Data Safety & Mac File recovery software 18 Nov 2011 2:13 AM (13 years ago)

Loosing the important data is always unfortunate no matter it is deleted accidentally or unknowingly! No matter which OS you are using, no matter at what designation you are working, data loss is always worst thing could ever happen to anyone. Surveys says out of the total, maximum cases of data loss is seen due to human mistake but defiantly that does not mean data could not loose by any other way!

Keeping all this in mind Mac developers designed an user friendly operating system and made it so robust that it can handle many of such cases itself. But still, we can not deny the fact that all files are not completely safe in the Mac drive, they are also prone to get lost due to various other reasons. True, data could be lost due to various reasons and worst is they may vary from accidental deletion, file system corruption, bad sector generation, to some physical damage in Mac hard drive. File system corruption is one of the frequently occurred damage that may make mac files inaccessible. Some of the file system errors are:

  •     Error - Not a Macintosh disk
  •     Error - Cannot access because a disk error occurred
  •     Error - Bad master directory block.
  •     Error - This disk is unreadable by this computer. Do you want to initialize the disk
  •     Error - Drive not installed.
  •     Error - Error - The disk cannot be accessed because a disk error occurred.
  •     Error - Bad file name.
  •     Error - Segment Loader Error.
  •     Error - Directory not found.
  •     Error - No such volume
  •     Error - Not an HFS volume

Due to this simple reason, taking proper backup of all of the important data is always suggested. Mac owners themselves added feature of automatic backup with Mac to give to perfect Mac experience.

But there are situations when even the backup fails and we are left with nothing but to use mac file recovery utility to get those files back. No doubt reliable Mac file recovery software can work the best in case of valuable data loss, but if data is important up to that extend that it can effect your financial or social status then creating replica is always a nice idea. Therefore, all these thoughts make experts to suggest hard disk cloning. A hard disk cloning is the technique of making exact replica of entire hard drive or logical volumes. This process includes transfer of data of one hard drive to another disk. Thus, the cloned copy of the hard drive should be saved at the safer location and can be used at any time to restore the lost data. But, in order to clone a drive we need another drive with same or higher capacity.

Mac hard disk failure and File Rescue 21 Oct 2011 9:57 PM (13 years ago)

Data recovery is one of the most technical and complex activity because it is directly associated with the device i.e. hard drive which itself is so complex. Leave the business men it is enough to increase headache level of even some IT professionals.  That is one of the many reasons that data recovery companies can easily charge smart amount, sometimes even for any small task.  This article will provide you some basic knowledge of data recovery:-

Hard Disk Basics
Computer hard drive is a storage device which stores data into metal oxide platters. It has to perform continuous and very fast rotation (About the rate of 12,000 rpm) while read/write operations. The One, which perform this read/write operation on the Meta oxide platter, in the form of magnetic charge, is called head. A drive can have multiple read and write head and each head to perform operation smoothly and quickly.  But this also arose a problem that each head can crash independently, so probability of head crash always remain higher especially when temperature of  disk started increasing due to kinetic energy produced due to head motions. The main part of drive is controller board which unique for every individual drive located in outer part of the platters and it contains firmware zone, the firmware zone is the area which communicate with the computer directly.

Type of hard disk failure:
Hard disks are always handle with care because they are very sensitive and above all they actually having our precious data.  Worst is they can suffer damage in different ways (described below) and with each type of damage in hard disk there remain possibility of data loss.  Let discuss each type of damage and probability of data loss and its recovery:
Logical Errors:  Logical errors of the are most simple (sometime most complex) type of error. These errors are meant for file system corruption, not affecting the data directly.
Symptoms: File inaccessible, system response increases and program may     not work properly
Solution:  Such errors are seems to be simple, nothing is going to happen wrong the data until and using right data recovery software you can get your data back. Here “right” also means that choosing inappropriate data recovery software can make your data beyond recovery. Logical errors are simple but complicated errors you can get your data back by using branded mac file recovery software. Chances of recovery of data are very much high.

Mechanical Failure: Such errors are more serious and it may cause partial or full data loss. These type of errors occur due to head crash at the time it performing read/write operation on platters.
Symptoms: Hard Drive becomes noisy!! Most probably clicking or grinding noise start flushing out
Solution: This is most technical part which needs professional training to solve it. Replacement of read/write head is to be done manually. So, you might have to send hard drive to data recovery lab.  Make sure about the privacy policies of the company before sending the hard drive because your hard drive may have your personal data that you would not like to share with anyone. Such errors need both time and money and chances of recovery is totally unpredictable.

