Waterproofing And Concrete Repair In Saint Peters, MO 24 Apr 2024 4:00 PM (11 months ago)

Back in February of 2024, Martha A. of Saint Peters, Missouri, was becoming increasingly frustrated with the water collection in her basement. She contacted Woods Basement Systems to help rectify this issue. Additionally, she was hoping for some leveling on her displaced concrete driveway as well. To address the standing water in the basement, Woods had a service specialist come out and investigate the situation. The sump pump that had been installed previously was not taking in any water. Woods deduced that the water was having difficulty making its way to the sump pump. The WaterGuard System was installed to provide a channel to guide the water to the preexisting sump pump. This system is a network of specialized piping that is placed just above the soil and directly within the floor, ensuring the piping systems will stay clog-free.

When the next heavy storm came, Martha went down to her basement with towels in hand, fully prepared for water on her basement floor. To her pleasant surprise, there was no water to clean up – it was all being collected and removed by her sump pump, as the groundwater seepage now had a direct pathway to it.

Woods also corrected the displaced concrete slabs in her driveway. There had been significant sinkage, particularly in the middle portion. The PolyLevel System was used to correct this. It consists of a high-density polyurethane foam that is injected directly under the troublesome concrete slab. As it sets, the foam expands and lifts the concrete back to its original position. Woods also took the time to address another sinking area on Martha’s back porch.  While our foreman Frankie Davis was unable to return it to its original position, Martha A. was overjoyed regardless. She commented on how Woods exceeded her expectations, and that she is thrilled to be able to use her basement, back patio, and driveway to their fullest capabilities. Great job Woods!

Springtime Panic: The Most Common Springtime Problems 14 Apr 2024 4:00 PM (11 months ago)

Severe weather alerts can send any homeowner into a panic in the springtime. It can cause even more panic if a sump pump fails to pump out water that enters your basement during heavy rains that can overflow and flood the basement. This problem is more common than you think. However, with our U.S.-made sump pumps that work, this problem will cease to exist. Our TripleSafe Sump Pump System includes two reliable cast-iron Zoeller pumps and a third battery-backup UltraSump pump that will take over if the power goes out. This gives added peace of mind, especially if you are out of town!
Cracks in your foundation are bad enough. If the cracks are leaking more and more each spring, your foundation may need repair. Ignoring possible problems will only get worse over time if not repaired. If water and mud are now leaking through the cracks, the foundation needs to be inspected. Foundations are meant to hold up the rest of the house, and repairing it temporarily will only make the problem come back, worse than before. Repairing your foundation permanently with either our GeoLock Wall Anchors or PowerBrace System will ensure that your foundation remains in place for good!
Soil can end up shifting during extreme drought situations. If rain finally comes in the following spring, it may have access to areas around the foundation it didn't have access to in the past. Our patented products and processes and years of experience will make sure your structure is safe, sound, and stable, and that your basement will stay dry all the time!

Features of the SmartSump™ Crawlspace Sump Pump 13 Mar 2024 4:00 PM (last year)

Our SmartSump Sump Pump Liner is small enough to fit through the smallest access openings. Typically hidden in a closet or laundry room, these access openings are the width of a floor joist, so our liner is only 15 inches in diameter. Inside the crawlspace, our SmartSump System will pump out any groundwater seepage that enters it. Not only can it control groundwater problems beneath a crawlspace liner, but it also has other features to its airtight lid that ensure your crawlspace stays dry all the time. Having a covered sump pump liner will keep evaporation from coming out of the sump pump and causing moisture problems like open sump pump pits do.
One feature that our SmartSump has is a WaterWatch Alarm. This alarm rests on the top of the SmartSump lid to detect water from a plumbing leak. This simple warning can address a problem from a plumbing leak before it floods the crawlspace.
The SmartSump System also features a built-in floor drain. This will protect your crawlspace from sudden groundwater intrusion or a plumbing leak. The drain is also built into the lid and can reduce damage from a leak by draining water into the SmartSump and not letting evaporating moisture out.
Another useful system that can be included with the SmartSump is the UltraSump Battery Back-Up Pumping System. If water rises above the operating range of the primary pump due to a power failure, this system will sound an alarm similar to the WaterWatch alarm. An automatic switch will turn on the battery-operated pump, and up to 1,500 gallons of water can be pumped out hourly. This can provide homeowners extra protection and peace of mind if a heavy storm knocks the power out.
The SmartSump System has additional features to help keep the crawlspace dry all the time. Some of these features are seen in the photo as the red airtight grommet around the 1 ½ inch PVC sump pump discharge line. These features can offer maximum protection for your crawlspace, leading to a dry crawlspace and a healthier home!

