It's back to school time here... and you know what that means? Packing lunches for my littles. I was so excited when Santa Cruz reached out to me and asked me if I'd be interested in trying out some of their products! If you know me, then you know that eating local and organic foods is high on my list of priorities!
I was sent a 4 pack of apple sauce in a squeezable pouch, a jar of strawberry fruit spread, and a jar of peanut butter!
This is what I received:
I cannot tell you how yummy they were! They are awesome! My kids loved them even more! I really appreciate that their peanut butter had no added sugar. Ingredients 'organic roasted peanuts, *may contain 1% or less of salt.'
I sent the applesauce with my 4 yo to preschool. It is so easy for little ones to open and eat! No need to send a cup of applesauce with a spoon (which never makes their way home to me anyway)!
Santa Cruz offers a wide variety of awesomely organic products. To see what all they have to offer, visit their
website. Oh and you may also want to check out their
'recipe' page for a list of delicious recipes!!
Santa Cruz has generously offered one of you the chance to receive these same items I received (open to residents of the US only)!

I am so thrilled to introduce to you my latest
obsession I mean go-to diaper!!
TOTS BOTS!
Now I may be partial to this diaper because it's made in the UK (Scotland to be exact) and my father was born in England. Or maybe it's the absolutely adorable prints that these diapers come in
These are the new prints ^^ that have come out in the new V4 version!
The diapers pictured below are a part of their 'story book collection' and come in the older (V3 version)! If you are stateside, you can still get the V3 version (I saw a few in snaps only) from retailers such as
Thanks Mama!
Or perhaps it's the way these diaper work, the high quality of production, or maybe it's a matter of all of the above combined!
Tots Bots has a few different versions of their diapers to choose from. There is the
TeenyFit (which is an all in one (AIO) diaper designed to fit babies from 5-12 lbs; the
EasyFit (also an AIO), and a one size diaper, designed to fit babies from 8-35 lbs; and lastly the
Bamboozle. The Bamboozle is a stretchy bamboo fitted diaper, which comes in two sizes. Size one designed for babies weighing from 6-18 lbs and size 2 designed for babies weighing 9-35 lbs! Tots Bots also offers swim diapers and training pants!
The new TotsBots easy fit V4 has a bamboo, cotton and minky blend fabric booster!
Here is some more information on this diaper (taken from the
TotsBots website):
The perfect daytime nappy
- Pop in booster comes as standard for increased absorbency.
- Fast drying.
- Integral waterproof outer means there is no need for a separate cover.
- Hook & loop fasteners enable quick and easy changes.
- Wrap-around stretch for ultimate comfort and fit.
- Super absorbent bamboo interior is so soft next to baby’s skin.
- Made in Scotland.
- Fits from 8lbs to 35lbs.
- Oekotex certified.
I was thrilled to have been sent the brand new V4 TotsBots "binky" in the Hickory Dickory Dock print in hook and loop closure! For those of you that have been a reader of my blog for any amount of time, know that I am a
DIE HARD snaps (poppers) girl!! Read on to find out what I discovered while using this diaper!!
This is what I received:
This print is so much more vibrant and rich in real life!!
Clocks, and mice and cheese!!! When I was stationed in Germany... I flew home for Christmas the first year I was there and I bought my parents a cuckoo clock from the Black Forest! It was awesome! This diaper kind of brings back memories of that!
The inside of the diaper:
A good look at the print!
Ok, here is the inside. It is indeed an all in one diaper with a pocket near the back that you stuff the inners into! As you can see in this picture, the snap in soaker which is bamboo, cotton, minky blend (aka binky) fabric gives this diaper superb absorbency and is GREAT when used at night!!
The soaker simply snaps to the inside of the diaper with 2 snaps:
Here is the diaper with soaker attached and unstuffed:
You simply fold the soaker at the snap and stuff it into the back side of the diaper's pocket.
This is what your diaper will look like when it's ready to go onto baby's bum:
Let's talk hook and loop! You can see here the vibrant red strip of hook and loop material. You can also see the two rise snap settings here:
My daughter (who is about 14 lbs at 1 year old) wears this diaper on the second rise snap as shown here:
This diaper is amazing! I LOVE the prints (and solid colors of the diapers which can be found
here)! I LOVE that it's an all in one (AIO) with the optional snap in soaker for heavy wetters or overnight use!
I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the prints! I can't wait to get them ALL!
I also love the quality! These diapers are very well made and Tots Bots really does a great job with their customer service!!
Here is this diaper on my little girl:
No gaps in the legs
As you can see it is a bit 'fluffier' with the snap in soaker:
What's not to love!?