Bad Sectors: These are the areas which OS usually ignore while performing reading and writing operations. These are like big holes in the road which need to be avoided by drivers.
Symptoms: As such no indication will be shown for bad sectors
Solution: It could happen anytime with hard drive and the data present in that section would become inaccessible. So best solution is just to avoid loss that may happen due to bad sector. So prepare cloning or imaging of the hard drive can be a good preparation against bad sector.

Researchers say that most of the time data loss happens due to the human mistakes. Follow the points below to reduce the chances of data loss:
•       Do not avoid any uncertainty of the system
•       Do not trash out the things which you are not sure about.
•       Always keep backup of your important data
•       Keep trusted mac data recovery software handy

How to Clean up your Mac Hard Drive & Mac Startup Disk 18 Oct 2011 12:45 AM (13 years ago)

Remember the days of windows, when you decided to leave the virus infected world for glamorous Mac world! After having lots of fun with Mac in its honeymoon period are you feeling something missing from your dearest Mac? With the passing time, is your Mac getting slow day by day? If yes! Nothing to worry about, just you need to clean up your Mac hard drive. Some of you may be started feeling delay in booting of the system, isn't you?

Lets start with cleaning Boot Volume:
First of all try to find out what process Mac loads when it booted up. Go to system preference and then user accounts at “login item” tab.

All the process will be listed in front of you which your Mac have to load while booting.  Make sure all the process listed here are well known by you. Most of the process which you will find here will be “*Helper” where * is any string. As for example  shown in image “iTuneHelper”. If in case you find anything for which you are not sure about just click “-” after selecting it.

Find Number of Process Running:

If your Mac is late responsive that is you have to wait for process to start after initiating the same. You might have to check this total number of process running at the time time. Quit unimportant process that may immediate solution of processing speed. To see the same go to Application->Utility->Activity Monitor

Make a list of all such softwares and un-install them safely for permanent cure of all such issues. But problem here is Apple has not shipped any un installer though just drag and drop may install that application but thats not proper un-install some of the files will remain untouched there. So it is better idea to use any uni-nstaller for installing the Apps.12

Speedup Mac Software
The task which you have done so far is to find out the unwanted apps in the Mac and still need to do much more to speedup your Mac. To make above process simple here is one software named Speedup Mac by Stellar. That software can clean your Mac and also un-install the unwanted applications, widgets safely.

Basically software is divided into two parts:
1. Speedup Mac
2. Un-installer

So, first part of the software will automatically search and find unwanted files such as language binaries, duplicated files and large files etc in your Mac or in particular volume and other section make proper un-installing very easy.

.Continue reading about how Stellar Speedup Mac works & its feature in next post

Recover Mac files from Mac OS X Lion & Later 22 Sep 2011 9:17 PM (13 years ago)

Hard drive is nothing but data warehouse where files is stored in certain logical manner. The operating system has responsibility to define these logics which are commonly known as file systems. Mac OS X is considered as worlds most powerful operating system in term of security, functionality and usablity. The file system which they use is HFS+ (journaled) which is one of the best well defined file system of the world. But despite of all above feature data loss is very common in Mac.

The most common reasons of data loss in Mac is unexpected file system crash. Some of them are listed below-

    *  System crash and Mac shut down accidentally
    *  Catalog File corruption
    *  Corruption of partition table
    *  Mater File Table corruption
    *  Hardware failure

All above problems are very common in Mac. Worst is it might happen to anyone anytime, it may happen when you woke up in the morning and your Mac refuses to boot and all the files inside the Mac would simply become inaccessible. If that happened due to any file system error disk utility can repair it easily but chances of data loss is mostly likely but if happened due to hardware failure you would need another Mac supported hardware to access that Mac.

In case of file system error, simple hardware verification is more than enough to solve any such issue (to read more visit “http://drive-recovery-mac.blogspot.com/2011/06/file-system-verification-failed-my.html). Although chances of data loss is very less in this case but still keeping mac file recovery software is always keep your mind out from sense of data loss. Yes choosing such software is also not an easy job but once you chose it will always keep you aways from sense of danger.

Other reason of boot failure is hardware issues. If you were facing boot failure due to hardware failure you need to have another Mac supported OS X installed hardware (or another Mac) to resolve this issue. To resolve this limitation Apple introduce new features with latest OS X lion release and they are-

Recovery Hard Drive – The auto installed hard drive hidden partition that could be useful to boot Mac OS X in time of need.

Disk Assistance - It is same as recovery partition but Apple made it supported to external drive. (Visit Lion Recovery Disk Assistant for complete information)

If you are using lion then this task is again not that much complicated. You only need to press “option” key while booting the Mac and choose recovery disk to boot the Mac. But if you are using any other Mac version (external hardware) you need to boot your Mac targeting that disk. Once you boot your Mac you can repair any issues simply by using disk utilities or any third party Mac tools.

