National energy firm is a finalist in two categories
Edison, NJ, October 6, 2020 – CS Energy, LLC, a leading integrated energy firm that designs and builds optimized projects in the solar, storage and emerging energy industries, has been named a finalist in the S&P Global Platts Global Energy Awards, an annual program recognizing exemplary corporate and individual innovation, leadership and superior performance. The 2020 finalists, chosen from some 300 nominated entries from over three dozen countries, were just announced by program host S&P Global Platts, the leading independent provider of information and benchmark prices for the commodities and energy markets.
CS Energy is a finalist in two categories: Construction Project of the Year and Engineering Solution of the Year. In both categories, CS Energy has been nominated for its Amesbury Landfill Solar + Storage project. The 4.5 MWdc solar plus 3.8 MWHr storage project is located entirely on the Titcomb Pit Landfill in Massachusetts, which provided irregular conditions and required innovative solutions to overcome. Despite gas vents, limited space, and rigorous standards required to build on top of a landfill, CS Energy’s experienced project management team was able to complete the project four weeks ahead of schedule and under budget.
“The Amesbury Solar + Storage project is a stellar example of how previously untenable space such as a landfill can be converted into a productive green-energy-generating field, and exemplifies exactly how CS Energy operates,” said Matthew Skidmore, CEO of CS Energy. “We aren’t afraid to innovate, collaborate, and continually reassess in order to provide the best possible solution for our client. I am proud of our team and the recognition that this meaningful project has already earned.”
Established in 1999 and often described as “the Oscars” of the energy industry, the S&P Global Platts Global Energy Awards highlight achievement in in 21 categories spanning the entire energy complex. Winners will be selected from each corresponding group of finalists by the Global Energy Awards’ independent panel of judges and announced at the live-streamed Global Energy Awards Virtual Gala on December 10th. Energy Company of the Year will be chosen from the entire list of finalists, regardless of original category.
“The Global Energy Awards, nominations and finalists continue to reflect the evolution of the industry, highlighting technology innovations, as well as accelerated focus on energy transition to a lower-carbon environment,” said Martin Fraenkel, president, S&P Global Platts. “Innovation, resolve and transformation were characteristic throughout this year’s applications and each of the finalists and nominees are to be congratulated for their accomplishments.”
Emmy and Tony award-winning actor and comedian Jason Alexander (Seinfeld’s “George Costanza”) will emcee and entertain at this year’s Global Energy Awards program. Visit https://youtu.be/NwN8FxgAYnk to watch Alexander’s engaging and irreverent Global Energy Awards preview.

Ranked 7th in Medium Companies by NJBIZ
Edison, NJ, September 23, 2020 – CS Energy, LLC, a leading integrated energy firm that designs and builds optimized projects in the solar, storage and emerging energy industries, has been named one of NJBIZ’s Best Places to Work in New Jersey for 2020. The newspaper ranked CS Energy seventh in the Medium Companies category (50 – 249 employees).
The nominees were selected based on confidential employee surveys. CS Energy’s employees described and rated several factors that ultimately drove the company’s placement on the list, including providing paid time off for volunteer work, allowing flexible work schedules, and offering parental leave for both men and women. Respondents also mentioned enjoying various team-building events that the company sponsors on a regular basis. CS Energy’s focus on safety is a large part of its success, as the company provides safety incentives for going above and beyond in the workplace and includes a full day of safety training during the weeklong employee onboarding process.
“This award came as a result of our staff’s responses,” shared Matthew Skidmore, CEO of CS Energy. “Our employees are the ones who feel that CS Energy is a great place to work, and that makes all of the efforts we put into our programs and initiatives worth it. That’s also what makes this award so important to us: it’s honest, positive feedback from our employees.”