The older Easy fit Tots Bots diapers can be purchased now on Amazon.com!
The newer V4 version is not available *yet* in North America... and this new version will replace the older V3 style!
BUT wait, that's not all!! Tots Bots has graciously given one of the the opportunity to win a Tots Bots V4 right here!! Winner can choose color/print in either hook and loop or snap closure! Please note that the prize will not be mailed to the winner until the V4 version is available in North America!!

It's been just over a month since my last blog post. I've been busy!! Having three littles has been great so far and I'm still learning daily how to give each one what they need when they need it!
Allison is almost a year old! She's a great baby! Loves to talk and coo and is just now about 13 lbs! She's a tiny girl and we love her! Despite her being so small, she sure can eat! She is exclusively breastfed and LOVES to nurse!
I was so excited when I was contacted and asked if I would like to review the Gia Angled Breastfeeding Pillow by Dr. Brown!
This is what I received:
I was sent a cute blue cover with elephants on it :)
This is the way the pillow looks! I love the fit!
Here is some more information on the pillow (
taken from Dr. Brown's website):
"The Gia nursing pillow's patented angled design positions baby at an incline, which may help aid digestion and help prevent reflux. The pillow also sits taller and wider than other pillows, giving moms a wide variety of ways to position the pillow for maximum comfort.
The pillow and covers are made of soft, stitched fabric are 100 percent cotton. Both the pillow and the covers are machine washable, and the pillow can be used with or without a cover. The Gia has gained popularity quickly in part because the shape and design was created by a Lactation Consultant who took mom’s needs into consideration and designed a simple, yet amazingly versatile feeding pillow.
- Designed by a Lactation Consultant
- Angled feeding may help digestion and reduce reflux and other feeding problems
- Wider, flatter pillow surface helps prevent baby from rolling down
- Patented, non-flat design positions baby at incline
- Thick-to-thin design to grow with baby for virtually limitless nursing positions
- Quilted 100% Cotton Shell
- Machine Wash & Dry/Retains shape throughout washing
- Use with or without cover"
We LOVE this nursing pillow! We use it every day! I love that it's made of 100% cotton and no foam like in other nursing pillows (my breast friend) that can off gas harmful chemicals!
I love that it's angled! It really does make a difference, especially in the early weeks when you and baby are both learning to breastfeed! This angled nursing pillow was designed by a lactation consultant! It is believed that the angled pillow will help with digestion, reduce reflux and any other feeding problems.
But boy, is it not only useful, but it's so comfy!
I would sit up in bed the first few months and nurse Allison using this pillow and often woke up to her lying on the pillow (still nursing) as I had dozed off. There is no arching your back to try and get your breast into baby's mouth... it is a perfect fit!
There is a great video on Youtube that explains all the benefits of this pillow. You can
watch it here!
These pillows can be used with or without a cover. I was sent the really cute blue cover with elephant prints on it along with my pillow!
You can purchase a Gia Angled Breastfeeding Pillow directly from
Amazon for only $29.99!
The covers are also available at
Amazon ranging from $10-$14 (depending on color and print)!
But wait... that's not all! Dr. Browns is giving one Gia Angled Breastfeeding Pillow and cover (winner's choice of boy/girl or gender neutral) to one of you!!
To enter simply fill out the rafflecopter form below (you may have to click on 'read more' in order for the Rafflecopter form to load)!!

I was so excited when Thanks Mama offered to send a
Tots Bots Stretch Bamboozle fitted diaper for my review as I'm still trying to figure out something for night time that is... well... bulletproof!
This is what I received:
I was sent the size 2 (which fits 10-35 lbs)
The Bamboozle has a very strong hook and loop closure, with rise snaps to adjust for the perfect fit:
The inside of the diaper contains a snap in soaker that's made of bamboo:
You can adjust the soaker (fold it) as for your needs (boy or girl):
I've really liked playing around with this diaper. I have found that by adding a 2 ply applecheeks bamboo insert on top of the snap in soaker I get a HUGE amount of leak-proof protection:
This is the size two (fits 10-35 lbs) on the smallest setting:
Medium setting:
Largest setting:
The main reason I'm not a huge fan of hook and loop closure when it comes to cloth diapers is because in my experience they get attached to all my other diapers in the wash and the diapers get all tangled up and don't get clean! This has NOT been my experience with the Bamboozle!
It has a very well made/sturdy hook and loop closures and fastens to the laundry tabs amazingly well!
