldi trips every week to stock up on my peony bargains.
Now the peonies seem out of season, it's back to my trusty roses!
I really don't think the pink will ever leave me!
When I thought the time had come after many months, no possibly years of pondering over whether to get a pair of the Saltwater sandals, it HAD to be the fuchsia hot pink for my colour of choice. I always thought this particular style of sandal would make me look about 6 years old wearing them, but after hearing so many reviews on how comfy they are I just had to go for it. They are indeed so, so comfy. Having narrow feet, they are possibly a little wider on me than my usual shoe/sandal, but after a few wears (including a paddle or two in the sea) are moulding to my feet much better.
I'm always still up for a bargain, and having a sweet tooth, I couldn't leave this delicious birthday cake behind for only £2.50!! It was scrumptious and so pretty to look at. It was no-ones birthday in our house, but it certainly felt like it eating it!

My love of up-cycling is increasing as the days are getting warmer/longer and I have plenty of painting time. A lovely friend has been updating her kitchen dinner into the kitchen of (my) dreams and she has so kindly given me her unwanted farmhouse kitchen table and solid wood chairs for me to makeover. I can't wait to get going and although I've only got as far as giving the chairs a quick rub down and clean, have had a good think about the makeover and I can't wait to get cracking! I was hoping to try out the Aldi chalk paint, but think its a quick seller so haven't managed to get some yet. I do like my Annie Sloan paint but my purse certainly doesn't ;) I shall be re-doing all the seat pads, and fancy something very pretty so shall be digging out my fave Cath Kidston fabrics.
Talking of Aldi, I've managed to find some great bargains from there recently, that middle isle is like an Aladdin's cave of delights sometimes. I'll share my finds with you on my next post!
So I've quietly crept back in, and its just been my 9th blog-anniversary, think I'll have to sort out a little giveaway for you guys!! Until then, I'll leave you with a little pic of Master Poppins taken by the very talented
Whitrigg Photography He who was about 2 years old when I started this blog, and now.......he's off to secondary school. How did that happen, time is just flying by...

As the summer months are now coming to an end, and school is well and truly back with all it's busy-ness, getting a good night's sleep is ever important. We were given the opportunity to try out a made to measure
Blackout Thermal Roller Blind and as I really liked the look of the blinds in terms of quality and cost, I also ordered an extra one as we have another window in the same size that is in need of a suitable window dressing. I love the fact that they are made to measure, especially as the two windows I was wanting these blinds for are quite wide and many ready-made blinds just aren't available in such a wide measurement. The website clearly explains how to go about measuring up your window to ensure the best fit possible.
After placing the order it wasn't long before the two blinds arrived and I got busy working out the fitting instructions which were straightforward to follow. Colour wise I thought I couldn't go wrong with the 'Ivory' option which describes itself as "Just past off-white but not quite cream so works perfectly in most decorating schemes as a neutral undertone that will last for years to come".
(Photograph courtesy of website)
I decided to get the blind for the bedroom fitted first, and currently I have my scrumptious Ikea Rosali curtains dressing the window. These obviously don't stop the light coming through in the mornings and especially on weekends it's nice to have a bit of darkness in there for a little cheeky lie-in!
The Ivory colour makes a perfect neutral backdrop for the floral curtains, and the sidewinder chain mechanism is really easy to use. The blind is also supplied with a child safety clip which of course is a very important feature. We all need an occasional wind down in the daytime and once the blind has been pulled down the blackout effect is really effective. It practically feels like night time in the bedroom at one o'clock in the afternoon!
Sometimes blackout blinds can have a very stark white look to the back of them, but these have a lovely natural coordinating backing, and even pulled down look just as good from the outside.
Next it was time to get the other blind up in the lounge and like the bedroom it fitted perfectly. It looks lovely against the neutral curtains, creating a very simple, non-fussy look. As I went for fitting the blind in the recess there is still ample room for photographs etc on the windowsill.
I have been really impressed with the blinds and as we have another three windows that I would like roller blinds for, I am definitely going to go back to
www.orderblinds.co.uk for more. I have had no issues with the quality and I think they have indeed proved to be a perfect backdrop. With the added blackout feature they have also enabled me to have a few extra Zzzzzz on occasion...
Edit: I did indeed go back and purchased extra blinds which I have been really happy with!

Disclosure: We were provided with a blackout roller blind for the purposes of this blogpost, with discount off a further blind. All words and opinions my own.

Well hello lovelies!
Gosh where has the time gone, I have no idea. My blogging mojo is back in full force and I look forward to sharing lots of lovely posts now the holidays are approaching. First up, and as part of my blogger ambassador role with Iconic Lights, I have a new and very lovely light to share with you. As usual Iconic Lights offer up so many unique lights and this is no exception. It is the
3 Legged Wooden Table Floor Light which is one of the best designed lights I have ever seen.
I decided to choose the cream option for the shade as having quite a neutral background at home, thought it would blend into any room. I just love the way the lampshade arrives gently folded, which not only saves on packaging but is also a great idea.
It really is so easy to set the shade up and was done in seconds.
The table base and legs were also a doddle to assemble and I knew straight away that I loved this light.
The addition of the little table is really unique and I don't think I have ever seen a light with this feature. It's such a quirky and useful design, perfect for popping on those little things you need next to you, whilst watching the TV, or just having a little relaxation time.
Having rather a generous array of knick-knacks, there will always be something I can pop on the little table.
I like a generous glow of light, enough to light up the space but not too glaring and this light creates a very ambient atmosphere as darkness approaches.
It really is one the best floor lamps I have ever seen, and fits in beautifully with the decor. I thought it may take up quite a big space but it is actually rather compact, and slots in the corner wonderfully.
Head over to
Iconic Lights if you'd like to check out for yourself the many lights available :)

Disclosure: I was sent the above light for the purposes of this review blog post, all words and opinions are my own.
Are You Thready?
29 Feb 2016 7:55 AM (9 years ago)