Sealing the Crawlspace from the Outside 26 Feb 2024 3:00 PM (last year)

The Stack Effect is a huge cause of energy inefficiency in homes. As air enters through the lowest level and rises, it will leave at the highest level of a home via exit points through the attic. Because of the Stack Effect, air leaving the home through the attic is being replaced at the very lowest level, such as a crawlspace. This means that allergens and possibly mold are always being drawn up into a home's living space. This can cause several problems, especially if crawlspace entrances aren't sealed properly, only adding to the problem. Having a proper crawlspace entrance can highly contribute to the health of your crawlspace and home by disconnecting the Stack Effect.
Most crawlspace access doors are made of plywood, and end up rotting due to the ground moisture. They fail to seal the crawlspace letting outside moisture in, and end up being eaten away by bugs. Replacing this with our EverLast™ Crawlspace Door will solve many of these issues. Made completely of inorganic material that is waterproof and resistant to mold growth. It looks much better than deteriorating wood doors, and it will never rot, rust, or need paint.  Made of a half-inch-thick treated solid plastic with a special foam seal, it's designed to seal off the crawlspace from the outside elements to protect your area from outside humidity and cold.
If the entrance of the crawlspace is below grade, the Turtl™ is the best solution for an access well. Other wells rot and leak, and have no lid to keep water and debris out. The Turtl™ Crawlspace Access System combines a secure crawlspace door and an access well that will provide clean and convenient access to the crawlspace. Made from strong molded plastic, it will never rot, rust, corrode, or need paint. It is secure and lockable so it will add even more protection to your crawlspace.
With these systems, sealing the old plywood entry with the EverLast™ Crawlspace Door and adding the Turtl™ Crawlspace Access System for easy entry will make the crawlspace efficient and secure. Included with the crawlspace encapsulation system, you are on your way to having a completely dry crawlspace that is energy efficient and a healthier and more comfortable home!

Products That Work for Fixing Any Foundation 18 Feb 2024 3:00 PM (last year)

Problems that can occur with a poured concrete foundation wall include either horizontal or diagonal cracks and inward movement. A very good solution for these is the GeoLock Wall Anchor System. These will protect the walls from further movement. Heavy-duty anchors are embedded into stable soil away from the foundation, and then connected to basement wall plates inside with galvanized steel rods. Once tightened, the anchors will hold the wall securely in place and stop inward movement.
Issues can arise with a block wall foundation as well, such as stair step cracks between the blocks. Another good solution to permanently stabilize these types of walls is the PowerBrace System. Zinc-plated beams are custom fit to the height of the basement and tightly secured with brackets anchored to the floor and framing above. This unique design reverses wall failure and foundation issues and doesn't require any invasive drilling or digging on the property.
Both of these systems are made of galvanized steel and can work together on the same wall, whether it's a block, brick, or poured foundation. They have written transferable warranties that last for the life of the structure. Monitoring and repairing your foundation sooner rather than later is important, in case future installation of invasive repair products disrupts outdoor landscaping, decks, or patios. The more that has to be repaired can cause additional costs, so repairing any foundation issues sooner will be well worth it!