Being named one of New Jersey’s Best Places to Work comes at a time of strategic growth for CS Energy. The company expanded its team by 20 percent in 2019 and plans to continue its growth in 2020 and beyond. The team has completed several major solar projects this year, including the largest solar plant in New Jersey. CS Energy has been adding employees throughout 2020 and is currently hiring in several fields: https://www.csenergy.com/careers/.
While this is CS Energy’s first time being listed by NJBIZ as a top place to work as a standalone company (previously participated as part of The Conti Group), this is not the first time that the firm has received recognition for its employee programs. CS Energy received a Governor’s Certificate for its employee safety record in the Governor’s Occupational Safety and Health Awards Program earlier this year, and in 2019 the company received a Division of Public Safety Certificate – Citation of Merit from the State of New Jersey, Department of Labor and Workforce Development, for its accomplishments in the prevention of workplace injury and illness. The final rankings from NJBIZ were announced September 17, 2020. For more information, visit https://njbiz.com/2020s-best-places-work-nj-ranked/.

National EPC energy firm, majority owned by funds managed by Ares Management Corporation, achieved significant milestone in August 2020
Edison, NJ, August 26, 2020 – CS Energy, LLC, a leading integrated energy firm that designs and builds optimized projects in the solar, storage and emerging energy industries, announced today that it has reached a major milestone: completing the installation of 1 gigawatt of solar energy projects.
The 1 GW achievement puts CS Energy in a distinguished category. According to Solar Power World’s Top Solar Contractors* rankings, fewer than 10 EPCs have installed 1 GW of solar as of 2020, but with CS Energy’s consistent 20 percent annual growth rate, the milestone was reached quickly. The company closed 2018 with 650 MW of completed solar projects and ended 2019 with 820 MW. In 2020, CS Energy reached 1,000 MW, despite industry contractions resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic.
“This is an incredible milestone, and one only possible because of the hard work and dedication of our team,” shared Matthew Skidmore, CEO of CS Energy. “I am so proud of our talented workforce, which has completed CS Energy projects to the highest standards of quality and safety across the country. We’re excited to put our deep experience to work for our clients as we begin installing the next gigawatt.”
CS Energy has completed nearly 200 solar projects across 16 states, in a mix of utility-scale solar projects and energy storage projects. Much of the 1 GW has been completed in the last three years as the firm manages increasingly larger projects, such as a recent 29 MW solar project in New Jersey. The growth coincides with funds managed by the Infrastructure and Power strategy of Ares Management Corporation taking majority ownership of the company in 2018.
“We made a strategic investment in CS Energy knowing the firm had the capabilities to expand its impact on renewable energy projects across the country,” shared Keith Derman, Partner and Co-Head of Ares Infrastructure and Power. “We are thrilled that CS Energy has been able to achieve such a substantial milestone and consider it a testament to the company’s legacy of experience and reliability.”
The 1 GW accomplishment comes as CS Energy garners additional recognition from the solar industry. CS Energy was named the nation’s number-one commercial solar installer in 2019 by global research firm Wood Mackenzie. With more than 10 percent of the U.S. market share, CS Energy installed as much as the second- and third-ranked companies combined. In 2020, CS Energy once again made Solar Power World magazine’s annual list of Top Solar Contractors, ranking in the Top 10 for national EPCs, and as the #1 solar contractor in both New York and New Jersey.
Additionally, the company utilizes its expertise to lead a variety of solar industry subsectors. CS Energy is considered an expert in landfill solar installations, having installed more than 160 MW on top of closed capped landfills. CS Energy is also on the forefront of Solar + Storage projects: the company has installed more than 135 MWh of energy storage projects and is ranked as the #2 Solar + Storage installer in the nation by Solar Power World.
Starting with just 12 employees in 2004, the company has grown to a highly skilled team of more than 160 people. CS Energy began in the solar industry as part of The Conti Group, a construction and engineering firm that has been operating for more than 115 years. Building on the organic success in the solar industry, the group branched out into Conti Solar, a wholly owned subsidiary of The Conti Group, in 2017. Conti Solar was majority acquired by funds managed by the Infrastructure and Power strategy of Ares Management Corporation in 2018 the company rebranded as CS Energy.