My crafting mojo has finally come back, and yippee, just in time to get going on a lovely craft project from White Stuff. The
Are You Thready campaign invites White Stuff customers to get creative and help raise a goal of £16,000 via the White Stuff Foundation which supports local community charities. They are asking all crafty (and non crafty) folks to design a fabric patch and hand it back in store or you have the option of posting it. For every patch received online or in store White Stuff will donate £5 to the shops local charity.
You can either design one of their pre-cut patches, or be inventive and make your own. What is particularly inspiring is that up for grabs is a wonderful crafting holiday for two in Italy and which I think sounds utterly divine and right up my street. Also up my street is this gorgeous personalised apron White Stuff sent as a surprise, wearing it certainly got me in the mood for crafting :)
The patch I was given to decorate was lovely just as it was with the dramatic owls and cute design, I had to think really hard to decide how to decorate it.
If you happen to need supplies, for every sewing kit sold, White Stuff will donate all the profits from each sale to help the foundation reach its goal.
They really are the cutest kits, and so, so pretty!
Finished patches are to be handed in by the 10th March, where each store will hold a lovely tea party (I'll be there) whilst store staff do a little judging of entries. A store winner will be announced and that winner shall receive a £50 White Stuff voucher. All winning patches will then be judged at White Stuff HQ for an overall winner who shall get to fly to Tuscany for a fantastic 6 night luxury artistic
retreat Having never been to Italy, but so wanting to, also loving textiles and creativity, I of course was eager to get my entry in.
Firstly I gathered some of my fabrics.
Then I thought of a design for the patch, I knew it had to be something inspiring, that would bring a smile to my face and pretty, oh yes, it has to be pretty.
Soon I started cutting out my little inspiring shapes for the patch. Then I cut some more.
I soon realised this was actually quite a fiddly job, but was enjoying every second.
What is so lovely about this campaign is that every single patch entered will be used in either a cushion or quilt, and which will then be donated to each of the 104 charities White Stuff support. I think that this is the real magical part of the project and am so happy the patches will go on to be used in this way.
So here's a little peek at my finished patch which has a definite 'Home Sweet Home' vibe to it.
I shall look forward to handing it in, and am also looking forward to that little tea party - good luck if you join in and get thready with your patch!

I'm veering away from the very pink, girly look I post about so much and offering up something a little bit different from me today. As part of the home interiors ambassador programme at
Iconic Lights I get to preview their new lighting designs, trends and, even on occasion, get to try out one or two of their stylish lights at home.
Of course, there will always be a vintage, retro vibe to anything that makes it's way through my front door, and this table lamp is no exception. I am testing out the fantastically cool
Retro Style Telephone Table Lamp and I have to say it looks stunning! In fact I think it's the first black table lamp that I have ever had at home, and it works really well against my white brick effect background.
It arrived with the large black lampshade rolled up and you simply velcro the two plastic hoops provided onto the flattened out shade, remove the self-adhesive strip and stick the end of the shade in place.
It was so simple to do, and perfect for home delivery as because the shade is rolled up there is very little chance of it arriving with any dents etc. Here is a photograph of one of the hoops being rolled onto the shade.
The black telephone base is so authentic and creates a very quirky vibe to the room.
Next, it was time to attach the lampshade to the base. As this is a vintage/retro style lamp, I really wanted to have a vintage style bulb too. I found this one when I was out and about and thought it perfect for the lamp.
The bulb, with it's squirrel cage filament, is really big and works so well with the table tamp, almost like they were made for each other.
I found the perfect spot for it in the corner of the dining room, I have already had lots of comments from visitors how lovely it is. Its quite an oversized lamp so a real statement piece!
I think it stands out really well on the drawer unit I painted, and with our "Just remember: As far as anyone knows we are a nice, normal family" hanging sign on one of the drawers - how I love that sign!
When the light is switched on in the evening, it creates a lovely warm glow against the black shade.
I love this black and white image I took of it - very film noir.
Iconic Lights really do offer some amazing and quirky lights that are perfect for both vintage and contemporary interiors so if you're looking for new lighting, or some inspiration, I'd say their website is well worth a look.

As this cold weather has me well and truly reaching for my hat, scarf and gloves, I was more than happy to offer a review of a very cosy looking long jacket from
Trespass The jacket in question is a
faux fur trim down jacket and is from the Ladna collection. It comes in Wildberry, Black, Khaki and Parchment colour ways. I thought the Parchment a little different and a nice fresh colour to choose this season so I chose that colour. The jacket has many features, including an adjustable zip off hood, removable faux fur trim, two zip pockets (with one internal pocket) and a two-way zip.
When the jacket arrived it was a very cold day and I couldn't wait to wear it on my next venture out into the world. As soon as I tried it on, firstly I noticed the fit, neither too big, nor too small but true to my size. I'm a small 10 and the size small fitted me perfectly. The quilted design creates a very luxurious touch and I really felt like I was walking around wearing a mini duvet, it felt so cosy. Teamed with a casual pair of jeans and a light jumper, even with it unzipped, I still felt so warm.

For me, I love the longer length, I'm around 5'4" and the coat reaches just past my knees. On wearing it you really can feel the difference from wearing a shorter style coat. I thought I may have felt a bit constrained, or hemmed in with it being a longer style but I didn't have that feeling at all, especially with the two zip function. There is plenty of space to move around and my legs definitely felt warm and protected. Also, as it is water resistant if I'm caught out in a shower wearing it, then lucky me as the longer length keeps most of my body nice and dry.
With its array of features it really does become quite an adaptable coat, perfect for those cold wintry walks in the country and then when the weather has warmed up a little, you can start to peel layers off the jacket.
Firstly, the faux fur trim can be unzipped off.
Then, when the weather warms up even more you can unzip the actual hood off altogether.
I have to also mention the quality of the coat. In my opinion the coat is priced very reasonably with it already at a much discounted price. There are some similar high end branded coats and jackets out there, and having tried some of those jackets on myself, I believe this Trespass jacket more than matches, and perhaps even beats the quality of those but for a fraction of the price. It really is very light too, so it never feels heavy or weighted down on me. Also, one thing I notice about hooded coats is often the hood's are quite big for my head though with this jacket the hood is volume adjustable via a toggle at the back of the hood, so I can now see where I'm going.
Without doubt this is a fantastic coat, not only in terms of the reasonable price but I think the performance is top notch and I can't fault it. I am yet to wash it but pleased to see it is machine washable, so far any little marks on it I have just been able to wipe clean which has worked out fine. As someone who feels the cold, when I wear this jacket I can honestly say I have never owned a coat that has made me feel so warm wearing it. With the cold snap in store I have a feeling this jacket is going to get rather well used....