Data Recovery Options Availabe for Mac users 7 Sep 2011 1:57 AM (13 years ago)

Recovering data from Mac is no more panic. There are number of professional promising to provide hundred percent recovery from Mac hard drive. Only thing that is important is the time when you realize you need to recover data after deleting it from any Mac volume. If you have realized soon within minutes or before going to re-use the mac hard drive after deleting file from it than you are lucky enough and chances of getting cent percent recovery is very bright. But if you realize data loss after performing heavy operations on the drive the chances of getting whole data back become bit less and also expensive.

The first thought that came in human mind that Shit Man! How careless I am, I must have to take backup. But taking backup is not only the solution of this panic. However it could happen with a person who is very much sensitive in data backups. Are you sure about the person who always take data backup in the night before sleeping can never face data loss? NO not exactly. My point is that person could loss most recent data due to many reasons such as virus, accidental shut down etc. during any hour before 12 at night. I have some points to keep you away from this panic and that are:

Option 1 –
The fastest, easiest and of course cheapest way to recover files is from latest backup. For which I would always suggest to have incremental backup during every hour of the data (or any specific time according to importance of data). For this purpose time machine utility is provided in built with Mac OS X not only this there are many third party tool such as Stellar Shield is available for this purpose.

All these utilities will take image of data at particular point of time (set by user) and if data lost happened in any case it could be recoverable easily from this backup store. Best part of such backup is that it is automated so that there is no such fear if you forget to take backup you can meet data loss. You can get back your data without wasting much time.

Option 2-
Second option is – Mac Data recovery Software. These are basically “to do yourself” utilities that are smart enough to recover data if accidentally deleted from your Mac volume. This option is bit more costly than the first one and also time taken to recover data is more. The third party recovery software such as Stellar Phoenix mac data recovery software is well known name in this field.

The recovery of data from Mac is become so simple with easy to understand GUI that less technical or no technical person and work easily. If you are using Mac OS X Lion then you need to be little bit more conscious while going to buy Mac data recovery software because it could be possible that the software which you are going to order is Lion compatibility. However most of the product announced its compatibility with OS X Lion, Stellar Phoenix Mac data recovery software also announced & proved its compatibility with OS X Lion last week.

Option 3:
Contact expert Mac data recovery software professionals. If your Mac is severely affected or not in use from so many days or worst is using hard drive for 2-3 months and then need recover the data. These are cases where chances of data recovery is not cent percent. This is also most expensive than option 1 and 2.

Don't Panic if Lost Data While Software Update 29 Aug 2011 12:38 AM (13 years ago)

Data loss during software updation is one of the most commonly found reasons of the loss.  The reason  behind data loss due to software upgrade is that during updation large number of read and write operations occurred simultaneously and if system configuration is not such that it can handle the same, it results to  accidental shut  down which could lead to data loss.

I have recently faced data loss last month when I was upgrading to OS X Lion from snow leopard. Everything went smoothly except when  I logged in to OS X Lion I found my important files missing. I was like bearing 10 thousand volt electric shock!! I remembered that I have bought Stellar Phoenix Mac data recovery software last year but problem is I have recently upgraded to Mac OS X Lion and I was not sure whether it could recover or not. But I decided to give it a try...

It was so relaxing to see the softwares welcome screen with following four scanning options:

As I was well aware of this software from before so without wasting even single second I clicked on “Deleted File Recovery”

The screen now in front of me is educating
about what Deleted File Recovery will do? It saying use this option to recover the files that has been deleted accidentally . It scans unused blocks of  to recover deleted files.

After choosing the volume and it the scanning process begins as shown in figure:

It is time taking process because software is going to scan all unused block in the volume for the lost files. After sometime it list all the deleted files in front of me. I previewed all my important files before going for actual recovery.  I was well aware that if I am going to recover all files it will take long time so I used filter option present in the below left of the screen.  As in my case I wanted to recover only some web files (.html) for now. Also, I have added one fake file format “*.abcd” to test its accuracy.

Now its time for actual recovery so I just clicked continue and process started. After few hours I when process stopped I found my all those files in my destination drive.

I was so afraid because I was not sure about the Stellar phoenix Mac Data recovery whether it will work on OS X Lion or not. But this trust worthy software by Stellar did not make me unhappy in the time when I need it most.

Journaled Mac File System in Mac OS X 12 Aug 2011 12:54 AM (13 years ago)

Journaling is a concept  that protects system integrity. It protects Mac from data loss due to its  accidentally shut down. This concept was first introduced with Mac OS X 10.3 Panther (non server).   According to which, the file system which are journaling enabled itself keep record of changes made  there in file system. It actually maintain a Journal of the changes made in file system which is used to maintain the integrity of file system whenever it crashes down accidentally .  During the startup, OS will simply read this journal and restore the consistency of the file system.