“CS Energy is thriving from the roots planted at The Conti Group—roots in skilled construction, quality customer service, and an educated leadership group. It’s been a pleasure to see CS Energy deliver on our shared vision of creating a nation-leading integrated energy company,” said Kurt Conti, Chairman of the Board of The Conti Group.

Three utility-scale sites interconnected with two separate utilities
McLennan County, one of the three Texas sites completed by national EPC CS Energy
Edison, NJ, June 30th, 2020 – CS Energy, LLC, a leading integrated energy firm that designs and builds optimized projects in the solar, storage, and emerging energy industries, has successfully completed a portfolio of solar projects in Texas. At 32.7 MWdc, the portfolio will generate enough renewable energy to power more than 5,000 homes each year.
The Texas portfolio is comprised of three separate properties: a 14.5 MW project located in Brooks County; a 7.3 MW site in McLennan County; and a 10.9 MW project in Menard County. 500 miles separate the three sites, which were developed simultaneously. The Brooks County project utilizes Sunfolding racking and the other two sites utilize Array Technologies trackers. CS Energy provided engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) services for all three sites and successfully managed the project schedules to ensure the portfolio was delivered on time.
CS Energy has built nearly one gigawatt of projects across the country, and this is the company’s largest project in Texas to date. The team worked directly with individual landowners to address intricate issues like fencing, and while a harsh environment, distant locations, and supply-chain constraints upped the level of complexity of the portfolio, CS Energy’s experienced leadership was able to overcome each obstacle.
“As a national EPC, it’s imperative that our solar projects meet our rigorous standards no matter the conditions,” said Matthew Skidmore, CEO of CS Energy. “I’m proud that we have met the challenges of this multifaceted project and am pleased to deliver a solar energy portfolio that will make clean energy more accessible for the residents and businesses of Texas.”
The Texas solar projects provide power directly to two separate utilities, with the McLennan and Menard County sites supplying energy to Oncor Electric Delivery and the Brooks County site delivering solar power to AEP Energy.

National EPC delivers complex solar plus storage project in just four months
Edison, NJ, June 23, 2020 – CS Energy, LLC, a leading integrated energy firm that designs and builds optimized projects in the solar, storage and emerging energy industries, announced its successful completion of a 4.5 MWdc solar project installed with a 3.8 MWh lithium-ion storage solution on a landfill cap site located in Amesbury, Massachusetts. The largest solar plus storage system to be completed to date is part of a partnership between the City of Amesbury and Kearsarge Energy, an award-winning New England based renewable energy developer and financier who is actively building out its energy storage portfolio.
With close to 1 GW of solar installed to date, including over 160 MW of landfill solar installations, CS Energy is a leading engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) company. The organization is ranked in the top 20 Solar Contractors in the US by Solar Power World and named the #1 commercial solar installer by Wood Mackenzie with leading market share in Massachusetts, New York and New Jersey. This project was one of the first solar plus energy storage projects to participate in the Solar Massachusetts Renewable Target (SMART) Program.
“CS Energy has a significant market share in the solar-plus-storage business. We are strategically scaling up our energy storage division and growing our register of successfully completed projects,” shared Sean Harrington, Director of Energy Storage of CS Energy. “Our background and experience in landfill solar enable us to foresee challenges and expedite projects. It’s another testament to our energy storage team’s capabilities and dedication.”
“As the owner and operator of the Amesbury landfill project, it was critical that Kearsarge Energy partner with a sophisticated and experienced EPC firm capable of navigating the complexities of landfill solar projects,” said Andrew the Bernstein, Managing Partner of Kearsarge Energy. “CS Energy’s reputation and extensive experience in this specific field, along with its commitments to quality and safety, made the project an unequivocal success.”