Block Foundations and Winter Weather 14 Jan 2024 3:00 PM (last year)

Think of a brick or block basement foundation as an additional floor, another story,  below ground, and is built with concrete walls. It typically goes well past below the frost line, which is the depth at which the groundwater in soil is expected to freeze in the winter. Winter weather can affect this foundation and knowing the signs of foundation problems early can be very beneficial because stopping the problem early is less expensive than ignoring it and letting it get worse over time.

For example, if the fall months contain lots of rain, and if winter decides to come early, all of this groundwater can end up freezing and expanding. This can then push on the foundation walls and cause stair-stepping cracks in the mortar between the bricks or blocks. As the pressure continues, often a horizontal crack will appear midway on the wall. It will shift and move in, causing a bowing effect on the wall. Just like a poured foundation wall, stair-stepping cracks will appear in the brickwork outside if the problem is not solved.

Effects of foundation problems can also appear inside the house's main level, including cracks on drywall. Windows or doors may not open properly, as they may stick or crack. In extreme cases where the foundation shifts or settles, drywall cracks will spread into the ceiling. So whether the foundation problem is settling or failing in poured, brick, or block foundation, knowing the warning signs will encourage you to seek a free estimate for repair!

Taking notice of the fall-to-winter weather changes can help identify problems that may occur with your home’s foundation, and watching out for warning signs and effects can help prevent future problems and restore peace of mind. So, next time there is heavy rain, walk around your house when it stops to make sure puddles of water are not standing close to the basement foundation. Give us a call if you see wall cracks inside or outside of your home!

For example, if the fall months contain lots of rain, and if winter decides to come early, all of this groundwater can end up freezing and expanding. Poured concrete walls can crack diagonally or horizontally, and cracks in a stairstep pattern will show up in the brickwork outside the house.

Backing Up Your Basement: Battery Back-Up for Sump Pump to Prevent a Wet Basement Again 16 Nov 2023 3:00 PM (last year)

You may think that since your basement already has a sump pump in it, you won't have to worry about water leaking in and causing problems. But this is not always the case. Some sump pumps can only contain a certain amount of water, and it may not be able to handle the amount of water that is entering it. Also, they are normally plugged into the wall, so what if the power goes out during a big storm? Or worse, the pump is slowly wearing out and suddenly just quits. Then you will have nothing to pump out any water at all. If you have the right equipment, problems such as these won't be ones you have to worry about. There are plenty kinds of backup systems, and knowing which one to choose to provide the best protection is crucial in keeping your basement dry all the time.

To make sure your sump pump is able to pump out all of the water that enters it plus more, we recommend our one-of-a-kind TripleSafe Sump Pump System. It is able to hold one primary Zoeller cast iron pump that does most of the work, and an additional pump that will operate if the first one isn't able to keep up as it wears out and quits completely. Additionally, there is a third pump that can be installed to provide even more protection. This one is our battery-operated UltraSump System.

The UltraSump Pump will turn on automatically if the main power shuts off or is accidentally unplugged. It is provided with either one or two maintenance-free batteries that can pump up to 24,000 gallons of water with a 1.5-inch discharge line. It includes a 120 amp/hour pack and an automatic charging system. It also has an alarm that will inform you when it is being used so you can restore the primary pump’s power when it returns.

Having a sump pump that can handle the amount of water that is entering it is crucial, and having the additional protection of a battery backup pump such as the UltraSump System can play a huge part in keeping the basement dry all the time!