If Mac has been accidentally restarted while working and if the drives are  journaling enabled then  it will not take very less time to mount all files because it  need not to check whole Mac for consistency. It only perform consistency check on the particular file or folder and return to consistent state however all the data that was present in buffer at that time will be lost.

However it is up to the user he/she can either enable or disable the journaling feature on the disk. Changing disk Journaling feature is just two step task:
1 . Choose disk in the drop-down menu.
2 . Click the disable / enable button.

So integrity of Mac after Panther has increased to much.  No doubt Journaling enable drive started creating journals and tracking each and every change in file system but  What in the case of  file system corruption, which is very common in Mac. Talking about the most common scenario of file system corruption for internal drive is accidental shut down due to any reason for example power failure or others.  In the same way for external drive it could be due to error occurred while connecting it to Mac or dis connection of connection wire when at the time of data transfer. If you facing this disaster, one and only solution that will work for you is Mac data recovery software.  So make sure you have one of the trusted  recovery software such as Stellar Phoenix Mac data recovery software within the reach of you, before moving forward.

If file system error occur in  drive it will go in unmounted state and while trying to mount it using disk utility an error message appears “mount Failed”! This error basically means the Mac is facing some hardware issues. The software which I used to repair and verify my hard drive was Stellar Volume Repair though we can also do it with disk utility. Why I used this party tool is because of my previous experience (Read my Personal Experience:  What if Drive disappears From your Mac ) with disk utility was not good.

Stellar Volume repair will repair and rebuilt the hard drive and this made the drive visible in the mounted state. Now what reinitialize the hard drive with Mac supported file systems (Journaled).  During the initialization process you will lost the data but don't worry you can recover whole data using effective mac data recovery software such as Stellar Phoenix easily after having Mac support file system.

How to create backup of the Mac that refuses to boot? 2 Aug 2011 10:12 PM (13 years ago)

Many of us are not that much technical to troubleshoot the critical Mac issues and sometimes this may happen with techies that they got feeling that installing new Mac OS is much more easier than troubleshooting. Tech gurus always suggested to take proper backup of hard drive or at least backup the data to minimize the loss. But what if Mac refuses to boot? You can reinstall the OS X but you can not save data loss, right?

If you are thinking so then, wait fact is you can create backup. Yes, even if Mac fails to boot. What you all need is one working external drive such as external USB formatted in Mac readable file system. Make sure this external drive is in working condition & Mac verified. Make sure these tips is going to work only when your Mac is not booting due to software trouble.

Boot System in TDM: Using Target disk Mode, user can target any of the drive to boot the Mac. For this, boot the Mac while holding “T” key until the firwire symbol appears on your Mac. Connect one end of the fireWire with your Mac and Connect second Mac on the other end of the firewire. This second Mac can be used for backup purpose but if it is desirable to take backup in external hard drive then connect external hard drive with second Mac.

What is happening now is that we are going to boot Mac using another Mac connected through the firewire with our Mac. In this case this second Mac will work as external boot drive for our Mac. We can access all the files folder of present in our Mac and can perform any operation on them as our system is working as external hard drive for second system. Now it is not hard to take backup of our Mac. You can also put this backup in external drive connected with second Mac .

Making sure that everything is fine in backup you can go for wipe the hard disk of your Mac. You can use disk utility or any third party tool such as Stellar Wipe for wiping the hard drive. Wipe will make your drive as new just reinstall Mac OS X and your Mac is ready to use!

This is an ideal case when other Mac or external hard drive is working well. As the matter of fact, “everything every time is not go smooth” Just imagine, Your Mac fails to mount to the other Mac even after connecting it through firewire. There may be wirefire issue or may be file system error occurred. Then there is no way out, none but Mac data recovery software can save you form data loss. You can use target disk mode but you can not access the data in that case. To access data in that case you need to verify the disk permissions. Disk utility or any third party tool can help you in this. Using disk utility check “verify“ to verify the file system of the drive and then “repair” if any problem found if problem persist you need to follow all the steps in what if drive disappears from your Mac

Reducing the Chances of Data Loss 21 Jul 2011 2:28 AM (13 years ago)

It is always better to avoid the way where chances of facing troubles are maximum. Most troublesum situation for techies of today is when they face data loss. Worst part of it is that they are  not cent percent sucessful in avoiding such loss till today. Data loss is one of many frquent problems irrespective to operating system they are using. A survey says the most common reason of data loss is human mistakes however some other reasons behind are virus or malware attack, hard drive failure. Mac OS tried best to handle such situation but still cannot do anything for human mistakes so the problem of data loss is still a big problem!! try to avoid it and here are  some cool & efficient tips to avoid data loss.