Here is a little more information on the Tots Bots Bamboozle fitted diaper (taken from
Thanks Mama's website):
Stretch Bamboozle Fitted Diapers
The Stretch Bamboozle Fitted Diapers fromâ€
Tots Bots are now available in colors! These
fitted cloth diapers have multidirectional stretch to provide a great fit. Combine that with highly absorbent bamboo and a cloth diaper with adjustable legs and waist for a leak-resistant
cloth diaper.
Made from stretchy rayon which comes from bamboo this cloth diaper is environmentally friendly. Bamboo is grown without pesticides or fertilizers and has a short growth cycle. The fabric is soft, durable, and absorbs quickly.
The Stretch Bamboozle has a hidden microfiber core. The included snap-in doubler adds absorbency and reduces drying time. These comfortable
cloth diapers are not bulky and come in two sizes to fit from 5 to 35 lbs.
Since these are fitted cloth diapers you will need a
cloth diaper cover. The
Bummis Super Whisper Wrap,
Bummis Super Brite,
Bummis Super Lite,
Bummis Super Snap, and the
Bummis Whisper Pant will work with this fitted cloth diaper.
Care:
Wash on hot and dry in the dryer. Line dry to make the cloth diaper last longer. Fasten the Aplix to the laundry tabs prior to washing. Do not soak or use bleach, whiteners, brighteners, fabric softeners, or baking soda. Dark colors should be washed separately for the first three washes in order to avoid any color bleeding. New Bamboozles will reach full absorbency after 10 wash/dry cycles. You can start using them after 3 washes.
These bamboo cloth diapers have passed European standards for non-toxicity and are Oeko-Tex certified. They are made by
Tots Bots in Scotland.
The Bamboozle comes in two sizes. Size one, which fits 5-18 lbs and size 2 which fits 10-35 lbs. My little girl is just 12 lbs at 7 months. She's a little peanut for sure and the size 2 fit her great on the smallest setting!!
No gaps around the legs!
There is a great video that shows you just how amazingly stretchy the Bamboozle is! You can view the
video here!
The Bamboozle comes in 2 sizes and 4 great colors/prints
(thistle, sunset, splosh and natural)!
You can buy these amazingly absorbent diapers directly from
Thanks Mama for $19.95!!

October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Breast cancer is the
second leading cause of cancer death in females. One out of eight women will
develop breast cancer in their lifetime. There is no cure for breast cancer and
no exact known cause. It seems as if everyone has either personally or knows
someone who has been affected by this disease. For me it was my mother and 2
paternal aunts who had breast cancer. Thankfully all are in remission and
currently living health lives with minimal side effects from the surgery,
chemotherapy, and radiation.
Each person has some chance of developing the disease, but some are more
predisposed based on genetics, excess estrogen, and lifestyle choices. Someone
is considered at highest risk for breast cancer if there are multiple family
members with the disease, especially mothers or sisters under the age of 50,
indicating some form of genetic involvement. Despite the fact that there is no
way to fully reduce your risk of developing breast cancer it is important to
consider some form of prevention and develop a personal plan.
Here are some helpful tips that I tell my patients when counseling about
breast cancer prevention:
1) Be physically active- exercise has been
scientifically proven to lower your cancer risk
2) Avoid smoking
as it creates free radicals which damage tissue
3) Limit alcohol <1 drink/day, especially in
young adulthood.
4) Avoid excess weight gain, especially after
reaching menopause, as fat tissue contains more estrogen.
5) Breastfeed >1 year as it possibly produces
protective hormonal changes in breast tissue.
6) Eat a diet rich in cruciferous vegetables,
ie. Kale, broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, turnips. Although not fully proven,
new research has indicated that these vegetables help defend the body against
cancer.
7) Avoid hormone replacement as extra estrogen
may stimulate abnormal cells if you are at higher risk. After stopping hormones your risk will return
to normal after 5 years.
8) Get to know your breasts! Perform your monthly breast self-exam. The
best time is after your menstrual cycle as breast tissue is less tender and
nodular. Remember to examine your armpits and outer edges of your breasts
because breast lymph nodes are also located in those areas. If you find an area of concern, check out
your other breast. Breasts are the mirror image of each other and often lumps
are located in the same area on the other side.
9) Be faithful to have your yearly mammogram
starting at the age of 40. If you are at higher risk due to a family history of
primary relatives with breast cancer start at the age of 35.
10) Make sure to have a yearly clinical breast
exam with your provider which includes palpation and visual inspection.
There are many helpful tips available to lower your chances of
breast cancer. This list is not conclusive and it is important to do your
homework and talk to your provider if you are concerned. For me, the risk will
always be present due to my family history, but I have chosen to protect myself
as best as possible. In addition, I have had to let go of the fear of cancer is
inevitable and lean on my faith in God as ultimate healer and protector.