Hello lovelies xxxx
Well, I've had a very relaxing Christmas and New Year break and I hope you did too, with good health and mucho happiness. I have to say it's quite refreshing to get back into a routine after lots of slobbing about in pj's, watching Christmas movies and eating copious amounts of chocolates, and which we did a lot of over the break. I can't believe that here we are, already nearly in the middle of January.
I can't quite pack away the Christmas bedding I got from Asda, just one more wash I keep saying to myself, then on the bed it goes again. Its a pretty one, very Cath Kidson-esque :)
There are often some great bargains to be had not long before Christmas, and I found a lovely little selection of discounted treats to help me get in the Christmas mood and ready for the party season. I hadn't purchased any new make up for a little while and as a fan of Benefit, I couldn't wait to snap up this little selection box that was on offer.
Their eyebrow zings found its way into my cart too, oops a daisy... But oh my, after trying so many different eyebrow pencils and shadows to define my eyebrows, this has to be the best eyebrow kit I have ever tried. It is a little pricey, but when you add up all those little pencils....;)
Next up I found some perfume that was reduced, I was a big fan of CK ONE back in the day, and couldn't wait to try CK IN2U. Its a lovely light and refreshing scent, perfect for every day wear.
I'm all for a little highlighting and also love rose gold accessories. When I saw this YSL limited edition Touche Éclat Or Rose highlighter at half price, I fell in love with it straight away. It's a rose gold version of its former self and the highlighter works great to add a little radiance and sparkle on the cheekbones, temples and brow bone.
One item I had ummed and ahhed about for a little while was a personalised Claireabella jute bag. I just didn't know if was 'me' or not. However every time I went back on the website and had another browse, another think, I yearned for one more and more. Before Christmas they had a £10 off promotion on their
'Selfie' Jute bags. Well I had to go for it and got busy personalising it.
Ha ha I love it and so glad I took the plunge. It's very tongue-in-cheek, very sparkly and very pink! It's also a great size and perfect for days out and weekends away. I had originally picked a light pink which although still looked great, I really love a bubblegum pink so I just topped it up with a bit of an acrylic paint I already had and it turned out fine.
I was more than happy with my little pre-Christmas haul and as ever, I do believe Christmas is all about the presence and not the presents....but who doesn't love a little surprise or two under the Christmas tree and Santa I have to say was very kind.
I felt very spoilt having some extra prezzies to open up on Christmas day! One prezzie that really floated my boat and I was considering purchasing myself was some much needed Lancome face cream. Yes, sounds a bit boring but when you get to my age....well, you know what I mean ;) I had tried a sample of the night cream and I had just loved it. It felt suited to my skin but more than anything was like silk going on. Think this shall be my forever cream and I have my mum to thank for that lovely prezzie!
She also treated me to some lovely candles, and vintage style rose melts for the bath.
As I have mentioned above I am really enjoying this rose gold phase and it doesn't seem to be disappearing any time soon. I was delighted to open up this little package from the husband!
It really is pretty, a Michael Kors crystal circle pendant. I have found I can wear the sparkly side for evenings and the plain rose gold side for day wear. I love it.
It goes beautifully with some of my rose gold inspired pretties...
Here are some other lovely Christmas treats that came my way...
My brother got me the cute hottie pug, it comes with a microwaveable soothing lavender sachet inside and I've used it lots already. The lavender scent is just lovely and relaxing. He said he got it as he thought it looked a bit like our border terrier, Bertie.
I'm not sure Bertie agrees ;)
I have been a big fan of Lily-Flame for many years, in fact I don't think there is ever I time at home where we don't have a least one Lily-Flame candle burning. I just love their individual, pretty scents. My Daisy Dip was nearly all gone and one of my favourites, what a lovely surprise to have a replacement.
The Mindfulness book, also from the bro is very funny. Penguin released a set of 8 books with the same old fashioned illustrations but rather more modern subjects! The vintage style scrap book/photo album is another much loved gift.
Talking of that lovely Lily-Flame candle I found a lovely mini set just before Christmas, its called the Girly (Pink) Mini Set. So me and these are delicious just to look at.
Well, you can never have enough candles can you...
As for little treasured items I think this is my favourite, from the children.
And most useful gift I received...
Buying for teenagers can be quite difficult, but I knew that Miss. Poppins would love this retro styled Polaroid Camera. Oh dear, I couldn't help but get the pink, luckily she didn't mind..I hope she'll share it ;)
So, some lovely Christmas treats came my way. I do like a sale or two as well and as I had some money/vouchers I thought I'd have a little browse at the sales and see if there was anything I could find. Well as I was enjoying the lovely night cream my mum gave me I couldn't resist getting this set that included not only the day version of my night cream, but some little extras too. In the sale, and cheaper than it would have been to just get the cream on its own. Perfect buy and as is the night cream, the day cream is just as nice.
Now then, I am a woman who loves slippers, cosy, comfortable pretty slippers. My Ruby & Ed velvet bow ballerina slippers are my all time luxury slipper. They even had their own blog post
here and shall we say are quite well worn.
Ok, *very well worn.
*Ashamed face
I fell in love with them at first sight and have worn, and worn, and worn them. Can you tell, ha ha. I did have a little look online to see if I could get some new ones but as I had purchased these in a sale previously I couldn't really justify the expense, especially for just slippers. They do look and feel so luxurious though.
Well, well, well. Look what I found in the sale at half price from
The Lovely Room
Oh aren't they lovely. My new cosy slippers, and I really like the plum shade. The underneath look all new and everything.
(Note to self - do NOT go outside in said slippers)
So a Happy New Year to you and I'll leave you with a Home Bargains pretty I picked up, a lovely little desktop 2016 calender. Perfect to inspire me and a bargain at only 99p.

I have to admit I cannot walk past a Poundland shop without having a little wander in, just to see what bargains there may be in store. I always, always find something and yes all those pounds do add up, but I do find some really pretty treats. Well Poundland kind of cottoned on to this and asked if I would like to be one of their Ambassadors ?
"Oh yes I would" said I.
As an Ambassador I get to try out a selection of items from their seasonal ranges, and basically check quality, functionality etc. As we are nearing Christmas they asked me to check out their
Christmas range - I already had my eyes on their 'Enchanted' theme so knew I would love to decorate using some items from there as it's so pretty. I was gifted a £30 code to purchase the products online and which was great for me, all cosy and warm at home. The items arrived a few days later and here is how I got my home into the Christmas mood using some Poundland pretties..
First up is this amazing Sabichi 12 piece dinner set at only £8 though has an rrp of £21. I wanted to create a very snowy, winter white atmosphere in the dining area, with a little hint of pink and this set is just perfect. It is great quality and I love that it creates a blank backdrop for all the accessories.
Next some silver charger plates. These have a really lovely glittery effect and I got four as we are planning just to have us here for Christmas lunch, and then we'll venture out to visit family.
Now some pretty baubles to decorate the table - I always like to find alternative uses for things and these baubles are great value for money so I got four packs.
And some little heart shaped ones, again for the table.
Who can resist a little sweet treat after lunch, and oh my I just love these vintage Flying Saucers. I think they look very expensive in their pretty Christmas themed packaging and for only a pound a pack, well I had to get two packs didn't I.
And sticking with my white/silver theme, some white chocolate coins.
I am really getting into the Christmas spirit and love listening to Christmas songs at home, I can't wait to play this. So many songs for just £1.
Some silvery tinsel for the shelf.
I love the paper snowflakes Poundland do and had some left over from last year, I thought they would fit nicely into my theme. I also grabbed a couple of packs from in store.
I had to have the tinsel tree too, such a real bargain for £1.
And with my love of pink, I'm sure these pretties shall come in very useful on Christmas Day. I think the range of makeup/beauty products from Poundland is great, in fact one of my most favourite lipsticks is from there.
So, with the items selected, this is how I have incorporated some Poundland pretties into my Christmas décor.
The heart shaped baubles look really cute tucked into the garland for the table, especially with some 'Merry Christmas' lights draped along there too.
I think the baubles make a lovely centre piece piled high in the big glass vase.
And the tinsel tree taking pride of place on the tall chest of drawers I painted and distressed.
So, I hope you'll agree, you really don't have to spend a small fortune at Christmas to decorate your home, I am always thankful Poundland offer up some wonderful seasonal items and Christmas is no exception. I shall be back popping in there soon, and I'm sure I'll find something pretty to bring back with me.