Organized Storage
The cases are seen where users delete the file thinking of no use but they realise its importance when  in need. To avoid this:

• Classify & organize your folders on the basis of the data you handle.
• Specify appropriate & unique names to the files
• When editing or creating new files store it in separate folder and copy to specific folder once you finalized

Move to Trash
Reputation of Trash is to contain the files if deleted anywhere from Mac. Trash has limited storage capacity and if tried to store more and more files in trash all the files after that capacity will be lost. So it is not good idea to use trash as a folder to store those files may use later.   It may happen most of the case when we see trash has been filled we just “right click” and “empty trash”, its a human habit so hard to get rid of it.

Backup to External Media
While creating backup to external drive, if Mac shut down accidentally or connection wire disconnected or there could be many other reasons which are enough for data loss.  So it is always advisable to take proper backup before moving files to external media. Mac provides time machine to handle the situation you can set backup time with every boot.  So that if Mac crashes down accidentally at least one copy of data will present in backup drive.

Manage Backup
Manage all the backup in such a manner that you can remember, making achieve folder for the files of older month backup is also a good idea.  Make sure that data is coming to backup store regularly. Whether the software you choose is working fine?

If in case still you face data loss due to any reasons just thanks to data recovery software professionals & reputed software such Stellar Phoenix Mac data recovery software.  Only limitation in using such software is that not to use the hard drive for any read or write operations soon after you realize the data loss. Special attention should be taken during monsoon seasons (when humidity is more) because humidity can affect your data directly. So it is always suggested not to open media in open environment. “Prevention is always better than cure” First try to prevent data from loss else go for data recovery cure, no other way out!!

Rectifying Finder Error 36 – You May Need Mac Data Recovery Software 23 Jun 2011 1:23 AM (13 years ago)

Have your Mac ever shown warning message starting from “Error 36”. Periodically, this warning message flashes while trying to copy or move files to the finder.

Error 36 Means: Apple described Error 36 under “File System Errors” section as “I/O error (bummers)”. It means you do not have “read and write” permissions for that particular files.

Perhaps this the most generic error message which almost all Mac users face! While dragging and dropping the file sometime before starting copy or sometime in between copying it stops with warning message starting with“Error 36:...”

What if you get this message:

   1. Check the file permissions: Go to that file first and check for the permissions for user name, the file group and all. Check whether your account has read access of that file or not.

   2. Delete the extended attributes: Try to remove the extended attributes ( name:value pairs associated permanently with files and directories, similar to the environment strings associated with a process ). Actually they are good for OS X, but for other os, file systems, & transfer protocols they may conflict. To remove the extended attributes of the file: Goto Terminal window and type "xattr-d" followed by single space. Drag the target file in terminal window as the full path then press ENTER

   3. Remount external volumes: If you are using external drive this error may occur due to error in external media or connection is not stable. Try ejecting the drive and connecting again in another port, if available. For networked drive try alternate methods of connection such as wi-fi.

   4.  Try moving using other option: Since during the file transfer there are number of checks done lots of extended attributes are tested to ensure successful transfer of the file. And if error occurs in any check finder will through that “Error:36” message. So its worthy to try other option: Open Terminal -> Type “mv” followed by single space. Now Drag the target file in terminal window as the full path then press ENTER. When terminal return to command prompt check the destination that file must be present there. Note that you will no see process bar while using this option for large file wait terminal return till command prompt then check the file.

What if still not find file at destination?

Problem still persists, blame hard drive for errors. Try to verify the hard drive errors. It is good idea to take proper backup of the data using using time machine utility or any third party utility such as Stellar drive clone because we are performing actions on the hard drive directly, any single mistake can result data loss. Now only option remains is none other than drive re-initialization!! Initialize the hard drive in the journalized HFS+ format. Get your data back from backup taken before.

Mac Data Recovery Software to keep check on data loss 24 May 2011 12:47 AM (13 years ago)

Hard disk is one the most important part of any system. It is actually data warehouse for any computer system. Can you imagine what could happen if the hard drive of the systems crashes out accidentally or the data present there become inaccessible? Imagine if this happens a night before  annual report presentation day....... Stop, just relax!! Here is one way out.
Lets discuss some of the Leading causes of Data loss

Natural Disasters          0-1.00%
Software Corruption     15.00%
Viruses                          25.00%
Hardware Issues           20.00%
Human Mistakes          39.00%

Hence the Two major causes of data loss are:

Virus Attack:  This is  common cause of hard disk crash. Some viruses are made so strong that it can effect the file even after anti virus protection. These virus simply deletes some files and that file become inaccessible.