What's That Smell? The Stack Effect: How a Smell from the Crawlspace Can Affect the Whole Home 2 Nov 2023 4:00 PM (last year)

The stack effect creates an airflow from the bottom to the top of the home, from the basement or crawlspace to the uppermost floor. As the air becomes warm and rises, it leaks out of the upper levels. This air from the lowest level to the top then mixes with the other air in the house. So if the lowest level is a crawlspace, this air will affect you whether you go into the crawlspace or not.
The solution to this problem begins with isolating your crawlspace from the earth. The CleanSpace Encapsulation System can achieve this, as it is fitted into the crawlspace to completely seal it off from the dirt floor and the exterior. CleanSpace is a thick plastic liner, similar to that of a pool. It will stop water vapor from permeating up the floor and allow drainage from the floor to a sump pump system such as our SmartSump, which is specially designed to fit inside the small crawlspace and will pump any water out of it and keep it away from the home.
Once the issues of a damp crawlspace have been resolved, the rest of your home will become healthier, more comfortable to live in, and smell better!

Push Piers vs. Helical Piers... What's the Difference? 22 Oct 2023 4:00 PM (last year)

A settling foundation can not only damage your home but your quality of life as well. There are many ways to fix this, but knowing which solution to choose is crucial in improving these issues. We offer two options that work to restore your foundation, Push Piers and Helical Piers. While these will both stabilize your foundation permanently, there are differences between them that must be taken into consideration.

When the local soil conditions are unknown, Push Piers are the least risky solution to a settling foundation. These reach a much greater depth than helical piers, as they are driven at high pressures down to a stable soil level. However, these shouldn't be used on lighter structures, because the structure may not be heavy enough to drive the Push Piers far enough into the ground.

With Helical Piers, a foundation can be stabilized regardless of its weight. The helix-shaped blade disturbs less soil and advances much deeper than less efficient helical piers. Our helix-shaped Helical Piers can be installed deep enough if a stiff soil layer is encountered near the surface.

Both of these options will permanently stabilize the foundation, can be installed quickly with minimal disturbance, and are installed below grade so they are out of sight. However, depending on the weight of your structure or the conditions of the soil, your choice of Pier may change to properly provide the best result for a failing foundation.

Foundation Settlement Signs and Solutions 28 Sep 2023 4:00 PM (last year)

Settlement is the movement your home experiences when the soil beneath it is unable to support its weight any longer. This is very common, and many homeowners think that it can't be fixed. Reading further, you will find out that it can. Foundation settlement happens when the soil around your home dries and shrinks, softens, or compresses over time due to natural causes like drought or heavy rainfall. Signs of settlement can include interior and exterior wall cracks or changes in the ways doors and windows operate. You may think that this can be repaired with a simple patch, but the truth is, nothing will change until the real underlying problem is addressed.

Foundation Settlement Signs and Solutions - Image 1Foundation Settlement Signs and Solutions - Image 2

You may also notice that some of the floors in your home are sloping or sagging, or gaps appear where the walls and floors meet. These problems can be caused by issues in the crawlspace, such as the columns being spaced too far apart, weakening floor joists and girders, and settling of the existing columns. Trying temporary measures to fix this won't solve the overall problem, as they will just reappear and worsen over time.

Foundation Settlement Signs and Solutions - Image 3

The soil around your home can put lots of pressure on the foundation walls. The amount of pressure depends on the soil type and the amount of moisture in it. If there is nothing supporting the foundation walls from the inside, they can crack, bow, and tip, and if left untreated, it can get worse and jeopardize the safety of your home. There is a light at the end of the tunnel, however, as the right solution can be determined for your specific situation.

Foundation Settlement Signs and Solutions - Image 4

There are several solutions that can repair a home's foundation, and knowing which to choose to fix the problem permanently is crucial. One option that works is steel push piers. These will permanently stabilize your home’s foundation, and in many cases, lift your home back towards its original position. These can also close cracks and improve the operation of windows and doors. This is the least risky solution when the soil conditions are unknown. There is minimal disturbance from installation; installing them is a quick process and will solve the problem once and for all.

Foundation Settlement Signs and Solutions - Image 5

Sagging floors in your home can be caused by structural issues in the crawlspace. Our solution that works is the SmartJack System. These are steel support systems that can permanently stabilize and level the floor joists and girders in a crawlspace. These add strength and stability to the existing columns and piers in the crawlspace. They are unaffected by moisture, as they will not rust, weaken, or be affected by mold. These will lift the floors above back toward their original position, reduce floor “bounce” caused by excessive joist spans, and solve the problem once and for all.