CS Energy is a market leader with over 130 MWh of energy storage projects installed or underway in four states. Designing and constructing the Amesbury solar plus storage system required experience in building projects within the allowable limits of the cap design, as well as with the allowable limits of the Department of Environmental Protection’s (DEP) Post-Closure Use Permit (PCUP). The firm’s advanced capabilities and extensive onsite overview enabled the project to meet critical PCUP requirements, including not exceeding the 7-psi ground pressure limit for all activities on the landfill cap. Each construction activity, delivery, and the battery energy storage system was evaluated and designed by CS Energy and approved by an independent engineer for DEP compliance. The result of these efforts is a well-designed solar-plus-storage system that will generate clean, renewable energy (from a previously unusable site) for decades to come.

This Project provides 28.5MW of clean, renewable energy
Edison, NJ, May 18, 2020 – CS Energy, LLC, a leading integrated energy firm that designs and builds optimized projects in the solar, storage and emerging energy industries, has successfully completed the largest solar project in New Jersey. The project owner, Ben Moreell Solar Farm, LLC and Department of the Navy (DON) executed a lease for approximately 170 acres of underutilized land for the purpose of constructing a 28.5 MW ground-mount project located at Naval Weapons Station Earle (NWS Earle) in Tinton Falls. CS Energy designed, procured and installed the power plant, creating a custom worksite that allowed for a streamlined construction process while still maintaining the base’s high security standards. CS Energy’s team of local workers safely installed an impressive 4,000 solar panels each day at the height of construction. Currently, the second phase of the project is underway. As in-kind consideration, CS Energy will install a separate behind the meter solar system that will connect directly to the NWS Earle utility grid, providing DON with renewable energy to support operations.
As part of the Navy’s energy resiliency initiative, the Ben Moreell Solar Farm on NWS Earle was established. Owned by Vitol Green Holdings LLC, a subsidiary of global energy and commodities company Vitol Holdings B.V., the solar project will be tied directly to the local utility grid. In case of emergency, and with further investment, the clean power plant can be modified to power the base, which has a combined workforce of more than 1,500 civilian, military and contractor personnel.
“With close to 1 GW of solar capacity installed worldwide, CS Energy is a proven partner for delivering solar power projects that maximize use of the terrain while offering high levels of output,” said R. Andrew de Pass, Head of Renewables for Vitol Inc. “Their attention to safety, efficiency and customer service enabled us to deliver the NWS Earle project in record time.”
CS Energy’s efficiency stems in part from its deep experience with designing and building solar and storage projects on U.S. military bases. The NWS Earle plant is one of the firm’s largest; in total, CS Energy has installed more than 80 MW of solar energy projects on U.S. bases across the globe.
“Having access to reliable, sustainable and renewable sources of energy, like solar power, helps our Navy improve our energy security, operational capability, strategic flexibility and resource availabilities,” said Capt. Pierre A. Fuller, Commanding Officer, NWS Earle. “We are equally pleased this is the largest solar project in the state, to date, and it contributes to New Jersey’s Energy Master Plan.”

The company has over 22 community solar projects totaling more than 44 MW in operation or currently in construction in the US.
“Our team embeds its high-quality control standards in every step of a solar project’s value chain, and that investment yielded a seamless launch of operations for Middleborough. MGED has foresight to deliver non-greenhouse gas emitting energy options to their customers, and they did an excellent job implementing the Community Solar Program,” said Candice Michalowicz, Co-founder and Managing Member of C2 Energy Capital.
“MGED is pleased to work with developers, such as C2 Energy Capital, to increase renewable energy resources in the region,” said Jacqueline Crowley, General Manager, MGED.