Disclosure: I received a gift card to purchase seasonal items from Poundland for the purposes of this blog post. All words and opinions are my own.
Flamingo Gifts
23 Nov 2015 7:34 AM (9 years ago)

As it is fast approaching that time of year again, I like to start think about gift giving. One online store I just love and that offer some really pretty and unique gift ideas is
Flamingo Gifts After collaborating with Flamingo gifts before and being so impressed, I went on to purchase items from there and I have to say they have now become one of my favourite go to websites when it comes to shopping for pretties.
Their items are so up my street, and I have been sent three items to review in time for Christmas. One of my favourite brands is Wu & Wu and I adore this
deer cushion it is SO cute! The quality is excellent and a real show stopper. The bright colours really jump out at you and it's kitsch design gives it a wonderful sentimental feel.
I am very tempted to purchase the jewellery box as a gift for someone I know, they would just love it.
Another brand that brings a smile to my face is the very girly
Disaster Designs and this 'Songbird' Mini Satchel is a real beauty.
It's such a useful little bag with a long adjustable strap, buckle clasp, zipped closure and a little key zip pull.
The back is just as pretty.
It comes with a little postcard label, how pretty.
And of course being from Disaster Designs 'Songbird' range the lining of the bag features a wonderful musical score theme.
Now one could think opening up a tin of
plasters on Christmas day may not quite be a highlight, but when they are these beautiful and pretty Ouch! Daisy plasters I think even I would hope for a little scraped knee ;) They are possibly the prettiest plasters I have ever seen.
As well as a lovely Daisy and Sunflower design, there is an 'Oops A Daisy' and pink stripe design, just lovely. So some really great present ideas at Flamingo Gifts. I'm looking forward to putting my feet up with a creamy hot chocolate and having a good browse, I doubt very much I'll come away without some pretty gifts ending up in my cyber basket :)

Hello, today I thought I'd do a little round up of what Mary Poppins is up to these days...
When I first started this blog (back in the dark ages) it's main purpose was to log snippets of my family life, a bit of crafting, many makeovers, shopping for pretties etc, and has very much evolved into a kind of lifestyle type blog, a mixed bag and a bit of everything type blog. I'm quite happy to slot into this type and although sometimes I stumble along wondering where this blog is going, in reality it doesn't really have to go anywhere. I like to dip in and out and I am very humbled that anyone else would like a peak into my world too. So, what have we been up to?
Well, I am now the mum of a 14 year old, how on earth did that happen. Miss Poppins is growing up to be a typical teenager (almost permanently attached to her phone) though very mature for her years. If she ever reads this, I want her to know you make me very proud. And Mummy, yes I am still your Mummy, loves you very much :)
Master Poppins turned 9 in August, and definitely keeps me on my toes. He is very much enjoying his sports and as many boys do, loves football and plays for a local team each weekend. He was barely a toddler when I first started this blog and it has been wonderful, especially after his very premature birth and Pulmonary Stenosis which was treated as a baby, to see him grow up so well and healthy. I can't believe we shall soon be thinking of secondary schools, if I had my way he'd be in primary school forever.
I can nag at them when things don't get done, but it's good to take a step back and appreciate what you have, they shall always be my little bundles of joy.
I too have turned a year older and was greeted with this lovely image when I opened my front door on my birthday.
I fell in love straight away when I unwrapped the beautiful floral radio...it's from Aldi I hasten to add and was somewhat of a best seller. I love it and doesn't it go well with my Cath Kidston wallpapered chest of drawers.
I always advocate following ones dreams, and having made many a lavender heart with those very words on. I thought it was high time I followed my own advice and followed mine. So, with my love of acting I am now back on the creative path of going to classes again, networking and well, just following my acting dream!
Of course I am still loving the sewing and makeovers.
Lavender hearts shall always be one of my favourite things to make.
And my most recent little furniture makeover...
A tall chest of drawers that I purchased off a friend and knew I could do a little Mary Poppins makeover on. The storage is so useful and after a little Annie Sloan paint and distress now fits in perfectly with my décor.
I replaced the handles for some crystal knobs from Home Bargains, I think they add some lovely sparkle.
And as for any pretty shopping, well yes one or two little treats made their way home with me.
I adored this pink flamingo necklace...
And although you can't really see it all, the dog loves to cuddle up with me wearing my new furry hot pink cardigan.
Whilst in the body shop browsing their new seasonal ranges I was kindly offered some samples for myself and Miss. Poppins. I'm never normally afraid to ask for a couple of samples in store, so to be offered some was really sweet. The staff were ever so friendly and haven't they been packaged up beautifully.
That's my Christmas wrapping sorted thanks to M&S, so cute...
I'm afraid I am also one of those who like to bring in the Christmas cheer a little early. I couldn't resist these Santa Babies. Yum yum..
So, a little round up for you, shall catch up again very soon :)

Hello lovelies.
Today I thought I'd do a little catch up post with how my dining room makeover I did in collaboration with the Homebase #myway challenge is bearing up with family life. I posted the makeover here if you would like to have a little read. Often when I watch home makeover programmes on the television I wonder if the rooms stay the same when it comes to every day life. Well I can truly say our dining room is pretty much as I left it nearly 7 months ago. In fact the only area that has needed a little touch up is the floor, which after lots of feet passing through it, did get a bit grubby in places. A quick roll over with the floor paint and its looking back to its original sparkly white.

Occasionally we have the need for an extra couple of spaces at the dining table for guests, and I also remember I am a great hoarder of chairs and am still very much in love with our vintage chapel chairs. The chapel chairs are dotted around the house in various places, one I even painted up shabby chic style for the hallway.
I have left the other chairs in their original dark wood and draft two of them to the dining table when required. The dark wood does make a nice contrast against all the white/pink in there and creates some lovely warmth.
One celebration that is coming up and will indeed require many of those chapel chairs adding to the dining room table is the 14th birthday of Miss. Poppins - (where has the time gone I keep asking). She's hoping for a couple of friends to pop by for a sleepover and so no doubt will be wanting an array of healthy and the urmmm not so healthy teen food to tempt them at the table. Whilst on a recent visit to Homebase I grabbed a handful of pretty things that I thought would be nice for the dining room and a little celebration.
I have to say Miss.Poppins is very good at not peeking before the big day, I don't think I could resist!
I decided to move around a couple of the original Homebase items with some new ones for a little refresh, I have to say I just fell in love with this wire bird.
Actually I may go back for another one as I think they look really cute as a pair too.
I really liked these adorable tealight holders and very vintage looking I thought.
The silver stones create a little ambience to the room I think. Of course, I think there still has to be a little pink in any celebratory décor.
This lovely jingle bell heart would be a perfect decoration for Christmas too, I love it.
One item I found in Homebase and had to have was this photograph frame montage, I used some much loved wallpaper and wrapping papers for each frame (again with my much loved pink colour theme) and created a little display for on top of the dresser.
So, as you can see not too much has changed but with a handful of new key pieces it keeps the room fresh and updated. Yes, still lots of my coveted pink, but I think there shall always be a hint of pink in all the rooms of this house.
In fact, I'm really looking forward to creating a pink and white themed winter wonderland in there in time for Christmas!

