Plastic-eating fungi decompose these baby diapers in a just weeks 9:00 AM (4 minutes ago)

Most parents are shocked to learn how much plastic gets tossed out with every diaper change. It’s easy to overlook just how many everyday products, including those that seem soft and harmless, are packed with plastics that stick around for centuries. Even items as seemingly innocent as baby diapers can pile up in landfills, leaching microplastics into our soil and water.

Traditional diapers offer convenience, but their environmental cost is enormous. The plastic components can linger long after your child outgrows them, contributing to the growing crisis in waste management. Now, there’s a solution that speaks directly to eco-conscious parents: a baby diaper that not only protects your little one but is also designed to return to the earth, thanks to the surprising power of plastic-eating fungi.

Designer: Hiro Technologies

These innovative diapers look and feel as soft as any premium product, offering up to 12 hours of leak protection so babies and parents both get a good night’s sleep. They’re hypoallergenic, dermatologist-tested, and gentle even on sensitive skin. What sets them apart is a clever twist: after use, the diaper is placed inside a pouch containing special fungi, which then get to work.

The fungi used with these diapers are remarkable for their ability to break down common plastics like PET, PE, and PP. The secret lies in their enzymes, which have evolved to decompose lignin, the tough material in wood. Because the chemical structure of these plastics is similar, the same processes allow fungi to digest them, transforming what would have been waste into harmless organic matter.

Using this system is refreshingly simple. Once your baby’s diaper is ready for disposal, just place the designated fungi pouch inside it, roll the diaper up, throw it away, and let nature take over. There are no complicated steps or special trips to a facility, just a straightforward, at-home way to make a positive impact. Within a few weeks, the fungi begin to break down the diaper’s plastic layers, dramatically reducing the time it would normally spend in a landfill.

Parents who have long grappled with the guilt of disposable diaper waste can now feel reassured. By swapping out excess plastics for materials fungi love, these “mycodigestible” diapers offer a guilt-free alternative that actually helps nourish the earth. The result is a diaper that cares for your baby’s skin and the planet at the same time.

Rug becomes a resting place with Dune rug-chaise hybrid 8:20 AM (44 minutes ago)

I’m a fan of product designs that are both aesthetic and functional, even if I would probably not have the more eccentric (and expensive ones) in my space. I also like it when designers are able to turn things that have an original purpose into something that serves another purpose. Rugs have served as grounding elements in our homes, traditionally placed underfoot, defining areas, and adding warmth and texture. This new collaboration, however, dared to see if a rug could offer more and if it could rise up, quite literally, to become a place of rest and contemplation.

Designers: BUDDE and Nando Studio

The lines between furniture and textiles are delightfully blurred with DUNE, a groundbreaking collaboration between German design studio BUDDE and Cologne-based Nando Studio. Unveiled at Milan Design Week at Galleria Rossana Orlandi, this isn’t just a rug; it’s a sculptural piece that seamlessly transforms into a functional chaise lounge, inviting a fresh perspective on how we interact with our living spaces. Inspired by the fluid, windswept landscapes embraced by nomadic desert cultures, this chaise pays homage to the rug’s historical significance as both a gathering point and a place to recline.

This innovative design cleverly retains the essence of a traditional rug while incorporating a subtle yet ingenious structural element. Users have the freedom to appreciate it in its flat, familiar form as a rug. But when the mood for relaxation strikes, it can be effortlessly transformed into an inviting chaise lounge, offering a unique and comfortable space to unwind. This duality is at the heart of DUNE’s appeal. It embodies adaptability, seamlessly shifting between a foundational decorative element and a functional piece of furniture. This inherent flexibility redefines our expectations of a rug, suggesting new rituals for rest and relaxation within the home. Whether it serves as a statement centerpiece, a cozy spot for lounging, or an informal gathering space, DUNE encourages us to reconsider the boundaries of design and embrace innovative solutions that are both aesthetically pleasing and remarkably versatile.

The understated brilliance of this “sculpture” lies in its ability to be both innovative and inconspicuous. It doesn’t shout for attention but rather invites interaction, prompting us to think differently about the everyday objects that inhabit our lives. This rug-chaise hybrid is more than just a piece of furniture; it’s a conversation starter, a testament to the power of creative collaboration, and a beautiful reminder that design can continually redefine the familiar, offering us novel ways to live and rest within our spaces.

Framer Creator Micro 2 puts a very analog spin on the micro keyboard design 7:20 AM (last hour)

Keyboards have always been the trusty sidekick for designers, but as creative software becomes more complex by the day, even the most seasoned creators find themselves fumbling with tricky shortcuts. With dozens of keyboard combinations to remember, often changing from one program to another, it’s no wonder the humble keyboard is starting to feel a little overwhelmed. Designers crave something more intuitive, a tool that keeps up with inspiration rather than slowing it down.

