Website and Blog changes 22 Apr 2012 1:23 PM (12 years ago)

Hi

As well as the exciting news that the P-47 has flown this weekend along with a first flight this year for the Corsair we have pushed the button and now have a new website and new diary. This is a bit like moving into a new house, most things are here along with new updated features. We have more to add but needed to be up and running to share the new features. You may need to refresh your browser to find www.fighter-collection.com (the pages bit has gone!) A few house keeping points, if you find something doesn't work or seem right email us at help@fighter-collection.com. Currently the new diary doesn't talk to facebook and twitter - it will but at present we will just give you a nod on FB when something is posted. We will leave the old blog as is - new posts from today will appear in the new diary section of the main site. We know the new diary is loading slowly and aim to speed that up. When browsing around there are a few goodies - try the Corsair or P-47 pages. Thanks for supporting us and see you on fighter-collection.com.

A Worthwhile Post 18 Apr 2012 1:26 PM (12 years ago)

Greg, who  often provides us with  "out of the  office window" pics for the  blog reminded me  his son is  doing a very worthwhile  swimathon.  You can find the  details of how to support  him  here:
http://my.artezglobal.com/personalPage.aspx?registrationID=368710&langPref=en-CA

As  this is  one of our  last posts  here  before we imminently launch  our  new  website and diary this  seemed an extremely worthwhile way   to finish and  wind down   the current  blog and to help support a  good cause.

New arrivals in Hangar 2 1 Apr 2012 8:41 AM (13 years ago)

Friends of TFC today  presented  the volunteers at TFC with  a  new  access platform to help with cleaning and maintenance around  TFC aircraft.

At the same   time aircraft enthusiast Micheal Williams whose  company  produce a vacuum cleaner  known as the  Big Brute  turned  up with   a  machine that proved  just the  job to smarten up  the aircraft.

The  combination  proved  so popular that  there was   nearly a queue to have a  go at wing cleaning.  Something that has  not  happened  before!

Diary Sunday 25th 25 Mar 2012 10:48 AM (13 years ago)

We  are  changing our  reports  to a   diary format in preparation to  the change of  the TFC website.

This  means we will be giving you regular updates , not only of  aeroplane items  but  also to  give an idea of some of the other goings on at Hangar 2.

So today along with routine  drip tray  cleaning and chock hunting in the  hangar we took the  opportunity to  update  volunteers  in our training programme  - this time with  some  competitive tractor  driving manoeuvres.  It is important that  as  many of  our  team of volunteers are  skilled in ground handling as possible with updates  prior to the  airshow  season.  A true  illustration of the  12  month a year  commitment our  volunteers have to  helping the regular team of engineers at  TFC.

Prizes  awarded  today  were  Jack  - most innovative  use of Reverse  gear  and most improved  operator, Shaun, slickest   and Ken, coolest operator.

Nest  post  might include some aeroplane  news.

FofTFC Event report 12 Mar 2012 4:47 AM (13 years ago)

OK, Rob Scott  has  scurried  back  from Boots and getting his  film developed.

After a  glorious  afternoon the evening started with a reminder of  the roots of  "Friends  of TFC" 22  years ago by Fighter Log and long term volunteer Ken Gray.

Then we  moved  up a  gear  literally  with Robin Richardson part of the  original Thrust  SSC team, who provided a gripping presentation  with many pictures  from his own  collection of a unique achievement.

This was quickly  followed  by Jim Mackonochie taking us  through the history of flight  simulation in the professional  and gaming world - right  up to a  demonstration by Chris  Ellis of the  virtual Red Arrows  viewing the  soon to  be  released TFC  P51  flight  simulaton.

Time then for a  breath of outside  air, Brian Smith at the  controls of  EP120

Then the raffle with the 1st  prize  of a  Gold Pass, The  Prize winner  seen here   talking to Neville Williams one of our  guests for the  evening who  was also an ex Sea Fury pilot.

The evening finished off with  a  night shoot of   the Bearcat, Spitfire Mk V, and P-47.- I'm sure we will see  a  few  more pictures very  soon.  Thanks again to  Rob for the  photo diary of the  evening.

More announcements about the TFC Event and presenters 29 Feb 2012 10:58 AM (13 years ago)

OK, Not a day  goes  by  at  TFC at the  moment without  something happening - yesterday we  received  Steve's excellent trailer for  Flying Legends.

Today I received a  call from Neville  Williams our  guest  speaker  and ex Sea Fury pilot.  If all goes well and this  really is  one of those  fingers  crossed moments we will have  two  ex Sea Fury pilots  talking and reminiscing over their  memories of the  Sea  Fury.  This is  not  by any means certain but we are willing it to  happen!

We also  hope to  be able to provide  a  static photo opportunity in the dusk of a  very  special TFC aircraft and the plans to  have another  TFC aircraft run up are  looking good - big thanks to hte  engineers who are  fettling away on this  bit of the  evening.

Finally, it isn't too  late to submit a question  for our  presenters or even to  grab a last  minute  ticket there are  just a  few left.  You can only book online  now  and until the  weekend for this  very  special week end.  Tickets click HERE