Pretty Things
28 Sep 2015 5:12 AM (9 years ago)

I think I shall forever be a collector of pretty things. Although generally I am getting much better at de-junking, I just cant resist bringing new items into my home that make me smile. Being on the lookout for beautiful vintage pieces that don't break the bank is becoming ever difficult, though you can never tame a thrifter so I thought I'd share some of my recent pretties that really caught my eye, were fabulous bargains and I just love...
I don't frequent car boot sales as much these days but when I do I am more than happy to look and spend wisely. At my last car boot visit, I found some lovely items and that were all a bargain.
I know I shall find lots of use for this old fashioned bon bon jar. I think I'll pop some cotton wool balls inside and add a little ribbon for decoration for the bathroom.
I'm a big fan of vintage green glass and I just had to have this.
I also seem to have a thing for old trays, especially the metal types and I really liked this vintage serving tray. It's such a cute little size and for 50p you can't really go wrong in my book.
I really love it when any of my vintage finds have their original labels, even if the label itself is not in perfect condition. The tray is a Woodmet design. Here's a quote from an original advertisement.
"Genuine Woodmet ware items sparkle with lustrous beauty in a range of pastel shades. A gift for every occasion, a product for every home".
So a trio of bargains there. Next up and from another car boot sale I found this small selection of sweets, but not just your ordinary, everyday sweets, these delicious ones are made of glass. I think for the set of six I paid just £1 and they look so inviting displayed in a little glass dish.
The colours are lovely and I think Murano glass, almost good enough to eat.
Talking of lovely colours, I'm really enjoying creating a little collection of these vintage Observer books. Most come with their dust covers, but I prefer to pack those away safely and show off their colourful spines.
It really made me smile to see a very old postcard used as a bookmark in one of the little books. A real surprise.
It was sent to Alice from John, and judging on the date, is very old!
They are great little books, perfect for dipping in and out of for a little read of interesting facts. Definitely a collection I would like to grow. Again great bargains from charity shops/car boots at about 50p-£1 each.
More delight with these pearlised coloured flutes I picked up.
I still have little collections that I occasionally add too, one of which is vintage shot glasses. I just can't resist them and when I saw these of course I had to have them.
We all know I love pink, I love roses, so I had to purchase this little floral dish, perfect for my little pieces of jewellery and mini treasures.
Now Lexicon is a perfect card game to pick up as I love to make special words to hang as bunting on special occasions or even to frame. Made extra special that this is a vintage set.
Pink floral pretties always catch my eye and so it is no surprise that this floral half moon rug made its way home with me. After a little freshen up on the line it was looking even better.
The epitome of granny chic I'm thinking...
And talking of pretty roses, I couldn't leave these behind could I. Good old Aldi, the flowers I purchase from there last so well and these roses are no exception.
So as you can see pretty things are still making their way into my home, though it has to be said, there has been no breaking of piggy banks and items that I know shall all have their special little corner to be loved and used.

I really enjoy blogging about home interiors and when I was challenged by the
Oak Furniture Company to imagine styling a room in my home incorporating a product from one of their ranges, I knew straight away which room I would use for the challenge. Master Poppins, who is growing up far too quickly and is now at the grand old age of nine, is also getting to that age where the vintage style low bed I purchased some years ago just isn't cutting it for him any more. Something much, much cooler is required.
This is where I think the lovely
Aspen White painted furniture range from the Oak Furniture company would be perfect to give him a new very stylish pre-teen bedroom.
He already has the perfect seaside inspired wallpaper that would look great with the bright white Aspen bed.
Although his bedroom is an attic conversion, it currently is serving as a twin room with not one, but two of the vintage style beds in there and which proves very useful when guests stay over. Though having somewhat of a girly corner is not a look he wants when his mates come over. Luckily all things girl-related can be out by the time the boys arrive.
The after shave would have to stay though...
Yes definitely time for a new, more grown up bed I think.
So space wise, the Aspen White double bed would just fit in there, or even replacing the old beds in there with two of the Aspen single versions would look super.
Of course boys also tend to come with quite a bit of extra stuff, so just having the one single bed would leave him with a nice space for storage to put all that much needed (to him) stuff in. I can imagine his lovely Cath Kidston bed linen on this beautifully painted bed and of course the fresh white look is a classic style that in my opinion never dates and fits in perfectly with the traditional look I love so much. It is simple, sleek and also practical with a wipe-able satin finish. In fact I think he'd feel like a true prince sleeping in this grown up bed.
The timber used is from renewable forests so he'd be doing his little bit for the environment too. Oh I can just imagine it here looking mighty fine.
It's extremely adaptable and could be incorporated into many looks for a bedroom, and would be great for a teenage girl's room, a spare room for guests, and it would even sit very comfortably in my own bedroom amongst my shabby chic wares.
With the white flooring already fitted in Master Poppins' bedroom, adding this bright white bed would create a really crisp clean look and turn what is currently somewhat of a little boys bedroom, into a lovely grown up space perfect for his ever changing needs and it is definitely a forever bed that would look great in any of his future bedroom styles. The white bed would coordinate so well with his already red, white and blue scheme and fits very well with his seaside background.
We even have a lifebuoy that goes so well with his current look, and I also notice one also sits very well within the Aspen range imagery too. Great minds...
So, it looks like I'll have to sit down with my ever growing son and look into us perhaps saving some pennies and see if we can get him that much wanted grown up bed he so desperately wants.

Disclosure: This blog post was sponsored by and created in association with Tots100 and The Oak Furniture Company, all words and opinions are my own.

I love mood lighting, and if that lighting actually involves the word 'LOVE' then I'm hooked. I adore the light up signs often found at vintage, country style wedding's with words such as 'MR' and MRS' or 'LOVE'. There is definitely a flair of Hollywood glamour (I'm thinking those lovely dressing room mirrors) with the light up bulbs and I for sure would have them at my own wedding if I was getting married all over again.
When
Iconic Lights got in touch and enquired whether I would like to become a brand ambassador I jumped at the chance, I love to try out new, exciting products especially around a home decor theme and although on the face of it our 1960's home is quite 'average' looking from the outside, dressing up the inside is great fun. I really enjoy putting my own stamp on things and it always makes me happy when visitors say how they like the little corners of my home. As an Iconic Lights ambassador, I shall be getting involved with getting to know their products and how well they sit as a backdrop in my own home. Of course, there may even be that special light that takes centre stage.
As I have begun to learn more about Iconic lights, I have been really impressed with their quirky, up to date and also vintage style lighting. It must also be emphasised that the lights offer great value for money. I fell in love with this 'LOVE' shaped wall hanging
light and knew it would fit right in with my home decor. It is battery operated so super easy for moving around to different spaces should you wish. At £18 for this love light, I thought exceptional value and featuring a cluster of 20 warm led bulbs, it really pops out at you when it is turned on.
I also think it looks super stylish with the lights unlit in the daytime, and along with the flamingoes, creates a really cute vibe on my dining room shelf.
And then it isn't long before the big switch on...
So, I think it can be agreed I just LOVE the 'LOVE' light and its fair to say is very me. I am enjoying having a browse on the Iconic Lights website to see what other lighting they have on offer. Here's a bit of info about the company's story...
"Iconic Lights burst onto the e-lighting scene 3 years ago and hasn't looked back. It was founded alongside the LSE Retail Group offering high quality Iconic, Stylish, Innovative, Classic & Cutting Edge lighting designs at affordable prices. The guys behind LSE Retail found that there was a gap in the market for such high quality lighting designs, sold at affordable prices. Iconic lights appeals to the individual consumer looking for stylish lighting for their home as well as specialising in supplying interior designers, architects and developers with bespoke lighting designs for their own projects."