Micro keyboards and customizable control decks have stepped in to ease this pain, giving creators dedicated buttons for frequent actions. While most of these devices sport digital displays on every key, letting you swap icons and functions with a click, the Framer Creator Micro 2 takes a refreshingly analog detour. Instead of relying on screens, it brings back the tactile satisfaction of physical keycaps, keeping things charmingly straightforward.

Designer: Work Louder x Framer

What really makes the Framer Creator Micro 2 stand out is its purposeful simplicity. Designed with Framer users in mind, this pint-sized peripheral maps each key to a specific action in the visual website builder. Whether it’s adding a new text layer, pasting effects, searching elements, or publishing your site, having a dedicated button for each task is a real game-changer for workflow.

Rather than changing digital displays for new shortcuts, users simply swap out keycaps and physically rearrange them. This hands-on approach is not just retro fun but also helps your fingers remember where each action lives, making repetitive tasks feel more natural. As your favorite Framer actions evolve, so does your keyboard, ensuring your muscle memory is working at peak efficiency.

Of course, customization doesn’t stop at the keys. The Framer Creator Micro 2 also offers a tactile knob for quick scrolling or adjustments and a thumb slide joystick for even more control. Give the joystick a push and up pops a radial menu, giving you eight extra customizable actions to play with. This clever combination means you get the best of compact design and functional depth without a cluttered workspace.

For designers, the Framer Creator Micro 2 is a delightful fusion of nostalgia and modern utility. It ditches the trends of flashy screens in favor of something that feels personal and tactile. With a customizable layout, satisfying physical keys, and helpful extras like the dial and joystick, it’s a fresh take on boosting productivity. Ultimately, it invites creators to interact with their work in a hands-on, playful way, making every project feel just a little more engaging.

YouTuber builds wrist-mounted launcher that shoots 5 CDs per second at 33 mph 6:20 AM (2 hours ago)

CDs were, by far, the most dominant audio format during the late 1990s and the early 2000s, surpassing cassette tapes. Today, CDs hold little functional significance. So, what do you do with the CDs you have lying at home from your younger days? If you’re Aaed Musa, you could build yourself a wrist-mounted CD launcher and shoot some fruits and veggies at a staggering 33 mph. Well, you don’t want an animal or human in harm’s way!

Musa is not the first to try a CD launcher. Since they have become obsolete, CDs have been used to create furniture and blasted away in launchers such as the Discos Locos in Far Cry 6. Inspired by the Discos Locos and its version by Hacksmith, Musa has designed his own – but instead of a gun-like design, he has put the contraption on the wrist to shoot CDs out of his powerful, wearable CD launcher.

Designer: Aaed Musa

Creating a unique spin on otherwise tried designs would pose design challenges. This, Musa realized the hard way during the creation of this contraption. The entire physics and maths that’s gone into the building process has been meticulously detailed by Musa in the YouTube video, but if that’s not your thing, just read on to basically understand what he has achieved and how it is a lethal tool to behead vegetables and fruits in the garden for fun. What other practical purposes can a wearable CD shooter have for you to create, if you happen to follow Musa and build one for yourself?

Before that, let’s see how he has come about it. Aaed Musa got a box of mini-CDs (slightly smaller in size than traditionally used for audio) and he instantly thought of making a wrist-mounted launcher for them. He started out by designing a flywheel, which he refers to as the heart of the CD launcher. A flywheel spinning at really high speed allows a projectile to slide onto its path to be launched with great force. The flywheel is powered by a motor that can spin at up to 40,000 RPM. After perfecting the throw, Musa focused on increasing the speed at which the CD was launched. For this, he added a second flywheel, which scaled up the ejection speed to 33 mph.

An interesting thing that Musa has done is, he has angled flywheels in such a way that when launched, the CDs spin to give them the gyroscopic stability to hit the target with great precision. This wrist-mounted CD shooter can fire 5 discs per second for some serious fun. The mount, which holds the basic shooting mechanism, was initially 3D printed from plastic, which didn’t appear too cool, so the final variant is made using CNC-machined metal. Cool, isn’t it?

Muji elevates common paper bag by adding washi paper into the mix 5:20 AM (3 hours ago)

Every time I try to fix my stuff, I see all the tote bags and cute paper bags that I have accumulated over the years and I think to myself, “I have too many”. But then I’ll come across a nice-looking bag and I can’t help myself. These aren’t luxury or designer bags, but those that speak to me (and speak to my wallet if I can afford it) and the design plays a huge part in it. So when I came across this new special Muji bag, I knew I had to have this (or I’ll have to wait if and when it gets to my shores).

