Shopping and making purchases using mobile devices is now a mainstream aspect of commerce and daily life for people worldwide, according to new mobile commerce research from The Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB). Three-quarters of smartphone or tablet users in 19 countries responding to a survey said they have bought a product or service via smartphone or tablet in the previous six months.
Nearly one-quarter (23%) said they did so on a weekly basis, IAB highlights in an excerpt from ¨Mobile Commerce: A Global Perspective,¨ which the industry organization presented at Advertising’s New World Order, the theme of this year’s IAB MIXX Conference at the Crowne Plaza in New York City’s Times Square.
Globally, nearly 6 in 10 respondents (57%) said they have been making mobile purchases for more than one year. Nearly 3 in 10 (28%) said they made their first mobile purchase in the last six months.
Mobile Commerce Research
A large majority of respondents (80%) cited price and convenience, particularly with regard to saving time, as key factors that prompt them to engage in mobile e-commerce. Sixty-two percent said they intend to make purchases in the next six months. Results revealed that mobile shoppers in the U.K., Brazil, Ireland and Peru were the most likely to increase their mobile shopping activities.
IAB’s latest study also revealed that a large majority of mobile buyers (76%) had engaged with a mobile ad. One-third clicked on a mobile ad on average to obtain more information about a product or service,
Another 28% clicked to visit the advertisers’ website and 21% clicked to make a purchase. Click-through purchases were highest among mobile shoppers in Brazil, Canada, Colombia, the U.K. and the U.S.
Social Media Impact
Mobile shoppers also make a lot of use of social media in association with their activities. Sixty percent of mobile purchasers said they often discover products and services they would like to buy on social media networks. More than one-third (36%) said they share their mobile shopping experiences via social media sites.
Regarding payment methods, using credit or debit cards to make payments via mobile Web or other modes of online payment are the most popular. Forty percent said they paid for mobile purchases via mobile Web services, while 37% said they used other online payment channels.
Mobile Wallet Trends
Furthermore, IAB found that those with mobile wallets installed on their devices are the most heavily involved in mobile commerce. Eighteen percent said they had used a mobile wallet to make mobile purchases in the past six months.
In addition, mobile wallet users make purchases more frequently than average – 36% weekly vs. an average of 23%. They also are more likely to click on mobile ads – 82% as compared to 76%, respectively.
Mobile wallet use is most prominent in China (47%), followed by Norway (42%), the U.K. (42%) and Japan (20%). In terms of what they purchased, IAB found the following:

WordPress? 4.1 was released today, and along with it a new default theme, TwentyFifteen. Version 4.1’s code name is “Dinah”, in honor of jazz singer Dinah Washington.

The Global Web Index (GWI) report shows that Social messaging app Snapchat saw 56% rise driven by heavy adoption rates among young users in US, UK, Australia, Ireland and Canada, while Facebook Messenger also grew its audience by 52.
Facebook Messenger, whose audience grew by 52%, social media photos-based site Instagram has seen growth of 47%, LINE saw a 44% increase and Pinterest grew by 43%.
WeChat is enjoying a better user base within the APAC (Asia-Pacific) region. Nearly a quarter of the world’s internet users (23%) aged 16-64 are now using WeChat on a regular basis, with the figure just short of 40% (standing at 39%) in Asia Pacific alone. WeChat’s audience numbers rocketed by 500% in Singapore, by 1,200% in Malaysia and a whopping 2,350% in India.
Despite all of the privacy issues surrounding it that have been plaguing Snapchat since the start of the year, the app has proved to be resilient in its growth, keeping pace among the top apps thanks to teens, mostly residing in US, UK, Australia, Ireland and Canada. Snapchat also has the youngest audience of any social or messaging app.
Mobiles and tablets are seeing big rises for social networking, whereas the audience engaging via PCs/laptops is contracting.

Mozilla has announced launch date for a new browser for developer. It is scheduled for November 10, 2014 — the same day Firefox celebrates its 10th anniversary.

Mumbai city stands at the top in internet penetration in India
According to the Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI), Mumbai stands at the top when the context is about internet penetration of the mass. Delhi is next to it having the second position and in third stands Hyderabad. Delhi has 8.1 million and Hyderabad having 4.7 million web users.
Last Year Mumbai had 8.3 million users while Delhi saw 6 million web users. The growth is seen from the report of this year which shows Delhi standing at 8.1 million.
In the survey of year-to year increase in internet subscription, Kolkata witnesses 47% growth while Mumbai stands in the second position with 45% growth. Bangalore, Pune and Delhi are following these two cities with an impressive year-on-year growth in web penetration at 43%, 37% and 35%, respectively.

The majority of the top 100 blogs are using WordPress blogging platform, says a new study from Pingdom.
52% of the top 100 blogs are currently using WordPress, either hosted or self-hosted, according to an annual study conducted by Pingdom.com. Pingdom gets the top 100 list of blogs from Technorati.
The Pingdom study notes that the Web and blogging sites, specifically, have changed considerably in the last few years. Pingdom says: “For many of us, what we used to blog about we now publish to social networks. But there’s also no denying that blogging is not gone. It has, however, changed as has the tools used to publish blogs with. Some, like WordPress, started out as blogging platforms and has taken on more general content management functionality. Others have developed in the opposite direction.”
The 2013 study from Pingdom shows that 4 more of the top 100 are now using WordPress compared with last year. No other single CMS provider even comes close to matching WordPress’ dominance among the top Technorati blogs.
Interestingly, 12 of the top 100 have custom systems created specifically for them. Drupal is the second-most popular blog platform, with 7 of the 100 using it.
But some of the old stalwarts are no longer as popular as in years past, specifically Movable Type, Typepad and Blogger.
Two of the top five blog sites, are using Movable Type for their CMS system.
And while TypePad added two spots in the top 100 and and Google’s Blogger added one, they are still mere shadows of their former place in the lives of bloggers.
Not only is WordPress popular for blogs, but as the report points out, WordPress has taken on a much larger role as a general CMS platform. It’s become very accepted with small businesses that use WordPress to build their entire websites, not just their blogs. Google considers the “Quality Score” as an ranking prameter of an ad’s performance. The Quality Score increases the fastest when you create tightly themed ad groups using keywords that are very relevant to the content on your landing page. This, along with testing and optimizing your copy, will substantially increase your click-thru rate. As your click-thru rate increases, so too should your Quality Score. And as your Quality Score increases, your ads should appear higher on the search results’ page, especially as you increase your bids.

The keyword quality score on a system of 1 to 10 rating is result of the individual keyword quality score on each keyword you bid on.