So one of the best solution is to make copy of important data  such as business presentation, annual reports to an external hard drive.

Human Mistakes:
In most of the cases data is lost due to human mistakes. Humans generally forget to take backup of the data regularly and when the data is accidentally deleted problem occurs.

There are lots of data recovery softwares available in the market to recover lost data from most of the data loss cases. Mac OS X, has time machine application to take backup of data automatically but under certain restrictions. But still Mac OS X is not cent percent free from data loss. So best solution to keep your data is to have data recovery software with you always. But problem is there are n numbers of data recovery products present in the market. To whom should believe?

Importance of right Data recovery software:

If you are a computer geek chances are very bright that you might have noticed that from last few years data recovery softwares are becoming very popular. But before choosing any mac data recovery software inquire about it very well. If possible use “demo version” first and then go for download full version.

Catalog file corruption in Mac OSX causes data loss 17 May 2011 9:22 PM (13 years ago)

Catalog files are files used by file manager to save information about file hierarchy on mac volume, these files are stored in such a way to form B-tree, a B-tree contains index nodes, Leaf nodes and a header node, hence these files are of critical importance.

These files are quiet susceptible to corruption due to many reasons like,
• Virus attack
• Volume header corruption
• Operating System corruption
• Master directory block corruption
• Accidental disk formatting
• Disk initialization
• Partition table corruption

when corruption occurs in these files then all the data in mac drive becomes inaccessible and the following error message is displayed-

“*.* file not found”

If we go deep in the file systems of Mac, the file systems include HFS Wrapper, HFS, HFS+ ( Where HFS is Hierarchical file system). Mac also includes lots of data structures like MBR or master boot record, Boot loader and catalog files, among them catalog files are most important.

As mentioned above Catalogue files are stored in the form of Btree allocation. Block no. of first file extent in catalogue file is stored in MDB  and when Mac hard disk is mount. The information is copied in mac volume and now from header node , node number of root node can be obtained and from there entire files are obtained by file manager. When catalogue corruption occurs, file manager fails to find files stored in the mac volume and data becomes inaccessible.

To fix these problem first of all what we should do is to keep the updated back up of all the files and even if the backup is not available or if it is not updated then the need of third party data recovery software for mac arrives.

In this particular case of node corruption, what you have to do is to search mac data recovery software like stellar phoenix mac, that have functionality to recover data from corrupted catalog files .

Recovering Mac data when volume goes missing 12 May 2011 2:53 AM (13 years ago)

A hard drive in a Mac Operating System based Machine is divided into various partitions to make the OS perform better, These different partitions/volumes can be used for storing different kinds of data in the drive. However, sometimes when you try to access one of the drives, you fail to access it. The error message states that the volume/drive is missing, but it happens because of the fact that the disk drive has been damaged and inaccessible. This condition leads to a serious instance of data inaccessibility or loss .

One error message that depicts such a scenario as mentioned above is -

“No such volume; volume not found”

After facing such an error, you may find yourself in a helpless state. All the data in the hard drive becomes inaccessible and you need to take the help of a Mac undelete software to resume your work back to normalcy.

The above mentioned error occurs due to a possible damage in the hard drive structure. In Mac, Disk Utility is an inbuilt repairing tool that detects and repairs hard drive errors. Here, when you run Disk Utility, you get another error mesage as below:

“Error starting disk utility back ground process”

Another error message that follows the previous one may be:

“Disk Utility started, but a background process needed in disk utility didn't start properly. Please quit and restart disk utility.”

These error messages are the outcome of a serious damage to the hard drive volume or its file system. This may happen due to several reasons like, abrupt system shutdown, operating system malfunction, virus/malware attack etc. Whatever be the reason, the only solution to this issue is to format the hard drive and install a fresh copy of the Mac OS X. This of course leads to complete erasing of data from the drive and a Mac undelete files software can help you recover all your formatted data back.

These specially designed software help you to undelete mac files from any HFS plus, HFS, HFS wrapper and FAT file system based volumes.  With these useful utilities, you can recover your data from any Mac OS X based media, including external/internal hard drive, USB drive, memory cards etc.

How to recover corrupted DBF file in Mac 8 Feb 2011 7:34 PM (14 years ago)

In a Mac system, the Desktop DB or Desktop DF files are invisible files which can not be located by normal users. The files were originally created by the Desktop Manager to maintain the information in addition to the Finder's Desktop file at that particular time. Finder's Desktop file contains information about virtually everything on your Mac system including applications, hard drives, files and folders etc. These files were designed to be acted as high performance databases to support faster access of information in Apple Share servers. However, if these files get damaged, you won't be able to access your data. Whenever you try to access a file or start an application, the process will halt with an error message stating that the desktop database is corrupt and you need to rebuild it by deletion and recreation. Hence, to get back your valuable data, you need any good and effective Mac data recovery software.