Designer: Muji Labo

Muji is one of those no-frills brands that I go to when I want a minimalist look, whether it’s stationery, houseware, and yes, their cute tote bags. Their newest product is reinventing the common paper bag. Their Paper-Like Tote Bag is as its name says, a tote bag that actually looks like a paper bag. But the material used is what makes it stand out: high density non woven polyethelene mixed with the very famous Japanese washi paper. This type of paper is traditionally made from the fibers of the gampi tree, mistumata shrub, or mulberry. This choice of material elevates the simple paper bag to a new level of tactile and visual appeal.

Since it’s made to look like a paper bag, it seems delicate but in fact, it’s deceptively simple and sturdy. Washi has long been a favorite because of its strength, unique texture and durability and it brings those qualities to the tote bag. It makes it water-resistant, lightweight, and tear-resistant. The natural irregularities of the material will also eventually make the bag unique as it will soften and crease over use, bringing its own character to your “things carrier” aka bag. It’s available in white, gray, and black colors. It is of course highly functional but is also refined enough that you can use it as an accent to your outfit.

Muji is not simply using washi for its inherent qualities. They are also tapping into the rich cultural heritage associated with this traditional craft. Washi has been used in Japan for centuries for a variety of purposes, from writing and painting to creating delicate screens and lanterns. By utilizing this material for their paper bags, MUJI is subtly connecting the everyday act of shopping with Japan’s artistic traditions. The promise of a bag that is both sturdy and refined, practical yet imbued with the delicate beauty of washi, is exactly the kind of object that speaks to that collector’s instinct. And collect it, I will, indeed.

Bird-Like Lamp Design Combines Artful Lighting with Playful Character 2:07 AM (6 hours ago)

A fresh twist on functional design, the Tiki lamp brings a lively sense of whimsy into any interior space. Instantly recognizable with its bird-like silhouette, Tiki perches elegantly, inviting both admiration and interaction. For lamp collectors, designers, and anyone with an appreciation for playful details, it’s a delightful addition that easily becomes a talking point in the room.

What truly makes Tiki stand out is its approach to arrangement. Rather than sitting alone, these lamps are meant to be clustered together, forming flocks that animate tables, shelves, or any chosen setting. Each bird-shaped lamp seems to communicate with the others, bringing a sense of movement and connection. This flocking concept encourages creativity, letting you design your own illuminated landscape with personality and charm.

Designer: Nao Tamura

The essence of Tiki lies in its expertly carved form. Using robotic techniques, each lamp is sculpted from milky-white acrylic, creating a flawless, translucent body that feels both delicate and futuristic. The shade is perfectly balanced above a geometric metal base, making for a dynamic visual pairing. This careful meeting of materials and textures adds to the overall sense of refinement while still keeping things lighthearted.

The lamp uses a built-in, rechargeable LED, powered by a custom battery that ensures lasting brightness. Charging is a breeze thanks to the magnetic base, which easily connects with a USB-C cable; no fiddling with cords or awkward plugs. These practical upgrades mean you can move your Tiki lamp anywhere: bedside, coffee table, or workspace, without worrying about wires.

The interactive experience is where Tiki truly shines. Adjusting the brightness is as simple as rotating the bird’s body on top of its perch, making the act of lighting up a space playful and intuitive. The motion is smooth and invites touch, transforming a mundane action into a small daily pleasure. This tactile control not only adds charm but also makes Tiki accessible to a variety of users.

Tiki’s updated palette introduces a fresh batch of colors that suit any taste, from matte warm white and striking blue to gentle olive green, alongside the classic gloss-black finish. These shades accentuate the sculptural curves and ensure the lamp looks just as good as a solo piece as it does in a flock.

Tiny, winged robot jumps instead of flying 12:45 AM (8 hours ago)

What we know about robots and how they are created is constantly evolving as we see scientists draw inspiration from the natural world to create innovative and efficient machines. The latest marvel to emerge from this fascinating intersection is a small, agile robot that forgoes traditional locomotion in favor of a wing-assisted hopping mechanism. Developed by a collaborative team of scientists from MIT, the University of Hong Kong, and the City University of Hong Kong, this tiny bot is demonstrating a unique approach to movement.