Foundation Settlement Signs and Solutions - Image 6

Different problems can occur depending on what type of foundation walls are in your home. Whichever the case, these can all be resolved with our specialized solutions. One solution that guarantees results is the PowerBrace System. This system is designed to permanently stabilize a home’s foundation. It will support the basement walls and straighten them over time. It will distribute the load evenly and eliminate the worry of damage caused by commonly seen wood floor joists. This system can be tightened over time and doesn't require any invasive drilling or digging. PowerBrace’s brackets are engineered to provide strong support to the joints and protect the floor system's durability.

Foundation Settlement Signs and Solutions - Image 7

Another option that works is our GeoLock Wall Anchor System. These are galvanized steel earth anchors that are embedded into the soil out and away from the foundation wall. Once installed, these will hold the walls in their current position and can be tightened to allow for improvement and straightening of the wall over time. These can be installed around obstacles on the wall such as pipes, sinks, or furniture. This is the best solution to straighten the wall over time, as it can fix severe problems and stabilize the foundation for good.

Foundation Settlement Signs and Solutions - Image 8

Identifying that you have foundation problems is the first step in getting them repaired. Once you have educated yourself on these various issues and how to solve them, the final step is to find the right company to help you get the problems fixed. Once these problems have been eliminated, your peace of mind will be restored knowing that your home is safe and protected. The Ultimate Air Quality Solution for the Healthiest and Cleanest Air in the Whole Home 20 Sep 2023 4:00 PM (last year)

By first drying the basement or crawlspace air, our SaniDry Sedona is a great start to make the whole house drier and healthier. This system is the most efficient high-performance dehumidifier, as it eliminates water vapor from the air using less electricity than an inefficient dehumidifier. Plus, the more the Sedona works, the less the whole home’s AC unit does, saving even more energy!
The Sedona is made to perform in cooler spaces in the home, such as basements and crawlspaces. Its powerful blower circulates the dry air throughout the area to dry the contents and building materials, eliminating any damp odors.
This system paired with our new Aspen Air Purifier provides outstanding results. While the Sedona keeps the air dry, Aspen uses three-stage custom-designed filters to remove even the smallest particles from the air in your living space. These filters allow maximum airflow and filtration effectiveness.
The first filter is an allergy filter. This removes common allergens such as mold, pet dander, and pollen. The second filter is an activated carbon filter. This filter contains more than 3 pounds of activated carbon to remove volatile organic compounds, such as chemicals, tobacco smoke, formaldehyde, and other odors. The third filter is a microparticle HEPA filter, which removes even the tiniest particles, such as smoke, bacteria, and viruses.

The Aspen Air works by drawing in air at the bottom, as it goes through the system, it exits out of the top and spreads around the space until it is drawn back into the Aspen. This cleans all the air in the space and will have a long-term positive impact on the entire house.
The Aspen Air Purifier offers a wide variety of benefits, including its ability to remove over 99.97% of particles from the air and its easy-to-use design. However, with the help of the SaniDry Sedona, a highly effective dehumidifier that keeps the relative humidity down all year round, you can achieve the absolute healthiest indoor air quality available. The combination of these systems offers a resolute way to get extraordinary results, allowing you to obtain the benefits of clean, healthy air!