Oh I do love a pretty garden area for summer and was delighted to get involved with this lovely project for Wayfair's
Inspiration Page.
For the project I put together a tutorial for 3 separate DIY projects and enjoyed every minute of it. I even perfected my drilling skills and now feel confident to tackle those DIY tasks normally left for the man of the house to do, that in reality never get done, and that now I can happily do myself.
For my 3 projects I made a super handy garden bench, some floral bunting and a reversible table cloth. The bunting and table cloth were made from a gorgeous duvet cover so I am now thinking of my own unused covers that could be utilised in such a pretty way.
Those little fancies didn't last long but I managed to grab a quick snapshot of the pretty cut roses in one of my empty jam jars before they were gobbled up - the fancies that is, not the roses ;)
I loved the finished bunting, perfect for the garden fence.
The bench started off it's life looking something like this.
Then was transformed to this.
Using some pretty accessories as a beautiful backdrop my new garden space is just a delight to sit in.
My garden table and chairs got a new lick of paint too.
Here are some of the items I used to help me create that haven of floral prettiness.
You can head over to the Wayfair page and my DIY tutorial
here where you can have a mooch at the tutorials and the finished look :)

Well I do wish this dull, wet weather would disappear soon. I find it all a bit depressing and with no sunny summer holiday booked for myself, am hoping very much that the sun comes back to visit us soon. To cheer me up a little I thought I'd get on with a much over due project. I mention
here my fondness for the flamingo. In fact my fondness was so much that I fell in love with a pair of Don Featherstone flamigos I had bought.
After a while of them being in the garden and sadly being used as goal posts by my football loving 8 year old, their lovely long legs soon bent, broke, snapped, and eventually became no more. (inserts sad face)
They were then destined for the bottom of a dark lonely draw and the job of finding them some new legs went on my 'to do' list.
Well, after a long, long time in the draw, it was time for the flamingos to have their mini makeover.
I purchased 2 long metal rods from B&Q in readiness to cut each rod in half to make a pair of legs. I could tell they were getting excited at the prospect of having new dainty legs again.
The current holes for their legs were a little too small so after a little negotiation I made them a bit bigger to fit their new pins. You can see a before and after of the holes in this photograph.
Next up, legs in, and the lovely flamingo's are now back in action, albeit on a rather over grown lawn. Yippee...
I shall now be keeping a very close eye on my pretty flamingos next time the son decides to play some impromptu football in the back garden!!

Lovely Orchids
9 Jul 2015 7:13 AM (9 years ago)

Well hello on this very sunny day.
I love the sunshine and really enjoy delving into my summer wardrobe at this time of year. Dress wise, I am definitely a summer person and I especially like to grab all the colours of the rainbow to wear.
Take this lovely floral dress from good old M&S that I bought many years ago, I still wear it often and the hot pink lace really jumps out at you amongst all the pretty florals.
Talking of pretty florals, I also like to have the real things surrounding me and I was delighted to receive a surprise delivery of the most gorgeous selection of orchids. My looking after abilities with orchids can be, hmmm, lets say a bit hit and miss. I can have one orchid last me years and years, and another no matter how well I care and look after it, doesn't seem to bloom as well.
I know for sure these beauties are going to get my most bestest attention and I shall do lots of research for each variety. I found three pretty pots that weren't being used and I think they look great. Most orchids cope very well in small pots so I think they shall be fine in them for now.
First up we have the Dendrobium Starclass, with its bright pink flowers and yellow centre, which grows along the stem. I think it a very elegant and charming orchid.
Then we have the beautiful Oncidium which produces dozens of small flowers at the same time. Due to the distinctive shape of the blooms carried on many branched stems, akin to dancing sprays, its no wonder this orchid is also known as 'The Dancing Lady'.
Such a perfect sunshine yellow.
Finally, its the glorious twin stemmed Phalaenopsis orchid, a wonderfully sleek and graceful orchid and perfect for any shelf.
I think this has to be my favourite, perhaps it's all that lovely pink!
I have found a comfy place for the orchids inside and am keeping my beady eye on them. I may even be having a little chat with them on occasion, well they do say it helps and its been scientifically proven that plants respond to sound and it encourages growth, at least now I can't be given funny looks for talking to myself ;) X

Hello lovelies, long time no blog!
My creative/blogging mojo seemed to have wandered off there for a little while but has now returned with a happy vengeance. With having lots of crafty projects on my to do list, I thought I'd get cracking with this little mini-makeover. As I mention
here I was still yet to come up with a nice window treatment for the round windows in the attic bedrooms. I love the feature but just felt it needed finishing off somehow.
Well, after I had stumbled upon
this post, I thought as a pretty and perhaps temporary measure this would work. We have some square glass panes to go on all our downstairs doors, for some much needed light, so I thought at least it would be a practice run as I quite fancied this idea for the doors too.
I thought I would do Miss. Poppins' room and here is Master P's round window. Not sure he's going to go for the lace effect (bit girly) so may have to come up for another plan for him.
I thought the windows looked a bit dirty, so first off I gave them a good clean.
I purchased the pretty lace fabric at the bargain price of £1.50 a metre from Ikea.
I then made a template of the round window, which was a bit bit fiddly. I then used that to cut out the lace in a big circle which you can just about see here.
Then I gathered together my ingredients.
As with most tutorials I follow, I kind of found my own way, I used a little less than one and a half cups of boiling water and that felt to me like a good consistency. I was aware though I didn't really want any streak marks left behind of the glue mixture, which I do have a couple of in the finished look. Maybe next time I'd add more water to make it a little more runny.
Then it really was just a case of painting the mixture directly onto the glass.
Then I placed the lace over it and then repainted over it bit by bit. I really had no method and occasionally the lace came away, so I applied a bit more of the mixture in that area.
Soon the window was done, and although not really recommended for areas that get wet due to condensation issues and the lace possible falling away, I popped some on the round window in the little bathroom too. It dried perfectly and so far so good, we shall see how it fares. I love the fact it is temporary and that with just some hot water and a bit of a scrub it can come off, for now though, I think it's definitely a keeper :)
It gives just the right amount of screening, but still lets lots of light in and it looks pretty from the outside too.
Can't wait to get going on the door panes now!