The Error message may read like:

“-1305 desktopDamagedErr The desktop database has become corrupted - the Finder will fix this, but if your application is not running with the Finder, use DTReset or DTDelete”

Cause:
These kind of errors arise due to the corruption of Finder's Desktop DB file. Following are some of the reasons behind the corruption of the file:
1) Improper system shutdown
2) Virus infection
3 )Conflict of system data structure
4) Grown size of database etc.

Resolution
You have to rebuild the Finder's Database file to fix the above issue. Follow the steps to carry out this task:
Restart the Mac system and press OPTION and COMMAND keys and hold them throughout the time of startup.
When startup process completes, a confirmation dialog box with the message “Are you sure you want to rebuild the Desktop file” will pop up. Release the OPTION and COMMAND keys and click “OK” button in dialog box.
If the above method fails, you need to use DTDelete command to delete the database and recreate it.

The above process will definitely resolve the issue by recreating the database files, but all your valuable information from the hard drive will be removed causing severe data loss. The situation demands only Mac data Recovery software to help you retrieve all your lost data.

These Mac file Recovery tools use high-end scanning algorithms to carry out in-depth scan of the hard drive and recover back all your lost or inaccessible data. These software are risk free and with their interactive graphical user interface, quite easy to use.

How to recover mac data after compatibility related issue 26 Jan 2011 8:27 PM (14 years ago)

Mac is one of the most advanced OS in the present era it comes with features that are undoubtedly delight to all Techno savvy as well as non tech people to continue its edge among its competitors it all the apps and functions gets regular updates , It happens that some times we updates a software but it fails the compatibility test with mac now this sort of incompatible apps can some times leads us to the situation when critical data in our machine got lost and in that case we have to look for some mac data recovery software that can recover our data back

Now lets take example of up-gradation of Photo-shop CS2 while working on Older version of Mac Machine the software gets updated on the machine but it may face problem when we start working on the system we may find some erratic behavior in the machine we may encounter the message like :

"-Illegal Name error when you run Disk Utility"

The reason for this error is that some version of Mac operating systems reports some file names in illegal file names, and system stops responding after that
The information related to files type resides  inside folder of the Photoshop application and we can not delete these file, it can result in severe file system corruptions. Thus the data in the drive lie in stake.

Now question arises how to resolve these issues:
for that purpose we have to follow the below given instructions
Just go to the below directories and delete 'legal' or 'legal.localized' folder:
-- Applications/Adobe Photoshop CS2/
-- [Username]/Documents/Adobe Help Center/

Run  the Mac 'Disk Utility' application to repair any instance of error in the file system.

After performing the above steps, if you are still unable to resolve the problem, restore the whole data from updated back up if case you don't have updated one you have to refer some mac data recovery application to get your data back

Performing Mac data recovery when Time Machine corruption causes data loss 17 Jan 2011 9:32 PM (14 years ago)

Data plays a very important part in today's techno savvy, computer driven business environment loss of data may occur to even the most secure and the safest Machine, what so ever the hardware and software configuration be.To handle this situation of data loss the Mac machine comes up with a unique utility "Time Machine" it prevents all the situation of data loss by taking a regular backup of all the data the backup takes place in according to predefined schedule it takes a backup of all internal and external storage devices this utility ensure absolute Mac recovery in all data loss cases.

Although, Time Machine application supports external hard disk to store backup data, but the drive must be formatted using HFS+ file system. In case external hard drive is using the MBR partition type, then you may encounter serious issues.

The External Mac OS X hard drives that are using MBR disk partition types do not accept over 10 GB of data from the Time Machine utility. Thus, if you use Time Machine to backup data on such disks, backup process may stop once the size approaches 10 GB. So you cannot use Time Machine backup to restore data from external hard drive in such situations and Mac recovery is required to sort out the problem.

Resolution
It is essential to change the hard disk partition type to properly backup your valuable data on external Mac hard disk. It is possible by formatting the hard disk using HFS+ file system. Formatting is the complete solution to effectively fix all hard disk problems, but  it also removes the stored data.

In order to recover Mac files in such situations and perform data recovery Mac, you need to restore data from backup. The most recent data backup is the best Mac data recovery method. However, if backup is either not updated or valid, you need to go for alternative Mac recovery solutions.

Mac file recovery: What to do when my file system get corrupted. 10 Jan 2011 9:21 PM (14 years ago)

Though the Mac machine are very much efficient in accomplishing the everyday works and are built with all the advanced technology, still it does not mean that one can not face any instance of data loss with Macintosh. Macintosh users do face data loss sometimes, data loss can be so accidental that it may not be prevented. In all such tragic and unfortunate situations, Mac file recovery is the software to recover all your valuable data back.