How to Repair Problems Caused by "Street Creep" 22 Aug 2023 4:00 PM (last year)

One may think that a shifting driveway will stop over time, but that is not the case. The truth is the concrete surrounding a home can shift at any time and can continue if not treated properly. Concrete expands when it's hot out, and contracts when it gets cold. The widened joints that can form with concrete movement crush the expansion joint. Then, if not resealed properly, can be filled with sand or gravel, and when they expand again as they always do, they can end up pushing against other slabs and elongate them up to several inches.
There are several noticeable signs of street creep. Existing expansion joints between the driveway and garage, for example, can compress with movement and affect the garage slab. This movement can affect the foundation on either side of the garage, causing cracks, gaps, or separation to form.
These various problems that can arise due to street creep can be resolved and controlled. To repair a shifting or unstable foundation due to street creep, GeoLock Wall Anchors can be installed. These will permanently stabilize the foundation, straightening it to its original position and keeping it in place. Any cracks will also be closed so that no water can leak through. New expansion joints can also be installed, such as CompressionGuard. As long as this is properly maintained, it can handle the seasonal shifting of concrete.
These systems have many advantages, as they can be installed any time of year, and can be completed within a day or two. The combination of these systems is the most effective method for stabilizing foundations and can restore your home's value and your peace of mind all year long!

Features to the TripleSafe Sump Pump Lid 10 Apr 2023 4:00 PM (last year)

Many kinds of sump pumps come with lids, but are they really effective? Most lids have a small U-shaped opening that allows water that enters the sump to evaporate into the basement air. Also, it can spread a musty smell into the basement. Having a lid that keeps this moisture and odor inside the sump pump is important in keeping your basement fully dry all the time and smelling clean.

The TripleSafe Sump Pump features an airtight lid, that not only keeps moisture and odor from exiting it but prevents debris from falling into the sump as well. Debris such as toys or clothes can damage the pump motor or clog the discharge line to the point where water cannot get out of the basement. The lid has many features to it as well to ensure the health of the sump.
One feature of the TripleSafe lid is the WaterWatch Alarm. This will sound like a smoke detector if the water rises above the operating range of the pumps. It will warn you if there is a problem before any damage occurs. This system also features an airtight, radon-approved, floor drain. This will come in handy in case of a plumbing leak, as it will allow water to enter it. It will also prevent damp air from escaping out of it and into the basement. Additionally, the lid has a yellow grommet ring that will hold the electrical lines in place. It will also block evaporation from exiting the sump. The lid also features several drain ports that can be punched out so a hose can be inserted to drain water into the sump. This is handy for HVAC or dehumidifier hoses. Lastly, there are usually two discharge lines that the pumped water will exit out of the house.

These features of the TripleSafe lid will all play a role in ensuring your basement stays dry and clean for countless years to come!

Papa John's Cardinal Stadium Expansion 26 Feb 2021 3:22 AM (4 years ago)

Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium is an open-air football stadium which is home to the University of Louisville Cardinals. A $63 million expansion project was approved for the north end of the stadium which included the addition of 10,000 seats, bringing the total seating capacity to 65,000. Improvements would also be made to the Howard Schnellenberger Football Complex. The project was required to be completed in time for the September 2018 season home opener. Although drilled piers were planned for the new stadium seat foundations, another foundation solution was needed at four locations where access was restricted for the drilled pier equipment. Access was limited at these areas by underground utilities and close proximity to existing foundations. The test borings indicated a general subsurface profile consisting of 5 to 7 feet of clay fill underlain by stiff to very stiff clay to a depth of 15 feet where a medium dense sand was observed to a depth of 30 feet. Layers of medium dense sand and stiff clay were encountered below 30 feet to the top of bedrock at 60 feet.

Sanitary Sewer Pipeline Replacement 18 Nov 2020 3:54 AM (4 years ago)

An above-grade, 16-inch diameter, steel pipeline, used for treated water transport, was severely corroded along an approximate 910-foot long section. A new pipeline of similar diameter was, therefore, planned to replace the old, corroded pipeline. The construction of the new pipeline was complicated by the presence of a wetland/marsh with as much as 4 feet of standing water in one area. The construction would also have to be completed adjacent to the existing pipeline and overhead utility lines, which would limit equipment access. Three soil borings were completed along the project length, which identified soft clay with organics in the upper 5 to 7 feet, loose sand below the clay extending to a depth of about 12 feet, and then medium dense sand to the termination depths of the borings at 56 to 62 feet. A deep foundation system was required for the pipeline supports due to the poor bearing soils across the wetland. However, smaller installation equipment was preferred to minimize disturbance to the wetland and for access adjacent to the existing pipeline and overhead utilities.