Hello lovelies.
We have had a busy little Easter holiday and had some great fun, hope you may have too and one outing we really enjoyed and looked forward to, was going on the
Coronation Street Tour Being big Corrie fans we couldn't wait to go, even setting our alarms for an early start. I had been on the old Granada Studios Tour many years ago, I even went for an interview to be a guide - a perfect job for those 'arty' types. I was really keen to see how the Corrie set may have differed to my last mooch around, and the children, especially the youngest was really excited and couldn't quite believe he'd actually get to see the Rovers. Although the cast and crew have now moved over to a new location at Media City, it is super that there is still the opportunity to see the sets that had been used for so many years previously, and we all know those cobbles are infamous. The Kabin set can (for a short time) still be seen on current Corrie programmes due to filming in advance, so that fact was great to learn.
Our guide was David, a jolly and knowledgeable chap who was happy to answer any questions for Corrie fans as we were walking around. To keep things moving and out of respect to the other visitors, it is asked that photographs are not taken on the guided part of the tour. You can however have your photograph professionally taken behind the bar at the rovers and that can be purchased from the gift shop which is situated inside the medical centre set. I wanted everything to be a surprise so if you are planning on visiting, maybe take a peek after you've been.
The tour was started by our guide telling us all about the history of Coronation street and then explained we were actually sitting in their Green Room - a room where only the cast (no crew) were allowed to relax in. There is even a quiet room for those that want more of a peaceful rest. Along we went, past the old dressing rooms of the actors and actresses, and then on to see the wardrobe department and onto the interior sets. It really is fascinating to see it all, and everything looks a lot smaller compared to on the TV, the attention to detail is fantastic. I was really interested in seeing that the stairs in Gails house didn't actually lead anywhere, just six or seven steps with a little post on the end for the actor/ress who has just run up it, probably in a strop, to hold on to and then has to stay put till the end of the scene.
The Rovers interior set was brilliant, and we couldn't wait to get our snap from behind the bar!
Next we were taken around some more sets, I especially loved seeing the Kabin interior and it was just as fascinating seeing it when we got outside and actually onto the cobbles. Here's a little peek...
The most exciting bit for me was seeing the outside and the feeling of the cobbles on your feet, a real nostalgic moment for those of use who have been watching Corrie for years. Nicks Bistro is quite a new addition but still felt surreal standing outside it.
And of course, Roy's Rolls, what a treat actually being there :)
In my opinion, I think this is one of the most famous houses in the street.
And then there's Carla's posh apartment. Hard to believe its just a 'set' and not a proper apartment block.
Going behind the houses and through the alleyway was interesting too, as much of the filming action often took place in these areas over the years.
And who lives in a house like this?
I could not leave without getting a photograph outside this famous pub.
Whilst outside you were pretty much free to come and go, take as many photographs as you liked and could stay for a long as you wanted viewing the exterior sets. There are places to grab a drink and a bite to eat, and I can definitely recommend the takeaway chips :)
There was also a little mini tour from another enthusiastic guide for the outside 'sets' and we listened to some very interesting facts and there is much more to see. Soon it was time to have a mooch around the gift shop, which is actually in the old medical centre, still with its original signs inside.
(Courtesy of Tour Image Gallery)
How could we leave without a little treat or two, we purchased these items from the gift shop which was filled with some really fun and Corrie related items.
And a little something for a relative of ours who is in her 70's and the biggest fan ever! She would love the tour so I shall have to take her around especially as the tour is now extended into 2015.
So a very enjoyable tour and I would say perfect for any Corrie fan, but also, if like me, you are also interested in television and the media it is really interesting. Especially if one of your goals is to actually appear as an actor on the programme. Prices start at £15.50 for children (5-15), £16 for Students and Senior Citizens, Adults £17, and a Family ticket (2 adults, 2 children) is £60. Children under 5 with an adult go free. If you compare costings to many attractions it is in my opinion reasonable and the memories you'll take away with you last a life time.
So a definite thumbs up from me, we really, really enjoyed it!!

Disclosure: We gained complimentary admission to Coronation Street: The Tour for the purposes of this blog post. All opinions and words my own.

I love pretty, I love pink, so when
Flamingo Gifts sent this perfectly pink parcel of pretty delights for me to have a little play with, I couldn't wait to dive right in. Flamingo Gifts offers such lovely, cute and quirky items, including home accessories, party ideas, fun books and all manner of delightful things that one wouldn't normally find on the high street.
Although I had given a little hint to Flamingo Gifts as to what items may float my boat, I couldn't have imagined the gorgeousness of this pretty parcel. Whoever selected the items must secretly know me very well, as it really couldn't have been more pink.
I just adore this vintage style telephone, based on the famous princess style of the 1950's. Its a beautifully compact style and the pink is a lovely sugary shade, perfect for girly chats ;) It was so easy to set up, just pop the line in and then plug the other end into your telephone socket and away you go.
The bell ringer only adds to the charm, and the fact it is a push button means it is compatible with menu options, and which is super handy as most of the company customer services I ring often have about 9 different options to get through.
It has some great other features too.
I have a feeling this next product shall be making it's way into the teenagers room.
The make up bag is gorgeous :)) I love the magicians wand as the 'i' and the fluorescent pink is so on trend. My make up loving Miss. Poppins already has her eye on this so I doubt it shall ever get the opportunity to keep my make up in it, though I shall certainly be borrowing it every now and then.
I am a big lover of quotes and sayings around the home, and like to be inspired in every room I step in. I think this plaque says it all, and features all the pretty things I love, pink, hearts and bows.
A real bargain too at only £3.10.
I'm often out and about and like to grab a bite to eat from the house to take with me. Often its just chucked into one of the children's tatty lunch bags and away I go. Now I have something far more stylish and can be happy to pull out of my bag.
I love the quirky words on this lunch box and there is even a little cheeky "(no peeping)" once you have removed the black and white strap that keeps your lunch box in place. How cute is that.
The colours really pop out at you and although I'm not sure if my snacks shall always be very healthy, I am at least very proud to have such a beautiful lunch box to keep them in. I'll do my best to keep it more of the healthy variety.
At Flamingo Gifts there are also some great brands on offer, and finally we have a pretty pink item that again someone else has their eye on.
Although perfect for lunchtimes, I think this hot pink little number would also be great as a little storage holder for all those pretty bits and bobs, jewellery, clips etc. It would look so pretty on a shabby chic style dressing table.
The lunch box comes complete with two compartments and a beautiful elasticated band which has a Ted Baker gold bow. The elasticated band is really pretty and keeps everything secure inside. Once your lunch has been eaten, you can then pop the compartment back in and it closes to only 5cm, therefore taking up less space in your bag.
I think it may soon start to grow legs and wander off into the teens bag/bedroom very soon.
So, some really cute items on offer and if you haven't visited
Flamingo Gifts before I would definitely have a mooch. I have been overwhelmed by the pretty selection they sent and so impressed with the lovely treats, I had to make a little order. The 1p first class delivery was also very tempting and a great offer. Amongst a couple of other things I ordered, I loved this
case for our family ipad and at 50% off, a bargain.
So I shall certainly be making frequent visits to Flamingo Gifts, hope you find something pretty there too :)