Designer: MIT

This remarkable creation, standing just over 5 centimeters tall and weighing less than a single gram, utilizes a vertically oriented, spring-loaded carbon fiber rod as its primary means of propulsion. Functioning like a miniature pogo stick, this leg compresses upon impact with the ground, storing energy that is then released to launch the robot into the air. However, what truly sets this robot apart is its integration of four insect-inspired flapping wings, powered by electrically activated artificial muscles. These wings aren’t designed for sustained flight in the traditional sense. Instead, they play a crucial role in augmenting the robot’s leaps, providing additional lift and enabling it to achieve impressive heights of up to 20 centimeters. Furthermore, these wing movements contribute to its lateral agility, allowing it to traverse distances of up to 30 centimeters per second.

This novel approach offers a potential advantage in terms of energy efficiency compared to traditional flying robots. By primarily relying on the spring-loaded leg for vertical movement and utilizing the wings for assistance and stability, the robot can potentially operate for longer durations on a limited power supply. Currently, this groundbreaking robot is tethered to an external power source and relies on an external motion-tracking system for guidance. This suggests that it is still in the experimental phase, with future development likely focused on miniaturizing the power source and integrating onboard control systems for autonomous operation. The concept of combining hopping and wing assistance is not entirely new in the realm of bio-inspired robotics. Researchers have previously explored similar ideas, such as the “Hopcopter” developed by the City University of Hong Kong and The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, which combined a commercially available quadcopter with a spring-loaded hopping leg for efficient ground traversal. Similarly, researchers at Stanford University developed a “jumpglider” that used a spring for takeoff and pivoting wings for gliding, showcasing the potential of combining different modes of locomotion.

This latest winged hopping robot represents another significant step forward in this field. Its lightweight design and impressive agility open up possibilities for various applications, such as exploration in confined spaces, environmental monitoring, or even search and rescue operations in complex terrains where traditional robots might struggle. As research progresses and the technology matures, we can anticipate seeing more robots that cleverly combine different forms of movement to achieve greater efficiency and versatility, taking inspiration from the incredible adaptability found in the natural world. This little hopping robot with wings might just be the herald of a new era in robotic locomotion.

This Clever Minimalist Pull-Up Bar Doubles as a Stylish Clothes Rack 21 Apr 4:30 PM (16 hours ago)

Workout gear often starts with ambition and ends in dust. That pull-up bar you bought with every intention of sculpting your upper body? It’s now holding three jackets, a tote bag, and last week’s laundry. Instead of ignoring this all-too-common evolution, RAK embraces it by design.

RAK isn’t trying to hide the fact that home gym gear often becomes a glorified hanger. Instead, it leans into the reality and transforms it into a strength. This hybrid training system functions as both a pull-up bar and clothing rack, designed to support your workouts and your wardrobe.

Designer: Hyunbin Seo and Samsung Design Membership

Need to exercise? Just slide the clothes aside. When you’re done, shift them back into place. No guilt, no clutter – just a product that moves with your rhythm.

Most exercise equipment announces its presence with bulky frames and an aggressive design language. RAK takes a different path. Its form is minimal, its silhouette clean. The width is calculated for maximum workout efficiency without interrupting your room’s flow.

When it’s not in use, it fades naturally into your space, like it belongs there.

Hidden at the core of RAK is a clever motion sensor that quietly counts your reps. No apps, no wearables, no setup. It measures movement directly from the equipment itself, delivering accuracy that wrist-based trackers often miss. It’s smart without being needy.

Whether you’re perfecting your pull-up form or checking your posture, RAK adapts to your needs. Its central module allows attachments, dip bars, mirrors, and more, giving you full control over how it functions and how it looks. It’s not just about exercise; it’s about creating a space that reflects you.

RAK takes the pain out of setup. With a reduced number of parts and a straightforward joining system, it’s ready to go in no time. But don’t let the simplicity fool you, this thing is solid. Thanks to a steel plate at its base, RAK remains steady even under pressure.

Performance tests showed that it could handle 150kg, with only 14mm of deformation and a safety factor of 6.14, well beyond industry norms. Translation: it’s more than strong enough to support real workouts, day after day.

RAK didn’t start as a concept, it started as a problem. The creator, tired of clunky home gear, measured their own equipment, studied how clothes naturally hung on it, and reverse-engineered a better solution. That practical origin lives on in every design decision, from dimensions to material choice.

Forget oversized packages filled with endless bolts. RAK arrives in a single, sleek box, thoughtfully packed for both safety and style. The branding and unboxing experience align with the product’s mission: to reimagine fitness as something that fits into your life, not the other way around. It respects your space, adapts to your habits, and supports your goals, without trying to take over your home. Whether you’re mid-routine or mid-laundry day, it’s ready. One product, endless possibilities.