Temporary Shoring Wall 3 Sep 2020 4:01 AM (4 years ago)

A three-story, 77,000 square-foot medical office building was planned for construction in St. Louis County, Missouri. The east area of the construction site sloped upward to the northeast to a parking lot located east of the east property line. An existing segmental block retaining wall, located along the southern half of the east property line, provided grade separation between the parking lot and the lower ground surface of the subject property. The east wall of the new medical building would be located about 10 feet from the adjacent property. The proposed excavation depths for the new foundations would require temporary shoring along an approximate 200-foot long section with estimated wall heights of about 7 feet at the south end to 12 feet at the north end. The shoring wall design would have to consider vehicle surcharge loading from the adjacent parking area, as well as surcharge loading from the segmental block retaining wall. Following construction of the medical building, engineered fill would be placed between the east foundation wall of the new medical building and the temporary shoring wall. Driven sheet piling or soldier pile and timber lagging walls were not preferred shoring options due to the vibration imparted to the soil during installation, potentially causing movement of the existing retaining wall and parking lot. Two soil borings were available for the shoring wall design which indicated that the retained soils were comprised of soft to stiff lean and fat clays extending down to limestone bedrock at depths of about 17 feet at the north end to about 10 feet at the south end.

Shawn P. of Girard, Illinois discovered water leaking into his basement through a crack in the wall. System Design Specialist Brenton K. visited Shawn’s home and inspected the basement. Upon inspection, he determined the wall crack was a result of a bowing wall. High hydrostatic pressure in the soil can cause walls to bow inward over time. Brenton designed a solution to support the wall and waterproof the basement.

Local Business Takes Action Against Radon 25 Oct 2017 2:08 AM (7 years ago)

COLLINSVILLE, Ill.— Thousands of people in Illinois and Missouri could be saved from radon-related lung cancer thanks to the just released National Radon Action Plan. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced the plan, called “A Strategy for Saving Lives,” November 10th. In a partnership between the EPA, the American Lung Association, and other agencies, the plan’s goal is to decrease lung cancer deaths by 3,200 people annually through the installation of 5 million radon reduction systems.

Woods Basement Systems is the local leader in radon, the cancer-causing gas that can seep into homes, businesses, and schools and is the leading cause of lung cancer among non-smokers. Woods Basement System’s radon experts can help determine if a building’s radon levels are above the EPAs recommended 4.0 pCi/L, and if so, can install an aesthetically pleasing and affordable radon mitigation system.

The National Radon Action Plan sets a new strategy to reduce radon exposure. That includes requiring radon testing and reduction systems as a standard practice in housing finance and insurance programs. It also encourages institutionalizing radon risk reduction through building code requirements. The plan is a collaborative effort between the EPA and other national organizations dedicated to lowering radon exposure, like the American Association of Radon Scientists and Technologists (AARST), of which Woods Basement Systems is a member.

Owner Rick Woods says the National Radon Action Plan will help save lives here and all over the United States. “Our radon associations have been working with the EPA for a few years to get this Radon Action Plan finalized,” said Woods. “Through our continued work to increase awareness about radon’s dangers and the Plan’s proposed required testing, I look forward to the day when we can eliminate lung cancer deaths caused by radon exposure.”

Kirkwood, Missouri YMCA Basement and Foundation Restored 8 Feb 2017 1:32 AM (8 years ago)

The Kirkwood, Missouri YMCA has both a crawl space and a basement beneath it. Unfortunately, both the crawl space and the basement were wet, musty, and moldy. Water leaked into the basement at the floor seam, but it also seeped in through the cracked foundation walls. Upon further inspection, Woods Basement Systems System Design Specialist John S. discovered that the foundation was bowing.