Hello lovelies, I thought I'd share a nice little home makeover post with you today.
I am one who needs no encouragement when it comes to prettying up areas in my home and was delighted to take part in the
Homebase #MyWay makeover project. Many a room in my home needs a little TLC, however, there is one room that is not much more than an empty shell and definitely in need of a makeover. The room is the dining area, and I couldn't wait to get decorating.
Homebase has some great inspiration over at the
Project Centre and I enjoyed having a browse before starting my makeover. It is said that people on average spend £243 on updating their home decor and get much of that inspiration from online and offline friends, otherwise known as 'Friendspiration'. This encourages many of us to have a go ourselves, and without calling out the professional experts. For this makeover I did it pretty much all on my own (bar borrowing the husband for a bit of drilling and heavy duty sanding) so it can be done! On average, shoppers also spend 29 days researching ideas for the makeover. For my research I created a
Pinterest board and although my research took a lot less than the average 29 days, I did have quite a clear idea how I wanted the space to look.
So, it was that average amount of £243 (given in Homebase vouchers) that I was to spend on redecorating and updating the dining area. Now, I could have just given it a quick coat of paint and purchased some swanky new bits and bobs and voila, all done. But oh no, when I get stuck in, I get well and truly stuck in. Being somewhat of a thrifter, I really wanted to get as much as possible with that £243, and it took 3 Homebase visits to get all I needed. Here is my trolley on my first shopping expedition...
I was going to go my usual flowery self with the wallpaper but changed my mind as there really is quite enough floral-ness going on in this home. I loved there white brick effect wallpaper and knew it would be perfect, it has an almost 3D look and I only used up 2 rolls doing both walls. I did get an extra roll just to be sure, and it is always useful to have a spare in case of repairs and/or if the wallpaper gets discontinued. So at £12.99 a roll, I spent £38.97 on wallpaper.
I also spent a small amount on brushes and wallpaper adhesive.
As to the area itself, as I mentioned earlier it is well over due a makeover and getting involved in this project gave the the impetus to get motivated finally. The room had been stripped back previously and needed a little plastering in places. The area was looking not so much shabby chic, but just plain shabby.

You can see in the corner I had been playing with wallpaper samples so it was a work in progress to a degree, I just needed to get it finished. Once the walls had been cleaned with sugar soap to wipe off any grease, dirt and grit, it was time to get wallpapering. I have wallpapered before and wasn't really fazed, however I do think it is a two wo/man job as it can be somewhat fiddly getting the paper lined up etc. The first piece went up like a dream, however the next one I had a little obstacle in the way, namely the radiator and as I was not over enthusiastic abut removing it, found a very handy video that shared some great tips on wallpapering.
Do I get a gold star?
Possibly not the neatest job, but I'm hoping no-one is going take a nose at the back ;) Soon, I got in my stride and I was really liking the look of the wallpaper as it was going up.
Next, it was time to get painting the sideboard which was purchased off ebay many years ago and for a song. I decided to try out
Rust-oleum furniture paint in
Dusky Pink and
Chalk White both priced at £12.99 and I have to say I was very impressed.
I used the 'Dusky Pink' for the sideboard and 'Chalky White' for the chairs and table legs. I found the 4 chairs in a skip a very long time ago (I did ask if it was ok to take them) and here is what they looked like before I painted them.

I decided to make a start on the sideboard and I think the pink colour looks great against the white arty wallpaper. I didn't want too matt a finish, so I gave it a slightly white washed look and which I think gives it some character.
Even though I had decided the floorboards were going to be painted white, they really weren't in very good condition, and as there are floorboards elsewhere in the house to clean up, decided to try out a floor sander for the weekend. One thing I learnt was that sanders weigh a tonne! Anyway am glad we did sand the floorboards first as I think the paint went on so much easier. Here they are prepared and ready to be painted after the sand.
It was certainly good practice for when we come to use the sander again for the other floorboards. After painting the skirting boards I then used white paint to freshen up the walls and ceiling. I couldn't resist a little play to see which corner I was going to display the plant
I had purchased.
The paint we used for the floor was
Ronseal Diamond Hard White floor paint priced at £31.99 for a 2.5L tin. I applied it with a long handled roller which saved lots of time and it dried really quickly. It gives the space a lovely fresh, airy feel to it.
I was desperate to get the pretties in and had purchased some lovely accessories from Homebase, however I was a good girl and waited for the floor paint to harden. I also wanted (with the help from husband) to put a shelf up. I did display the pretty frames and which I thought a bargain at only £5.29 each. I used some of a sample wallpaper for the background and that I also incorporated in the sideboard. I then popped a cut out heart shape inside each frame from my favourite fabrics.
I love the hanging family sign!
Nearing the finish line, my poor thumbs were definitely feeling it.
Time to get the chairs finished.
I decided to pop a little cushion on each chair that I already had and attached with some ribbon. I love the 'Smile' quote.
It was all coming together and I could finally put my purchased pretties in place. Some of my favourites were the oh so cute squirrel and I couldn't leave the gloss white stag behind either. I love candlelight at tea time and thought the new tea light holders perfect for the makeover.
So here is the room after my makeover and I have to say I love it.
*Many photographs coming up alert*
As it's coming up to Easter, I had to dig out the twiggy tree.
The laugh tea light holders look lovely lined up and the glass jars are perfect for displaying the tea lights.
Yum! Little sweet biscuits are definitely one of my favourite things :)
I chose a natural straw runner for the sideboard and matching table mats for the table, I think they add texture to the look of the room.
This glass vase came home with me too, perfect for displaying fruit.
I thought this hanging sign just perfect against the brick effect wallpaper.
Another pretty candle, and it coordinates beautifully with the set of 3 rose canvases displayed behind.
The squirrel and stag look perfectly at home.
This is one of my favourite children's books, and it had to have a special place too.
Tea lights at tea time...
Time to eat...
I really hope you enjoyed your little tour of our newly decorated dining area, quite a difference don't you think, perhaps you've been inspired to pick up the paint brush? I hope so. I felt so depressed and uninspired in the old room as it was and now feel so much cheerier walking in.
I was very impressed with Homebase as not only was I able to purchase the basics, like paint, wallpaper, brushes etc, but they also offer some fantastic home accessories and in my opinion at great prices. I was able to really fill my trolley with the £243 budget. Of course, some things I already had, but I always aim to recycle as much as I can rather than buy new all the time.
Now to enjoy it!!