Sometimes, with any unexpected power failure, if the Macintosh machine suddenly shuts down, it shows an error message, the next time you try to boot the system. With the error message popping up every time you try to start-up, the system may fail to boot further.

The error message may be as follows:

"-127 error disk could not used/found"

The cause behind the error message, you encountered can be a possible corruption to the directory structure/file system of the hard disk. The file system or the directory structure systematically stores the data, when there is any operation on the hard disk and if that is suddenly interrupted in the middle, the information gets corrupted. After this, the next time you try to boot your Macintosh machine, the OS can not be able to fetch the information with respect to the last operations and the whole hard disk becomes inaccessible thereof.

Resolution:

Run the Disk Utility from the recovery console and repair the damaged file system

If disk utility fails, you may try the 'fsck' utility to check and repair the file system.

If you failed to resolve the issue with both the above methods, you are left with the only choice to format the disk and make fresh partitions. After that you can restore the file from any previously taken backup. However, you have not taken any backup recently, use any File recovery Mac software to bring back the formatted fie.

These Mac file recovery software are very powerful to scan your troubled drive and retrieve all your data quite efficiently. Moreover, with their easy-to use features, any user even without much technical knowledge can also use the software.

TDM Error and Mac data recovery 27 Dec 2010 3:07 AM (14 years ago)

Apart from the normal boot mode, in the Mac systems, there is another special boot mode called 'TDM' or 'Target Disk Mode'. The Mac systems, which have been started in the TDM boot mode, behaves as FireWire drives. The Macintosh system started in TDM mode, does not boot and can get attached to any FireWire port of any other system with the options for formatting, partitioning or transfer of files. However, if you try to mount the disk that has been started in TDM mode, it fails to boot and the data in the drive becomes completely inaccessible. In such a situation of data loss or inaccessibility, you have to opt for any Mac recovery software to recover and restore your valuable data from the troubled Mac drive.

In the above instance of data inaccessibility, when the Mac drive fails to mount, you may encounter an error message, which can be read as below:
“You have inserted a disk containing no volumes that Mac OS X can read”
The error dialog box that you receive may contain three options, such as Initialize, Ignore and Eject, among which you must either opt for the option Eject or Ignore to close the error dialog box.

Cause:
The reason can be pretty simple that the drive must have been formatted in a non-Mac format, including any FAT or NTFS file system type. The Mac OS X can not be able to recognize the disk drives, which has been started under TDM mode and formatted with NTFS or FAT32 file systems.

Resolution:

In order to resolve the above case, you need to format the hard drive in a Mac Os X supported file system. You have to connect the drive to any Intel-based Macintosh system and format using the Disk Utility.

However, with formatting and a fresh installation of the operating system, all your data from the drive will be lost and you have to restore them back from a valid backup. If you do not have any valid backup or failed to restore from the backup due to any unresolved issue, then, the only option, which can help you recover back your seemingly lost data is to run any Mac recovery utility.

In order to handle such situations, to prevent data loss, and needs of Macintosh data recovery software; Mac includes Disk Utility application.

Though Disk Utility is a powerful utility that is capable of handling a number of issues with Mac OS X hard drive, however, there is no guarantee that it will work in all cases of system failure. There are some situations where Disk Utility may fail with the following error-

"The underlying task reported failure"
Subsequent to the above error message, when you check the Disk Utility log, it shows "-9972" error code. The error code - 9972 signifies that the volume's disk structure is damaged and cannot be verified/fixed by the tool.

Cause
The above error occurs due to severe corruption to the disk structure or the file system. Corruption can occur due to various reasons, such as virus infection, improper system shutdown, user error, and disk data structure damage. Disk Utility cannot handle serious damage and you need to use other Tools to repair mac volume  and fix the issue.

Solution
Try out the below methods to sort out this behavior-
Use fsck command through Terminal to repair mac volume. You must run the fsck command in single user mode. Alternatively you can also start the command from a different hard drive volume.

Use third-party system utility to repair your Mac OS X hard drive. You are highly recommended to create a complete backup of your significant data to prevent data loss and need of Mac data recovery due to any conflict.

If none of the above methods work, you will have to perform 'Erase and Install' installation of Mac OSX  OS Although, it resolves the issue, but also deletes all the data from hard drive.

To perform data recovery Mac in such cases, Mac file recovery software are required. The file recovery Mac software uses advanced HFS recovery algorithms to effectively recover Mac data.

HFS+ recovery software lets you recover Mac files on your own, as of their highly-interactive user interface. Mac data recovery software preserves absolute integrity of your data with read-only conduct.