Due to increased hydrostatic pressure in the soil, the foundation walls began to bow inward and eventually crack. In addition to bowing, the foundation had also settled. The floors of the YMCA had begun to settle. John designed a solution to restore the foundation, crawl space and basement.

Illinois Department of Transportation chooses Woods Basement Systems: Hazardous highway restored with PolyLEVEL 3 Jun 2016 1:58 AM (8 years ago)

Woods Basement Systems is honored to work with the Illinois Department of Transportation to repair a hazardous highway. After careful consideration, PolyLEVEL was chosen as the fastest and most economical solution.

At the Interstate 64 and Illinois Highway 158 crossover in O’Fallon, Illinois, the concrete supporting the highway began to settle. The settling concrete caused cracking and made the roadway uneven and hazardous to drivers.

IDOT’s traditional method of repair, replacement would have cost over one hundred thousand dollars and taken several days to complete. Thanks to PolyLEVEL, the highway was restored within hours and the cost was a small fraction of the replacement cost. The PolyLEVEL injection holes are noninvasive and efficient. Only one lane of traffic was closed during the restoration. Within hours, both lanes were open.

                                         IDOT PolyLEVEL Injections

Because concrete and the load it bears is heavy, and drainage systems sometimes fail, allowing water to collect under the concrete, the soil beneath it begins to settle over time. Whether on roadways or walkways, this settling causes cracking and unevenness and can be dangerous. Lightweight, but strong, the dense PolyLEVEL foam is a long-lasting, waterproof solution to restore any walkway, driveway or highway to a safe passageway.

Think PolyLEVEL can’t get any better? It is also environmentally friendly! It does not interact with the soil to release chemicals, and because it’s waterproof, it will not wash away.

PolyLEVEL is trusted by many home and business owners in Central Illinois and Eastern Missouri. IDOT was thrilled with the results of PolyLEVEL, and could see it being used in future road repairs.

To learn more about PolyLEVEL and how it works, or to request a free estimate please contact us at 1-844-254-7212.

While the homeowners kept their crawlspace in good condition, the crawlspace was not renovated yet to keep out moisture. One of the most common problems in crawlspaces is moisture control, which, if not taken care of, can produce mold. The crawlspace vents can only do so much in regards to moisture control. This homeowner wants to prevent moisture from accumulating in the future, and have a solution that keeps the crawlspace dry. The challenge lies with calculating the perfect solution that is also permanent for this homeowner.

Woods Basement Systems Recognized on Remodeling 550 List 4 Nov 2013 1:35 AM (11 years ago)

Woods Basement Systems Recognized on Remodeling 550 List

Remodeling Magazine recently published its annual list of the nation’s largest home improvement contractors based on total revenue. Woods Basement Systems earned a spot on this year’s Remodeling 550 list, appearing at No. 57 out of 60 replacement contractors.

The list includes 550 businesses that are divided into four groups: full-service remodelers; replacement or specialty contractors; insurance restoration contractors; and franchise organizations specializing in some aspect of home renovation.

According to Remodeling Magazine, most replacement contractors focus on jobs that typically take between just four to six weeks to schedule and complete from the time a contract is signed.

"We’re pleased to be recognized as one of the top home improvement contractors in the nation, and our customers, co-workers, and community all benefit from our commitment to be the leader in our industry by providing every one of them with ‘WOW! Service,’" says Wayne Woods, owner of Woods Basement Systems.

Woods Basement Systems is one of the largest basement and foundation repair contractors serving Central and Southern Illinois and Southeastern Missouri, including the Greater St. Louis area. Since opening in 1986, they have helped over 36,000 customers with basement, crawl space and foundation issues.

Remodeling Magazine describes replacement contractors as "replacing mostly exterior home components such as siding or roofing," however, Woods Basement Systems installs solutions both inside and outside the home, including sump pumps, drainage systems, foundation piers, and radon mitigation systems.