C2 Energy Capital’s community solar project sits on 15 acres of former farmland. As a part of the MGED Community Solar Program, it allows customers who want to support locally produced clean energy, but aren’t able to install solar panels on their own home or business, the opportunity to share in the benefits of a large solar system installed within MGED’s service territory. Pilot Project’s Success in
Jacksonville, Florida Clears the Path for Vegetation Management by Sheep
New York, New York, July 30, 2019 – C2 Energy Capital, LLC, a
rapidly growing investor in renewable energy and storage assets, is scaling up
its solar sheep program for vegetation maintenance after a highly successful
pilot program launched at a Jacksonville, Florida solar power generation site. The
7-MW solar project is one of the power suppliers for JEA’s SolarMax program
aimed at offering more clean energy options to its commercial customers. C2
Energy Capital expects to reduce its vegetation maintenance costs across its
land-based solar power plants through the new program. Additional benefits of
C2 Energy Capital’s solar sheep program include providing new economic
opportunities for regional sheep farmers and further lowering the company’s
carbon footprint. The company expects to rollout the new program across ten solar
projects totaling over 79 megawatts.
“JEA appreciates the ongoing pursuit of supporting local economies
while lowering our collective carbon footprint and overall costs, so C2 Energy
Capital’s solar sheep program fits well with our principals and goals,” said
Steve McInall, JEA, VP of Energy and Water Planning.
In early 2018 C2 Energy Capital began the test program with a
regional sheep farmer to control ground vegetation on the site. Between 80 and
100 sheep graze the solar farm daily. The committed sheep crew work, eat
and sleep on the site 24 hours a day.
Due to its more rural location, the sheep are protected by a Great
Pyrenees guardian dog who lives among the flock.
“In the next phase, we’ll scale up
our solar sheep program to projects covering over 300 acres in three states and
drive down ground maintenance costs. It’s a win-win situation that makes good
business sense for everyone involved,“ said Michael Howell, Director of Asset
Management for C2 Energy Capital.
C2 Energy Capital is also currently in a test program with site
vegetation management through the use of wildflower plantings to limit mowing
while providing excellent pollinating habitat for insects - particularly bees
whose population decline is widely reported in the media.

Solar power energy
delivers emissions-free electricity that helps reduce Greenhouse Gases (GHG). GHG
are major contributors to global warming and climate change. As of 2018, there are
over 64,000 megawatts of solar installed in the US or enough solar to power a
population the size of Connecticut, Massachusetts and Rhode Island combined.
The solar industry employs over 242,000 Americans and the amount of solar
installed per year has doubled almost every year since 2010. The continuous
adoption of solar energy has helped to drive down its cost and, today, solar is
one of the lower-cost energy solutions available.
Construction is
currently underway, and the Tobacco Valley solar project is scheduled for
completion in 2019. In all, the project is expected to generate enough energy
to power 6,800 homes and create over 300 construction jobs.

This significant milestone marks a proud accomplishment for the C2 team, which has grown from two partners to 20 employees. With an additional 300 MW of assets in development, the Firm’s exponential growth in just four years is a testament to the company’s ability to move quickly and produce results.
“The decline of installation cost and support of state-level programs for a clean-energy future create economic growth opportunities for communities and investment opportunities for funds like ours," said Candice Michalowicz, Co-founder and Managing Member of C2. “While the sector matured, the complex capitalization of these assets and safety requirements underscores the critical need for developers and investors to partner with subject-matter experts like C2 to ensure that these projects are built to last. Our decades of experience have positioned us for this very moment.”
“C2’s portfolio grew over the last four years because of relationships with developers. We believe that development is a local business, driven by boots-on-the-ground knowledge, experience, and relationships,” added Richard Dovere, Co-founder and Managing Member of C2. “The Firm is now formalizing that effort with the creation of our ‘Developer-in-Residence’ (“DiR”), which provides capital for developers to fund day-to-day overhead expenses and development costs while leveraging the brand, balance sheet and expertise from the C2 team to bring projects over the finish line.”
Developers interested in the DiR program are encouraged to contact us through our website at www.c2.energy/dir. The Firm is actively seeking partners with mid-to-late development stage solar, wind and storage projects who are looking to partner with capital.
